An Honest Review of Amanyara, the Luxe Hotel in Turks and Caicos

An Honest Review of Amanyara, the Luxe Hotel in Turks and Caicos

Cosmopolitana day ago

As a vacation enthusiast and travel editor, visiting an Aman property has always been at the top of my bucket list. The hotel group's ultra-luxury resorts have come across my desk—and IG feed—many times over the years, from Amangiri in Utah (a Kardashian-favorite getaway) to Amanpuri in Thailand (I drool every time I see it). So when I was invited to the Turks and Caicos to visit Amanyara, the brand's beachy retreat within Providenciales' North West Point Marine National Park, I nearly passed away. Me? Posting up in the same hotel where Beyoncé celebrated her 43rd birthday? I'd have swum there if I had to.
Luckily, I didn't have to—I jetted off to the always-summery island this past December, and quickly realized I was going to be treated like an A+ lister for my entire three-night stay. Amanyara is, without a doubt, the most luxurious hotel I've ever stayed at (and, again, I'm a travel editor, so that's saying a lot), and I'm ready to tell you all about the food, rooms, amenities, and more below. Read on for my full review of Amanyara, and apologies in advance for all the poetic I'm about to wax.
BOOK A STAY
THE FIRST IMPRESSIONS
This was my first time in the Turks and Caicos, but I'd heard so many amazing things about the island nation over the years, from both colleagues and Drake songs, that I found myself dreaming about the white sand beaches for the entire four-ish hour flight from NYC. When we landed, a driver from the resort was there to pick me up, and the good vibes started immediately with cold drinks and Caribbean tunes welcoming me into the van. After less than a 30-minute drive, we arrived at Amanyara, and that's when things really started feeling...Beyoncé-worthy.
I quickly learned that I was going to be staying in a villa—but not just, like, a room within a building. I was going to have an entire apartment to myself within Amanyara's Six-Bedroom Beach Sala Villa, aka a 13,640-square-foot retreat on the resort grounds, complete with six standalone apartments (perfect for a group of up to 12, but I was there with four other media members), a central pavilion with a dining room and hangout area, an infinity pool, plenty of lounge spaces, an outdoor dining area, and a private slice of beachfront. Our two villa "hosts"—who acted like private, golf-cart-wielding butlers throughout our stay—greeted me upon arrival and let me know that the private chef (because yes, each group is also assigned a chef, who can make you whatever, whenever) had prepared fresh spring rolls and mocktails to snack and sip on. I cannot get used to this, I remember telling myself in that moment.
THE ROOMS
"Room" is definitely an understatement here, but inside my apartment was a plush king-sized bed, a desk with ready-to-send postcards, a soaking tub with bath salts, a fridge full of complimentary drinks, so many closets I actually lost count, a bathroom larger than my NYC apartment (including an indoor/outdoor shower that changed my life), and a private outdoor space complete with lounge chairs and a yoga stage.
I was in the apartment closest to the pool, so every morning I would hit a button to open the shades, and the floor-to-ceiling windows would reveal the sparkling water just outside. I always headed out to sun by the pool, book in hand, before getting ready each day. I asked one of the hosts for a cappuccino and orange juice the first morning, and every morning after that, I was greeted with a glass of both as soon as I plopped my butt down on a lounger. The juice was so fresh, it tasted like the host had picked an orange off a tree and hand-squeezed it minutes earlier, just FYI.
THE AMENITIES
In addition to taking service very, very seriously (like actually, I think the staff would have flown to another country to get something I asked for), Amanyara is also huge on prioritizing wellness. With your booking, you get access to four clay tennis and pickleball courts (and a very kind instructor), a volleyball court, a soccer field, a boxing studio, a Pilates studio, and a wellness concierge who you can work with even before your stay. Our group took a private boxing class on our second day, and the instructor, Aga, kicked our butts in the best way possible.
If sports are your preferred style of self-care, you'll want to check out Amanyara's Legends Program, in which award-winning professional athletes from across the world come to the hotel to teach clinics in their field. Previous visiting icons have included tennis player Maria Sharapova, basketball player Kevin Love, football player Demarcus Lawrence, and more.
On the flip side, if relaxing hard is your idea of wellness (same), you'll want to pop over to the spa, where there are four treatment rooms, a tranquil pool, and an outdoor yoga space. There are a variety of island-inspired spa treatments to choose from (including baths, facials, wraps, and massages), as well as rotating classes and treatments depending on which visiting specialists are in residence when you're in town. Holistic therapist Irene Maranon Villa was visiting during our stay, and she taught us an Ai Chi class—which is basically aquatic Tai Chi— in the spa pool. I had no idea what that was when I saw it on our itinerary, but I wound up loving the slow and thoughtful practice.
THE FOOD AND BEV
Food is also a form of wellness, and, naturally, Amanyara excelled in this area as well. Of course, we had our private chef on call to make us anything our hearts desired (and he did whip up breakfast every morning), but we also had access to The Restaurant, an Asian-inspired fine dining spot, The Beach Club, which offered Mediterranean and American fare down by the ocean, and The Bar, where you can grab light bites along with some seriously delicious drinks. We tested out all three, and I highly recommend getting the chicken fried rice and dumplings from The Restaurant, and the gazpacho, mortadella pizza, and tzatziki from The Beach Club.
I think my favorite meal, however, was the one the hosts set up for us on our last night, in which they arranged a candlelit table by the pool in our villa. The chef whipped up a multi-course, family-style meal comprised of their best Thai dishes. It was such a nice way to close out an incredible trip, and a great way to make use of the privacy afforded by the villa.
THE BOTTOM LINE
A stay at Amanyara doesn't come cheap—I kept texting my fiancé how sad I was that he wasn't there with me, because it's definitely out of our regular vacation price range—but oh my god, if you can afford it...GO. I've been wined and dined at dozens of hotels across the world, but there's something about Amanyara that's just special. The service is top-notch without being stuffy, the food is out of this world without feeling over the top, the design is peak luxury while still being minimalistic, and I felt like the best version of myself throughout my stay.
I've finally checked an Aman stay off my bucket list, but now I just...have a bigger bucket list. Because now I've decided I have to see every other Aman there is out there in the world. Wish me luck!

