UN: Iraqi Ministry of Interior Successful in Combating Human Trafficking

The United Nations confirmed on Thursday that the Iraqi Ministry of Interior has succeeded in combating human trafficking crimes, noting that it arrested more than 1,000 suspects during 2024.
The organization said in a statement received by the Iraqi News Agency (INA): "The Iraqi Ministry of Interior has succeeded in combating human trafficking and arrested more than 1,000 suspects in 2024."
The statement added that "the Iraqi Ministry of Interior has implemented anti-drug programs as part of its 2025-2030 National Strategy," indicating that "the ministry has activated hotlines and units to support children who are victims of violence and trafficking."
The statement confirmed that "the Iraqi Ministry of Interior has linked the Anti-Human Trafficking Department with the Secret Services Department to enhance the fight against transnational crime."
It also indicated that "the Iraqi Ministry of Interior has strengthened the role of the civil police to monitor and address corporal punishment against children."

At a joint press conference, al-Sudani reaffirmed Iraq's support for Lebanon's sovereignty, unity, and stability, pledging to advocate for the country during Iraq's presidency of the Arab League, and rejected the ongoing Israeli violations of Lebanese territory. 'Iraq contributed $20M to the Arab Fund for Lebanon's reconstruction,' he added. Al-Sudani also welcomed the formation of Lebanon's new government as a crucial step toward restoring political order, identifying energy, telecommunications, trade, and private-sector development as 'opportunities that can serve both.' The global community must intervene immediately.' Earlier today, the Lebanese president arrived at the Iraqi capital at the invitation of Iraqi President Abdul Latif Rashid. He is scheduled to meet with Rashid to discuss bilateral ties, regional developments, and ways to bolster cooperation between the two countries.

PM assures the Lebanese President of continued support and assistance to overcome current challenges

The Prime Minister's media office stated in a statement received by the Iraqi News Agency (INA), "Prime Minister Mohammed Shia al-Sudani held a bilateral meeting with Lebanese President Joseph Aoun at the Government Palace in Baghdad, discussing relations between the two countries and ways to cooperate in various fields, in addition to discussing developments in the region." The statement added that "the meeting reviewed bilateral relations, common positions, and ways to expand the constructive partnership between Iraq and Lebanon, enhance economic integration at various levels, and increase opportunities for fruitful communication between the public and private sectors in the two brotherly countries." Prime Minister affirmed "Iraq's commitment, both government and people, to supporting Lebanon, strengthening its state institutions, standing by the brotherly Lebanese people, and rejecting any attack on its sovereignty or foreign interference," noting "continued support and assistance to overcome current challenges." For his part, the Lebanese President expressed his thanks and appreciation for Iraq's principled and practical positions toward Lebanon, especially in light of the difficult circumstances experienced by the Lebanese people. He praised "Iraq's role in enhancing Lebanon's ability to confront various challenges, its support for its sovereignty and stability, and its efforts to expand horizons of cooperation to serve the interests of the two brotherly peoples."
