Beauty queen, 35, was abducted, hog tied and weighed down with rocks before suffering nightmarish death

A beauty queen has suffered a nightmarish death after being abducted from a grocery store in what investigators believe was a 'premeditated attack'.
Acquene Arradaza, 35, was snatched by three armed men while shopping in Ormoc City, the Philippines on July 31.
Police believe the former Miss Matag-ob pageant winner was murdered, hogtied and weighed down with rocks before her captors dumped her body in the sea.
Investigators were alerted of her disappearance on August 4 after a group of local fisherman found her decomposing body drifting in the water off the coast of the seaside village of Barangay 99 Diit.
Arradaza was found naked, gagged and blindfolded. Her feet and hands had been bound and a bicycle lock was tied around her neck.
Police say her face was covered with black cloth and wrapped with duct tape. Her body was also bound to two sacks that were meant to weigh her down to the bottom of the sea.
The alleged abduction was only reported by relatives on Monday, the same day her body was discovered.
Officials say Arradaza may have been able to be saved had her loved ones filed a missing persons report sooner.
Surveillance camera footage captured the moment Arradaza was abducted from a store in Valencia, Ormoc City as she was buying groceries on July 31.
A black Toyota Wigo with license plate number 1799 pulled over near the shoulder before three men stormed out and forcibly bundled the model into the vehicle.
The suspects then quickly fled scene, travelling in the direction of Kananga, Leyte.
The same vehicle was seen heading toward Tacloban City shortly after the abduction, The Manila Times reports.
Her body was spotted in the sea by local fisherman five days later, having already begun to decay.
'The body was already in the bloated stage and it was naked,' Police Major Shenna Layog, acting commander of the Tacloban City Police Station 2, said.
'The tongue was already sticking out. It was also seen that the neck, hands and feet were tied. The face was covered with black cloth and even wrapped with duct tape.'
Arradaza's family confirmed her identity through the tattoos on her back.
Police are now working to track down the suspects and investigate a motive for what appears to be a targeted and 'premeditated attack'.
The model's mother Vilma Arradaza is now campaigning for justice and urging Philippines Sen. Raffy Tulfo to help with her daughter's case
The model's sister Patricia Arradaza reported her missing on August 4 around 8am.
She also revealed the beauty queen had spoken with a man named Pay-ap Drilon the same morning she was abducted.
Ormoc City police spokesman Lieutenant Nova Tan criticized the family for not reporting the incident earlier.
'We could have intercepted the suspects' vehicle at the city or municipal borders if they filed a report earlier,' Tan said.
Arradaza's brother, Eros Arradaza, 30, was killed in a gunfight with police during a drug bust in the same province last year.
The model's mother Vilma Arradaza is now campaigning for justice and urging Filipino politicians to help with her daughter's case.

Four arrested after break-in at home reportedly owned by Brad Pitt, say police

Four people have been arrested in connection with a burglary earlier this summer at a Los Angeles home reportedly owned by actor Brad Pitt, police said. Officers responded on June 25 to a break-in at the house in the Los Feliz area of the city. Advertisement Police said at the time that suspects broke in through the front window, ransacked the home and fled with miscellaneous property. Detectives have made four arrests, Officer Drake Madison said on Tuesday. He said the suspects' names could be released later in the day. Officials could not identify who owned or lived in the home, and no information was available on what was stolen. Pitt reportedly bought the property for 5.5 million US dollars (£4 million) in April 2023, according to Traded, a commercial real estate website. Gold bars and designer handbags up for auction after £1.7bn laundering gang jailed