Megyn Kelly slams Beyoncé for including footage of her in 'Cowboy Carter' tour visuals: 'She could play the victim'

Megyn Kelly is having a meltdown over her unexpected inclusion in Beyoncé's Cowboy Carter Tour. The political commentator responded to the Grammy-winning artist splicing footage of one of her on-air interviews into the visuals for the musician's ongoing tour, which blurred Kelly's face and also featured the brief inclusion of other media clips containing commentary about her foray into the country genre. Though Kelly's face is not explicitly recognizable, the former Fox News host slammed the inclusion on Thursday's episode of her eponymous SiriusXM show. "It recently came to my attention that Beyoncé', who's on some world tour right now reinventing herself as a country star, is running videotape during the show of yours truly," Kelly began. The clip in question, Kelly clarified, hailed from her conversation with Sky News Australia last year, in which she mocked the country album and the way it had been marketed as if Beyoncé were "Jesus incarnated" and "here to rescue country music." "She is considered untouchable," Kelly continued. "You're not allowed to rip on her, by the way. You're not allowed to rip on Michelle Obama, either, but we do. Too bad. The more untouchable you tell me somebody is, the more likely I am to want to hit them.' She lamented that the music superstar "had to scour the internet to find anybody who offered any criticism of this move [into country] whatsoever," adding, "Here is another one of the most privileged, beloved women in the world, and richest based on her own fortune ... but still has to look for the one sliver where she could play the victim and be aggrieved because big bad Megyn Kelly said something completely milquetoast about her entry into country music.' Kelly then compared the inclusion to her previous spat with George Clooney, who caused great offense when he questioned her career as a journalist last month. Speaking with fellow Broadway star Patti LuPone, Clooney — currently portraying broadcast journalist Edward R. Murrow in Good Night, and Good Luck — said at the time, "I'm not quite sure what she has done to be a journalist.' "He's George f---ing Clooney. She's Beyoncé, but they can't take the mildest criticism," Kelly griped. Entertainment Weekly has reached out to Beyoncé's rep for comment. The Cowboy Carter tour kicked off in Los Angeles on April 28 and is set to conclude in Las Vegas on July 26. The music icon recently won the 2025 Grammy for Best Country Album, becoming the first Black woman to do so. She has spoken candidly about not feeling welcome within the country genre despite her Texan roots. Read the original article on Entertainment Weekly

