One detained by Delhi Police after 2 killed in Shahdara e-charging station fire

New Delhi [India], May 25 (ANI): Delhi Police has apprehended the tenant in-charge in connection with the fire at a godown used as an e-rickshaw charging station in the national capital's Shahdara, in which two people lost their lives and four others were injured, officials said on Sunday.
The man who was appended was identified as Vinod Rathore.
According to the police, the tin shed godown in an area around 300 sq at Ram Nagar was being used for charging and parking of sugarcane juice machine e-rickshaws.
A fire erupted in the godown in the early hours today claiming the lives of a 19-year-old Brijesh and an 18-year-old Maniram.
The four injured, Harishankar (19), Rinku (18), Mukesh (22), Vipin (19), in the incident has been admitted to GTB Hospital, the police said.
The injured and the deceased were from Uttar Pradesh and Madhya Pradesh and used to sell sugarcane juice on these rickshaws, police said.

The Aam Aadmi Party leader's remark came after the Al-171 Boeing Dreamliner 787-8 aeroplane bound for London's Gatwick crashed shortly after taking off from the Ahmedabad International Airport on Thursday. The airlines said only one out of the 242 people on board the aircraft survived the crash. The aircraft was piloted by Captain Sumeet Sabharwal, a Line Training Captain with 8,200 hours of flying experience, assisted by First Officer Clive Kundar, who had logged 1,100 flying hours. According to Air Traffic Control (ATC), the aircraft departed from Ahmedabad at 1339 IST (0809 UTC) from runway 23. It made a Mayday call to ATC, but thereafter, the aircraft did not respond to the calls. Immediately after departing Runway 23, the aircraft crashed outside the airport perimeter, and heavy black smoke began emanating from the accident site. There were 169 Indian nationals, 53 British nationals, seven Portuguese nationals, and one Canadian national on board the crashed plane, airline authorities said. (ANI)

Ahmedabad plane crash: DNA sample collection continues to identify victims
Ahmedabad (Gujarat) [India], June 14 (ANI): The collection of DNA samples from the family members of the victims of the Ahmedabad plane crash continued on Saturday, to help identify the bodies. Many came to the BJ Medical College in Ahmedabad to provide their samples. Samples from over 250 people have already been collected in the massive identification effort. The victims' identification relies entirely on DNA results, as the bodies were charred beyond recognition. Meanwhile, the government has constituted a high-level multi-disciplinary committee for examining the causes leading to the crash of the Air India Flight AI-171 from Ahmedabad to Gatwick Airport (London) on June 12, that left 241 people dead. 'A High Level Multi-disciplinary Committee is constituted for examining the causes leading to the crash of the Air India Flight AI-171 from Ahmedabad to Gatwick Airport (London) on June 12, 2025. The Committee will examine the existing Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and guidelines issued to prevent and handle such occurrences and suggest comprehensive guidelines for dealing with such instances in the future,' an order issued by the Civil Aviation Ministry read. 'The Committee will not be a substitute for other enquiries being conducted by relevant organisations but will focus on formulating SOPs for preventing and handling such occurrences in the future,' the order clarified. 'The committee will have access to all records, including, among others, flight data, cockpit voice recorders, aircraft maintenance records, ATC Log and witness testimonies,' it stated, adding that the committee will publish its report within three months. It said that the Committee will be headed by the Home Secretary and will include representatives from the Ministry of Civil Aviation, the Indian Air Force and Aviation experts. The committee will assess the emergency response of the various stakeholders, including rescue operations and coordination among them. It will also suggest policy changes, operational improvements and training enhancements required to prevent such occurrences and handle post-crash incident situations. Stating the objective of constituting the committee, the order said that it was formed to ascertain the root cause of the crash. It also said that the committee will recommend necessary improvements and formulate suitable SOPs to prevent such incidents in the future. These SOPs will also include international best practices regarding preventing and handling such incidents. (ANI)

Gujarat: Parents of Air India flight crash victim demand investigation into incident
Ahmedabad (Gujarat) [India], June 14 (ANI): The parents of Roger Christian, one of the victims in the AI 171 plane crash, on Friday demanded a thorough investigation into the incident. They said that their son wanted to take them to Europe and promised to have them travel to different countries too. Roger's father, David Christian, requested the government to investigate the incident and ensure strict action against the people responsible. He also said that such an incident should not be repeated so that another family does not lose their sons or daughters. 'We urge the administration to investigate this. We have lost our son and daughter-in-law but we request that this should not happen to anyone, so strict action should be taken against whoever is guilty,' he told ANI here. The father also recounted dropping off his son and daughter-in-law to the airport, and talking afterwards, with him saying that he spoke to Roger at 1:15 PM, just a few minutes before the takeoff, and the subsequent accident. 'They had reached here on Saturday and were here for five days. They had their flight, and I had gone to the airport to see them off. After their clearances around 11-11.15 am, they asked me to return home as their flight would have left only after 1.30 pm. So, I returned home. I called them up around 1.15 pm. My son told me that they are seated and they would take off in 15 minutes,' he said. However, he first got to know about the crash through a relative. Later on, both parents went to the hospital to try to find the couple, and only got to know about their demise. 'I returned home. I called them up around 1.15 pm. Roger Christian's mother, Sarla Christian said that his son was a man of few words but always took his parents to different places. She told ANI, 'He was a man of few words and very loving. They were a good couple and shared a good bond. They took us to several places, when they came to visit us. He told us to visit him and that he would take us around London and other places - Switzerland, Scotland and several other places. He had promised his father that he would take him to Finland because our daughter-in-law's brother is in Estonia. But this tragedy happened in the morning. We lost our son.' In the plane, there were 169 Indian nationals, 53 British nationals, seven Portuguese nationals, and one Canadian national. Miraculously, only one person, a British National with Indian origin, survived the accident, identified as Vishwashkumar Ramesh. The Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) has ordered enhanced safety inspections on Air India's Boeing 787-8/9 fleet. As a preventive measure, the DGCA has directed Air India to carry out additional maintenance actions on B787-8/9 aircraft equipped with Genx engines with immediate effect, in coordination with the concerned regional DGCA offices.
