Puppies ditched on side of road seek forever homes
A litter of American bulldog/mix two-month old puppies was found abandoned at the side of the road in Barrie's south end in August 2025. Several puppies found abandoned in Barrie earlier this month are now looking for their forever homes. A representative with the Ontario SPCA and Humane Society said a litter of nine American bulldog-mix puppies, believed to be eight weeks old, were found on the side of the road in the Essa Road and Mapleview Drive West area last week. Since no one has come forward to claim the pups, they are now available for adoption. Because the Barrie Animal Centre was unable to house the pups, they were split up and sent to three locations: the Orangeville and District Animal Centre, the York Region Animal Centre and the Humane Society of Durham Region. Two female puppies are listed with the Orangeville shelter for adoption, while four other females are in Durham. The Ontario SPCA representative says the remaining pups at the York Region centre will be posted soon. Anyone interested in adopting a puppy will need to reach out to the animal centre directly.