The Ultimate Egypt Packing List, According to a Cairo Resident

My husband and I have been living in Cairo, Egypt, for a year and a half, and we also had our first daughter since we moved here. Between the city's summers with temperatures exceeding 100 degrees and cooler winter days in the 60s, I've experienced the country's extreme desert climates and dress accordingly, all while navigating motherhood. Additionally, I've developed a list of my must-have items based on some of my favorite things to do here, like playing golf and going to the beach. (Despite being a desert, Egypt has some of the best resort towns I've ever seen.) All in all, don't underestimate the variety of essentials you'll need for your Egyptian adventure. Ahead, you'll find everything I never leave home without—and tell visitors to pack—including sightseeing necessities. Quick Tips It typically takes a while to get checked bags at Cairo International Airport so consider traveling carry-on only, when possible. Pack loose-fitting clothing and layers to deal with heat and modesty considerations. Always stash a pack of wipes as many public bathrooms don't have toilet paper. Packing Checklist for Egypt Clothing Shoes and Accessories Gear and Other Essentials Clothing As a cosmopolitan city, people wear a range of attire; Even though you can get away with shorter silhouettes common at home, I prefer longer lightweight clothing that protects me from the sun's strong rays. When packing, I begin by laying out my suitcase, toiletry bag, and packing cubes. Then, from dresses to socks, I organize my packing cubes based on the items inside them. Before moving here, I stocked up on affordable white and beige-colored linen pieces from cult-favorite brand Quince. Additionally, this Marcella midi-dress became my go-to as you can easily dress it up for brunch at the one-of-a-kind KHUFU's restaurant in front of the pyramids or an afternoon at the underrated Gayer Anderson museum, located right next to the must-visit medieval Ibn Tulun mosque. When out and about, you won't draw attention if your knees are covered. Many people wear sleeveless tops and dresses, especially if it's really hot outside, except at religious sites where you'll be denied entry at a mosque if your knees, shoulders, and head (for women) aren't covered. The only other thing I highly recommend having is sun-protective clothing, or at least investing in a swimsuit with built-in UPF. Shoes and Accessories Between the dust and the lack of sidewalks, your shoes will get dirty. If you love the breezy, all-white monochromatic look like me, this is something I live with when I rock my white Veja sneakers and matching linen set. For the days when I want to switch things up, I break out my comfy Rothy's flats, which I'm not afraid to mess up since the brand is beloved for machine-washable footwear. As noted, a woman will have to cover her head with a scarf, and everyone has to take off their shoes when visiting a mosque, so I suggest wearing shoes with socks. Sometimes the mosque will have plastic covers that look like shower caps you can place over your shoes, or there are cubbies where you can leave your pair behind. If you opt for either, just bring small bills as the attendant will ask you for a tip. To avoid this, you may be able to simply carry your shoes with you as you tour the mosque. Other accessories I finish my looks with are my tan baseball cap that doesn't get dirty easily and my Ray-ban Meta glasses. Between climbing in and out of the pyramids and having to be extra alert when crossing the busy, pedestrian light-free streets, the protective eyewear is a great way to stay hands-free without missing memorable moments as I can take photos with a click of button. Gear and Other Essentials Cairo is a spread-out city with heavy traffic, depending on the time of day, so it's best to have everything you need with you. (The roads are pretty clear early in the morning on the weekends, which are Friday and Saturday, as Egypt follows the Islamic calendar. Keep in mind that this schedule will affect the time sites are open.) All in all, you won't last a full sightseeing day without a water bottle, sunscreen (which is important to consistently reapply), and a portable charger because extreme heat can affect your battery life. I also like to treat myself to a Dior balm that can revitalize and moisturize my hands, body, and lips—plus, it smells fantastic. And since there may not be soap or toilet paper in the public bathrooms, I always have the Aesop rinse-free hand wash and Goodwipes with me. In addition, while Cairo is lined with coffee and dessert shops, there's often no place to grab a quick bite at the major sites outside of the capital city, so I rely on snacks in my bag for a pick-me-up. These must-haves and more all pile into my Dagne Dover backpack that doubles as a diaper bag and comes with a life-saving changing pad, which is something I've only seen once in the bathroom of a restaurant. Finally, I'd recommend you add Egyptian Hieroglyphs for Complete Beginners and Islamic Monuments in Cairo to your cart. The highlight of any Egyptian vacation is the chance to see ancient temples and tombs on a scale like nowhere else in the world. Make the experience even more immersive by learning to read the language the ancient Egyptians left behind. While I'm not yet fluent, there's nothing more thrilling than recognizing a word or phrase in a magnificent temple, thanks to Bill Manley's book. At the same time, there's more to Egypt than its ancient sites, Cairo has an entrancing old city full of medieval mosques and monuments that are nearly 1,000 years old. My husband and I have been following Caroline Williams' book of architectural walking tours for truly off-the-beaten-path experiences. You Might Also Need In addition to a sightseeing stay in Cairo and the surrounding areas, there are other popular activities around the country that are worth a visit. While some require very few packing list adjustments like a luxe Nile cruise, more active endeavors will require planning ahead to reserve precious suitcase space for hiking apparel, beach gear, and other sporty necessities. Golfing: Golfers rejoice! The expensive sport is very affordable in Cairo and is accessible at many major hotels, including the famed Gezira Sporting Club, Hilton Pyramids Golf Hotel, which is known for its breathtaking views of the pyramids, and more. My husband and I are even members of the Katameya Heights club, where I sport my fun, printed golf apparel. If you're on the fence about bringing your golf clubs, just know that you can get plenty of use out of them. Golfers rejoice! Watersports: Egypt may be a desert, but don't sleep on the watersports available to you, and consider packing necessary gear. Tourists flock to snorkel and scuba dive in the Red Sea for the diverse marine life and extraordinary coral reefs, like those within the Ras Mohammed National Park located in the resort city of Sharm El Sheik. Dahab is another nearby snorkeling destination with the most calm and tranquil atmosphere. Also, if you're visiting the Valley of the Kings in Luxor, consider cooling off at Hurghada's white sand beaches complete with kite surfing, on top of snorkeling and scuba diving. Cruising: Yes, you should splurge on a luxury cruise along the Nile. It's a surreal and magical experience that's still on my must-do list of things before we leave early next year. According to our friends, cheaping out on a Nile cruise has led many to bad experiences. You should also consider going between October and April when the weather is ideal, so you won't get hit with heat waves and sandstorms. Frequently Asked Questions What items are not allowed in Egypt? According to the Egypt E-Visa site, there's a long list of prohibited items, including 'explosives, drugs, firearms, narcotics, antiques, agriculture, food products, and more.' You should also obtain a permit beforehand to be able to bring a drone into the country. How can I get around Egypt? Even as a full-time resident, I still use my international roaming that's included at no extra cost with my T-Mobile monthly plan. It's fast enough to be able to navigate using Google Maps and call an Uber. You can also get a local SIM via Vodafone, Orange, Etisalat, and more at the Cairo airport or once you get to your final destination. Overall, getting around Cairo is extremely affordable, but there are tiers. Walking and even just crossing the street can be stressful because there are no crosswalks, pedestrian lights, and traffic won't slow down for you. Then, there are cheap cabs, but I don't recommend hailing one unless you're able to negotiate prices or are willing to give your driver directions in Arabic. The next option is Uber, which is hit or miss because the app is glitchy, and you may be told to cross a busy highway to be picked up. I always choose Uber Comfort for a higher chance of getting a better driver in a nicer car with air conditioning. Of course, a private driver is the way to go, and most guide services can set this up for you. For a smooth start to your trip, I suggest hiring private transportation and an expeditor who can meet you before customs and whisk you through immigration in no time. There's typically a sea of people asking if you need baggage and transportation services at the airport, so this is a way to avoid being overcharged and bothered. Cam Drops New Single 'Alchemy' After Winning Grammy for Working on Beyoncé's 'Cowboy Carter'