A haul of gold bars, Hermes handbags, designer watches and jade necklaces seized in Singapore's biggest money laundering case is to be sold at auction. Ten members of a Chinese crime syndicate that had set up a remote gambling ring in the Philippines involving goods worth £1.7 billion were arrested in simultaneous raids across Singapore in August 2023. Two of the suspects jumped off the second-floor balcony of a house trying to flee arrest. The team of 400 officers impounded a fleet of high-end cars and seized 152 properties in expensive neighbourhoods. In total, around £577,435,000 of assets belonging to the gang were seized. The nine men, and one woman, all from Fujian province on the east coast of China, were sentenced in June last year to between 13 months and 17 months imprisonment for money laundering and related offences. Police announced on Tuesday that 466 items, including 50 branded handbags from Louis Vuitton, Hermes, Dior and Chanel, 58 gold bars, and 14 designer watches were to be handed over to the international consulting company Deloitte. Deloitte is intending to sell the items over auction and the proceeds, along with the forfeited cash, will go into Singapore's consolidated fund, the equivalent of a bank account held by the government, police said. Each gold bar weighs 1kg and is worth approximately £80,000. The gang's operation began to fall apart after its ringleader Su Jianfeng, a 36-year-old Vanuatu national, aroused suspicions from his bank about the source of his income when he deposited huge sums of money into his accounts. Jianfeng and his wife, Chen Qiuyan, had built a sprawling empire of companies and a fortune estimated at £107,000,000. A fraud investigation revealed that Jianfeng had submitted false documents to his bank to try and verify his income. Investigators uncovered how Su Jianfeng was involved in an unlawful remote gambling business overseas, in which he ran and promoted gambling websites. He was arrested in the raids with his co-conspirators and charged with four counts of money laundering offences, eight counts of fraudulently using a forged document, one count of employing a foreigner without a valid work pass and one count of abetment of making a false declaration in an application for a work pass. In a search of his home, police found £320,000 in cash locked in a safe. He was sentenced to 17 months imprisonment. Many of the gang members had multiple passports from Cambodia, Vanuatu, Cyprus and Dominica. All the gang members were deported from Singapore. Su Haijin, a Cypriot national, was even photographed at dinners with Singaporean ministers and a ruling party lawmaker. Two former bankers from Citibank and Swiss private bank, Julius Baer, were accused of helping the gang members illegally apply for loans with forged documents. A further 17 suspects are wanted in connection with the case and are on the run. David Chew, director of the commercial affairs department, the police investigating arm for white collar crime, said: 'To protect Singapore's financial system, the police will spare no effort to detect abuse, arrest the criminals and deprive them of their ill-gotten gains. In Singapore, these criminals will not find safe harbour for themselves or their wealth.'

Man is found dead in children's play area 'after attacking his partner with an iron bar and leaving her fighting for her life'

A man is believed to have killed himself in a children's play area in a quiet Yorkshire village after fleeing the cottage where his partner lay critically injured. Shona Blackburn, 46, was brutally beaten with an iron bar yesterday before her gym-goer boyfriend ran off - sparking a huge manhunt. He was later found dead among play equipment behind the village hall in picturesque Naburn, just outside York. According to locals, the couple had lived in the village a number of years where keen horsewoman Ms Blackburn had a job working from her £300,000 cottage. Her partner - who has yet to be named - did not appear to work and was often seen out walking her whippet, called Lady. After the drama unfolded shortly before 6pm yesterday, the 'frightened' dog fled the house and was later found at a nearby former railway station on the edge of the village. In an update this evening North Yorkshire Police said officers 'are not looking for anyone else' in connection with the death of the man, aged in his 40s. Ms Blackburn and her partner were both regulars at the local pub, The Blacksmiths Arms, where regulars were in shock about what had happened. 'She was attacked with an iron bar - quite brutally,' one said today. 'He then did a runner. Police were asking locals to look for him so it became a local manhunt. 'Then he was found in the play park behind the village hall. 'The air ambulance landed in the field at the back. It is very sad. 'They were only in the pub on Sunday. He seemed a nice guy. 'They came in the pub a few times a week. 'He looked like a regular gym goer, very muscly tanned and tattooed. He was always pleasant and nice. 'When they came on Sunday they did not seem any different. 'There is a weird feeling in the village today. Everyone is messaging everyone.' A pensioner said: 'My son knew Shona well and is devastated. She is absolutely lovely - so nice and kind. 'I often used to see her out walking her dog when she was not working from home and she would always smile and say "Hello". 'I just cannot believe what has happened.' After the attack was discovered word spread around the village that her partner was on the run. One local woman who lives opposed the village hall said: 'All we were told by police was that there was a man on the loose. 'There were police everywhere. 'The air ambulance landed in the field behind the church hall to take Shona to hospital but no one saw her boyfriend at the time. 'Later police cordoned off the play area and we heard he had killed himself. 'She is a lovely lady. Everyone went looking for her dog and she was found near the old station not far away.' People in the village said Shona did not appear to have any children of her own but her partner may have been a dad by a previous relationship. There was no reply from the couple's terraced cottage yesterday as police continued a painstaking forensic examination of the scene. The area behind the house was taped off as a crime scene while the play area - which has reopened to the public - was deserted. One mother said: 'I reckon it will be a while before anyone takes their kids there again. 'The whole village is in shock. You hardly ever even see a policeman or an ambulance man around here.' North Yorkshire Police said officers were called at around 5.50pm yesterday 'by a concerned member of the public to reports of an assault'. 'On arrival officers found a woman with a serious head injury. 'She was treated at the scene and then taken to hospital by air ambulance for further treatment. 'A search for the suspect who had left the scene, led officers to a nearby playpark where the body of a man was found. 'Officers are not looking for anyone else in connection with his death. 'An investigation is ongoing into both incidents. 'Our thanks go to members of the public who supported the victim of the assault and helped at the scene of the incident. 'We realise the events in Naburn will have caused shock and concern in the village. 'However, officers believe that the wider community were not at risk and that both parties involved in the incident knew each other.'
