Bengaluru (Karnataka) [India], August 21: izmomicro, a specialized division of izmo Ltd., today announced a major milestone in silicon photonics packaging, underscoring its role as a pioneer in India's semiconductor ecosystem and advancing the country's position in the global race toward next-generation data and AI infrastructure.
izmomicro has developed a high-density silicon photonics packaging platform capable of supporting 32-channel fiber input and output with an industry-leading insertion loss of less than 2 dB. Achieving this level of density is one of the greatest challenges in the field, demanding nanometer-scale optical alignment, advanced assembly processes, and seamless integration of electronics. The module also incorporates 32 DC I/Os, 4 RF I/Os, and high-speed RF performance up to 70 GHz, setting a new benchmark for the integration of photonic and electronic systems.
This achievement is the result of izmomicro's continuing investment in cutting-edge R & D and years of expertise in advanced semiconductor packaging. By solving the density and precision challenges in silicon photonics, izmomicro has addressed a critical bottleneck for the industry and positioned itself among a select group of companies worldwide capable of delivering this capability.
The ability to deliver such high-density integration with ultra-low signal loss is central to the evolution of AI, cloud computing, and telecommunications. As traditional copper interconnects approach their physical limits, silicon photonics has emerged as the enabling technology for multi-terabit optical communication. By breaking through packaging constraints, izmomicro is helping unlock the scalability and efficiency required for hyperscale data centers, AI clusters, and next-generation 5G/6G networks.
"Achieving this level of fiber density with ultra-low insertion loss is a defining moment for izmomicro," said Dinanath Soni, Executive Director of izmomicro. "Only a handful of companies worldwide have demonstrated this capability, and we are proud to be the first in India. This breakthrough validates our years of R & D in precision packaging and positions us as a critical partner for the global silicon photonics industry. As AI and data-driven applications demand ever-higher performance, our innovation will help power the infrastructure of the future."
The global silicon photonics market, valued at USD 2.65 billion in 2025, is projected to grow to over USD 9 billion by 2030, at a compound annual growth rate exceeding 25%. Much of this growth will be driven by the need for faster, more energy-efficient data transmission in cloud platforms, AI workloads, and telecommunications networks. With its breakthrough in packaging density, izmomicro is positioned to play a key role in this transformation.

US home sales rose in July as mortgage rates eased, home prices grew more slowly

Agency: PTI Last Updated: Washington, Aug 21 (AP) Sales of previously occupied US homes rose in July as homebuyers were encouraged by a modest pullback in mortgage rates, slowing home price growth and the most properties on the market in over five years. Existing home sales rose 2 per cent last month from June to a seasonally adjusted annual rate of 4.01 million units, the National Association of Realtors (NAR) said Thursday. Sales edged up 0.8 per cent compared with July last year. The latest sales figure topped the 3.92 million pace economists were expecting, according to FactSet. Home prices rose on an annual basis for the 25th consecutive month, although the rate of growth continued to slow. The national median sales price inched up just 0.2 per cent in July from a year earlier to USD 4,22,400. That was the smallest annual increase since June 2023. Even so, the median home sales price last month is the highest for any previous July, based on data going back to 1999. 'The ever-so-slight improvement in housing affordability is inching up home sales," said Lawrence Yun, NAR's chief economist. 'Wage growth is now comfortably outpacing home price growth, and buyers have more choices." The US housing market has been in a sales slump since 2022, when mortgage rates began climbing from historic lows. Sales of previously occupied US homes sank last year to their lowest level in nearly 30 years. This year's spring homebuying season, which is traditionally the busiest period of the year for the housing market, was a bust as stubbornly high mortgage rates put off many prospective homebuyers. First-time homebuyers, who don't have home equity gains to put toward a new home purchase, accounted for 28 per cent of homes sales last month, down from 30 per cent in June, NAR said. Historically, they made up 40 per cent of home sales. The average rate on a 30-year mortgage has remained elevated this year, although last week it dropped to a 10-month low of 6.58 per cent. Homes purchased last month likely went under contract in May and June, when the average rate ranged from 6.76 per cent to 6.89 per cent. Mortgage rates eased in July, dropping briefly to 6.67 per cent. As home sales have slowed, the number of unsold homes on the market has been rising. There were 1.55 million unsold homes at the end of last month, up 0.6 per cent from June and 15.7 per cent from July last year, NAR said. That's the most homes on the market since May 2020, early on in the COVID-19 pandemic. Still, the inventory remains well below the roughly 2 million homes for sale that was typical before the pandemic. July's month-end inventory translates to a 4.6-month supply at the current sales pace, down from a 4.7-month supply at the end of June and up from 4 months in July last year. Traditionally, a 5- to 6-month supply is considered a balanced market between buyers and sellers. Homes are also taking longer to sell. Properties typically remained on the market for 28 days last month before selling, up from 24 days in July last year, NAR said. Home shoppers who can afford to buy at current mortgage rates or pay in cash are likely to benefit from the slower growth in prices and increased supply of properties on the market. It's not uncommon now for sellers, especially those in Southern and Western markets, to lower their asking price and offer incentives such as money for closing costs or repairs in order to sweeten the deal, real estate agents say. In July, some 20.6 per cent of homes listed for sale had their price reduced, according to That's down slightly from June. 'One can say that things are a little better today as a buyer, compared to say just a couple of years ago," Yun said. Flipkart and China businesses lift Walmarts sales numbers in Q2 of FY26

New Delhi, Aug 21 (PTI) US-based retail giant Walmart on Thursday reported a 10 per cent growth in its international business in the second quarter of FY26 in constant currency terms, helped by Indian e-commerce arm Flipkart along with the China market and Walmex. Walmart International, which operates in 18 countries outside the US, including India, had a 'growth in net sales led by China, Walmex, and Flipkart", according to the earnings statement from the Bentonville-headquartered firm. Moreover, transaction counts and unit volumes were up across markets of Walmart International, it added. Walmex is the Mexican and Central American division of Walmart. Walmart, which follows February-January financial year, reported a USD 32.7 billion in sales from its international business, registering a growth of 10.5 per cent on constant currency terms. Its net sales were at USD 31.2 million, up 5.5 per cent. Walmart's overall revenue was at USD 177.4 billion, up 4.8 per cent year on year, and 5.6 per cent higher in constant currency terms. However, the operating income of Walmart International declined 9.8 per cent to USD 1.2 billion, 'affected by strategic growth investments in India, Canada and Mexico", it said. Walmart had acquired a 77 per cent controlling stake in Flipkart in 2018 in a USD 16-billion deal. Subsequently, it has raised its shareholding and now owns over 80 per cent stake in the Bengaluru-headquartered e-commerce major.