Cam released her latest single, "Alchemy," on Friday The genre-blending track celebrates the cyclical nature of life, death and each stage in between To accompany the song, Cam released a one-take visual directed by James MackelCam is back with a magical new single. Months after the "Burning House" singer earned a Grammy for her work on Beyoncé's Cowboy Carter, the country star released a brand-new single titled "Alchemy." The genre-blending track, which is her first release in over four years, celebrates the cyclical nature of life, death and each stage in between, per a press release. 'I wanted to write something where we just focused on melody, but it turned into a song about reflecting on what we're made of, where we're coming from and where we're going," Cam, 40, said in a press release. To accompany the single, Cam released a one-take visual directed by James Mackel, where she performs the song wearing a black pant suit. "Alchemy" follows the release of Cam's 2020 album The Otherside and 2015's Untamed, which featured her Grammy-nominated single "Burning House." In May 2024, Cam opened up to PEOPLE about working on five Cowboy Carter tracks. On the album, she's credited as a writer on "Ameriican Requiem," "Protector," "Daughter," "Tyrant" and "Amen"; co-producing "Ameriican Requiem," "Daughter" and "Amen"; providing background vocals on "Ameriican Requiem" and "Amen"; and engineering on "Daughter." 'I just think this album is doing incredible things, it's going to keep doing incredible things, and just watching it, it's such a fun ride to be on," Cam said of Cowboy Carter. "I'm so proud of it.' She also opened up about the "surreal" feeling of working with the Lemonade songstress. "I know I said surreal earlier, but it just feels like a dream to have someone who's been at the top of her career over 20-plus years see what you're doing and invite you in, which is a very sacred space for artists. It's a huge honor, and I think it's one of the biggest compliments of my life to be just asked, not even the fact that anything made it or didn't. Just being asked is one of the biggest compliments of my life, yeah," she said. When asked how working on Cowboy Carter inspired her creatively, Cam said she wanted to make music in a way that "honors who I am and who my collaborators are." "I want this in my everyday life too, not just in the studio. I think that those values and just holding onto those, going into the studio every day, is just making music so much more fun. I'm having such a good time, and it sounds great," she said. "[My manager] gave me a shirt that says, "Sounds like bulls--- to me," so we put that up in the studio too, so we don't fall into any bulls--- while we're working. No bulls---."
