celebrations in the state on Monday, offering prayers for global peace and harmony.At the
Mahabodhi Mahavihara
in
Bodh Gaya
, governor Khan, the chief guest at the event organised by the Bodh Gaya Temple Management Committee (BTMC), prayed at the sanctum sanctorum and presented a robe, flowers, incense sticks and kheer to the statue of Lord Buddha.
He also unveiled Prajna-2025, the BTMC's annual bilingual magazine. A peace procession earlier in the day, from the 80-feet Buddha statue to the sacred Bodhi tree, saw participants offer prayers under the world heritage Mahabodhi tree.BTMC chairman and district magistrate Thiyagarajan SM highlighted recent developments at the Mahavihara, including the installation of a 180KW solar power plant and the recycling of offered flowers into incense products. The event featured speakers such as International Buddhist Council president Ven N Tenzing Gyatso and Thailand's Upasika Thosporn Wachiraganphen, who spoke on the life and teachings of Buddha.In Patna, CM Nitish Kumar participated in a spiritual programme at Buddha Smriti Park where he offered prayers to Lord Buddha and meditated at the Pataliputra Karuna Stupa. Guided by monks, he worshipped Bodhi trees from Bodh Gaya, Anand, and Sri Lanka's Anuradhapura. "I prayed for the happiness, prosperity, and harmony of the state and the country," he said.The CM also visited the Vipassana Centre, appreciated its facilities and later offered prayers to the Buddhist rock and Bodhi tree at his residence. Deputy CMs Samrat Choudhary and Vijay Kumar Sinha, ministers and MPs also attended the event.

He further accused the Nitish Kumar-BJP alliance of dismantling the law enforcement machinery in Bihar. 'Nitish-BJP hasn't just destroyed law and order -- they've buried it. Bihar has never seen such a corrupt, indifferent, and lethargic police force,' Lalu alleged. He also referred to Monday's double-murder in Patna's Alamganj area, where three members of a family were shot at in broad daylight, and two later died of their injuries in the hospital. He said such incidents reflect the grim state of public safety in the state. Lalu's remarks came a day after Bihar ADG (Headquarters) Kundan Krishnan acknowledged a marginal rise in murder cases during a press briefing. According to police data, Bihar recorded a monthly average of 232 murder cases in 2024, which has risen slightly to 233 per month in the first five months of 2025. With Assembly elections in Bihar slated later this year, law and order are fast emerging as major political issues in the state. Opposition leaders are increasingly targeting the ruling NDA government over public safety and administrative efficiency.

Patna (Bihar) [India], June 10 (ANI): Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) supremo and former Bihar Chief Minister Lalu Prasad Yadav on Tuesday criticised Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar, alleging a failure of law and order under his government and claiming that over 65,000 murders have taken place during his tenure. In a post on X, the former CM cited official statistics to claim that over 65,000 murders have occurred during Nitish Kumar's tenure. 'Does Nitish know, recognise and understand that during his rule, according to official figures, 65,000 murders have taken place? 65,000 people have been murdered, 65,000!', he wrote on X. Raising concerns over daylight crimes, Yadav questioned the state of policing in Bihar. 'Nitish should tell how many murders are taking place by breaking into houses before 5 p.m.?' he said. RJD Chief further added, 'Nitish-BJP has not only destroyed the law and order but has also cremated it. Bihar has never had such a corrupt, careless and lazy police.' Earlier, Tejashwi Yadav launched a sharp attack on the Nitish Kumar-led Bihar government, accusing it of failing on law and order and allowing the health system to collapse. Yadav said to reporters, 'Criminals are on the loose in Bihar. Many incidents are constantly coming to light, and the police seem helpless. The government is also sleeping, and it seems as if they have nothing to do with anything.., rape happens and the Deputy CM makes promises, this is the situation. This is maha-jungle raj.' The developments come as political temperatures rise in Bihar ahead of the 2025 Assembly elections. Opposition parties criticise the government over rising crime and alleged governance failures. Meanwhile, Bihar elections are expected to be held later this year in October or November; however, the Election Commission of India (ECI) has not announced an official date. While the NDA, consisting of the BJP, JD(U), and LJP, will once again be looking to continue their stint in Bihar, the INDIA bloc, consisting of the RJD, Congress, and left parties, will be looking to unseat Nitish Kumar. In the current Bihar Assembly, which has 243 members, the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) has 131, the BJP has 80 MLAs, JD(U) has 45, and HAM(S) has 4, with the support of 2 Independent Candidates. This is the 11th edition of the newspaper that publishes from New Delhi, Mumbai, Nagpur, Ahmedabad, Vadodara, Jaipur, Lucknow, Kolkata, Chandigarh, Pune and, now, Patna.
