Three people killed after small boat capsized off San Diego coast
Vessels and helicopters with the US Coast Guard were searching for the missing while the four injured were sent to hospitals, authorities said. Coast Guard officials said they did not know where the 12ft (3.7-meter) boat was coming from before it flipped.
Hikers and others at Torrey Pines state beach reported seeing a boat capsize near the shore at about 6.30am, said Lt Nick Backouris of the San Diego sheriff's department.
'A doctor hiking nearby called in and said: 'I see people doing CPR on the beach, I'm running that way,'' Backouris said.
Pangas are open boats designed for fishing but commonly used by smugglers.
In 2023, eight people were killed when two migrant smuggling boats approached a San Diego beach amid heavy fog. One boat capsized in the surf, marking one of the deadliest human smuggling operations ever in the US.

Man airlifted to hospital after falling into tank on Peterhead Harbour vessel
A man has been rushed to hospital after falling whilst aboard a vessel at Peterhead Harbour. The incident occurred about 6am on Wednesday, July 23, while the ship was moored at Asco on the South Base of the harbour. A man sustained injuries after falling into a non-hazardous tank aboard a ship at around 5.50am this morning. Emergency services, including police, fire, ambulance and air ambulance, were all deployed to the scene. All operations at the south base of the port have been paused amid the investigations. He was reportedly rescued from the water by members of the Coastguard and the Scottish Fire and Rescue Service, who then passed him into the care of the ambulance service. It is understood the boat involved is the Falcon Tide. The vessel is registered in Norway and is currently docked in the north-east town. The man was transported via air ambulance to hospital in Aberdeen. An ambulance spokesperson said: 'We received a call at 6.03am to attend an incident at Peterhead Harbour, Peterhead. 'We dispatched one ambulance, two special operations response teams and an air ambulance with trauma team to the scene. 'We transported one patient by air ambulance to Aberdeen Royal Infirmary.' A police spokesperson said: 'Around 7am on Wednesday, July 23, we were made aware of a man having been injured after falling from scaffolding onboard a ship in the Burnhaven area of Peterhead. 'The 41-year-old was taken by air ambulance to Aberdeen Royal Infirmary. 'The Health and Safety Executive has been made aware and enquiries are ongoing.' A spokesperson for Asco said: 'The safety of our colleagues continues to be a top priority. As a precaution, all operations at South Base have been temporarily stopped. 'A thorough investigation into the incident is underway. Asco is co-ordinating with the relevant authorities and stakeholders.' A spokesperson for Peterhead Port Authority added: 'We are aware of an incident that occurred this morning aboard a vessel moored at the South Base, in which a contractor sustained an injury. 'We are actively supporting the base and vessel operator and the relevant authorities as they carry out their investigation. 'Our thoughts are with the injured person and we wish them a full and speedy recovery.'

Police seek help to identify mystery body found in river Deben
Police believe they have identified the body of a man found in a river - but are appealing for more information. Suffolk Police said that a body of man aged around 35, with fair hair and a ginger beard, was recovered from the River Deben in Suffolk. Officers were contacted at 7.45am on Sunday by the Coastguard, who brought the body of an adult male ashore at Waldringfield at 8.45am. Death was confirmed officially by ambulance service staff. Police now want to hear from anyone who saw a man riding a black Cube bicycle and wearing a khaki shirt and baseball cap on Saturday August 16 or early on Sunday August 17. A possible sighting of the man was made on Saturday at 3.45pm near the Seven Hills roundabout at Levington. Officers want to locate the man's bike and clothes and believe they could be in the Waldringfield area. The cause of death is unknown but at this stage is not believed to be suspicious. The man's body was taken to the mortuary at Ipswich Hospital. Anyone with information should contact Suffolk Police or call 101, quoting the reference 37/46516/25.

A man's body has been recovered from a river by the Police said the man was pulled out of the River Deben at Waldringfield, near Woodbridge, at 08:45 BST on force said he was about 35 and had fair hair and a beard.
