Nets' Egor Demin is determined to show his shooting ability in the NBA
Brooklyn Nets guard Egor Demin came into the 2025 NBA Draft with the reputation of being a questionable shooter based off his freshman season at BYU. The main reason that Brooklyn selected Demin with the eighth overall pick in the Draft is his size and versatility, but the Russian is determined to show off his shooting ability at the NBA level in the 2025-26 season. "(It) feels good. Obviously coming here (Las Vegas), the shooting was my biggest question," Demin said during his NBA TV interview during the Las Vegas Summer League. Demin played three games in Las Vegas and averaged 11.3 points, 4.3 rebounds, and 1.3 assists per game while shooting 40.7% from the field and 43.5% from behind the three-point line. The three-point accuracy is something Demin's proud of. "Not my question, right?," Demin continued. "The question of people about me, it's exciting time to really prove it. Prove that I can really shoot because obviously I spent a lot of time on the court practicing before getting in the draft, right? In the workouts, and really focusing on how can I be efficient from every type of shots." Demin, 19, likely dulled the noise surrounding his outside shooting for the time being, but he will still have to show that he can do it while probably being the starting point guard next season. Demin is part of the Brooklyn 2025 Draft class where all of the players have to prove that their shooting will eventually catch up to the rest of their game, at least to the point where head coach Jordi Fernandez can trust them to take those shots in the regular season. Demin got the chance to show what he looks like against the kind of NBA competition that is typical for the summer league, but the NBA when the games count is a different animal. To that point, Demin showed some confidence in taking the shots that he will probably get based on the attention that players like Michael Porter Jr. and Cam Thomas (if he re-signs) will draw on a nightly basis.

Celtics announce roster cut in wake of new acquisiton
The Celtics announced they waived two-way player Miles Norris on Sunday. Norris, a 25-year-old forward they signed in March, was entering his second season with the team. The announcement came just a few days after undrafted rookie RJ Luis was traded to the Celtics from the Utah Jazz for Georges Niang and two second-round picks. Luis was already on a two-way contract with the Jazz, so it appeared likely that either Norris or Luis would be waived to clear space to sign rookie Amari Williams. The 25-year-old Norris averaged 14.5 points and 6.3 rebounds for the Maine Celtics last year and appeared in three regular-season games with the Celtics. But, he had a lackluster showing at Summer League, averaging 9.3 points on 36.8% shooting, including 25% from three. The Celtics now have Max Shulga and RJ Luis both under contract as two-way players. Shulga signed his two-way contract late last month, after a strong career at VCU. Luis, meanwhile, averaged 18.2 points and 7.2 rebounds per game as St. John's last season. Amari Williams, who was drafted by the Celtics with the 46th overall pick, will presumably be the third two-way player, though he has not officially signed with the team.

Thunder rookie Nikola Topić helps Serbia to win in EuroBasket exhibition game
Oklahoma City Thunder guard Nikola Topić started for the Serbian national team on his 20th birthday, helping the group to an exhibition win ahead of EuroBasket 2025. Topić recorded two points, seven assists and six rebounds in the 122-55 victory over Cyprus at the Spyros Kyprianou Arena in Limassol on Sunday. He made his only field goal attempt in 20 minutes of work as Serbia improved to 4-0 in its run ahead of the tournament. The 6-foot-6 guard played a featured role as Nikola Jokić, Bogdan Bogdanović and Vasilije Micić sat on the second game of a back-to-back set after defeating Greece on Saturday. He looked the part, setting up his teammates and running the offense efficiently. Topić was the 12th pick in the 2024 NBA draft after playing with Crvena zvezda in the ABA League. He was sidelined all of last season after undergoing surgery to repair a torn left ACL suffered while playing in the ABA League Finals on May 13, 2024. The Serbian debuted in the Salt Lake City Summer League last month, averaging 10.7 points, 4.3 assists, three rebounds and two steals in three appearances. He posted a similar average in three games in Las Vegas: 11 points, 7.3 assists, 3.3 rebounds and 1.7 steals. Topić was among the players named to Serbia's preliminary roster and is looking to make the final cut for the first time with the senior team. He and the team have three additional tune-up games before beginning the 42nd edition of the European tournament on Aug. 27.
