Aly Goni recalls being told ‘hum Muslims ko ghar nahi dete' during house hunt with Jasmin Bhasin
When asked if he had faced discrimination because of his religion, Aly said, "I have never faced discrimination in the industry for being Kashmiri. However, I faced it a lot during the house hunt. Aaj bhi hota hai. Jasmin and I were searching for a house, but many people refused to give us house, saying, 'Hum Muslims ko ghar nahi dete' (We don't rent homes to Muslims)."
He went on to add, 'The majority of people who refused to give us a home were older individuals. Zyada se zyada 10-12 saal aur jeene waale hain woh log, aur uske baad jal ke rakh ho jaaoge ya kabar mein chale jaaoge, toh kya karoge uss building ka? (At most, these people will live another 10–12 years, and after that, they'll either be reduced to ashes or buried in a grave—so what will they do with that building?)'
Aly and Jasmin were best friends before they began dating. Their romance began during Bigg Boss 14. Aly entered the show as a wildcard contestant to support Jasmin when she was emotionally struggling. Later, their sweet camaraderie and care for each other had both fans and host Salman Khan rooting for them. The couple confessed their feelings on the show and have been together since. They have now decided to move in together.
In April, Aly's close friend and actor Krishna Mukherjee spoke about the couple's wedding plans on Rush with Ruch podcast, saying, "Iss saal ho rahi hai, ya fir agle saal ho rahi hai unki shaadi, guys. 'Not just Muslims, everyone comes there on Eid to eat biryani or yakhni pulao. They also prepare a separate set of dishes for the Jains who live across the road. It's wonderful to see them sitting around, and Ali's 90-year-old grandmother will make paan. The whole mahaul is so joyous,' she shared. She shared that Ali also embraced all the Hindu festivals like Diwali and Bhai Dooj that her family celebrates. 'He was so happy. Recently, he came dancing to a big fat Punjabi wedding, and he was just showered and smothered in love,' she shared. Going a step further, Richa also spoke about what she believes to be the biological benefits of promoting marriages outside one's own community. 'I think we must take a cue from nature. Kabir Khan reveals he fought with CBFC to keep ‘Jai Shri Ram' scene in Salman Khan's Bajrangi Bhaijaan: 'They said that Muslims won't...'
As per Kabir Khan, CBFC suggested removing the line because they feared that it might upset Muslim viewers Salman Khan, Nawazuddin Siddiqui, Kareena Kapoor and Harshali Malhotra starrer Bajrangi Bhaijaan is considered one of the best Bollywood films in recent times. In a recent interview, the director of the film Kabir Khan revealed that the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) asked him to remove a scene featuring Om Puri's character (who portrays a maulvi) saying 'Jai Shri Ram", but he stood firm and kept it in the movie. 'I asked why and they said that Muslims won't like it," he recalled. 'I said 'Sir, what's my name? I don't mind it at all," said Kabir while speaking at the eighth edition of The Indian Express' Expresso. He believes that audiences are more open-minded than some of the 'gatekeepers" as they anticipate the backlash before it even happens. If the film still gets love, then it means that somewhere it hit home," he said adding, 'I feel it's the gatekeepers who sometimes draw these limits." 'I have grown up in a Delhi where 'Jai Shri Ram' was not a political salutation. It was used by everybody and I have been in Old Delhi where 'Jai Shri Ram' was like saying 'hello' and 'goodbye'," the filmmaker said. The director pushed back against the board's concerns and made sure the scene remains in the film the way it is written and shot. 'I fought for it. I stuck to it," quoted Kabir Khan. Recalling a screening, which he attended on Eid's opening day, where the cinema hall was packed with 'blue collar Muslim workers" and how they enjoyed the moments on the screen, Kabir shared, 'I get gooseflesh thinking of it now… the censors thought they will not like it.
