Iraqi PM receives Lebanese president in Baghdad
Baghdad (IraqiNews.com) – The Iraqi Prime Minister, Mohammed Shia Al-Sudani, received on Sunday the Lebanese President, Joseph Aoun, upon his arrival in the Iraqi capital, Baghdad.
The two sides are holding official discussions on strategies to enhance Iraqi-Lebanese ties in different areas, according to a statement released by the Prime Minister's Office (PMO).
The two leaders are also reviewing the situation in the region, as well as prospects to improve regional and international security and stability.
Al-Sudani and Aoun discussed approaches to strengthen Iraq-Lebanon's constructive collaboration, improve economic integration, and promote possibilities for positive interactions between the two countries' public and private sectors.
Al-Sudani reaffirmed Iraq's commitment to assisting Lebanon, building its state institutions, and rejecting any attack on its sovereignty or foreign intervention that undermines its independence.
The Iraqi prime minister also noted Iraq's continuing support to help Lebanon overcome current obstacles.
Aoun expressed appreciation for Iraq's attitudes toward Lebanon, particularly in light of the terrible conditions that the Lebanese people face.
The Lebanese president lauded Iraq's role in strengthening Lebanon's ability to face diverse difficulties, its support for Lebanon's stability, and its efforts to broaden cooperation to benefit the people of both countries.

GCC calls on Iraq to honor Kuwait's sovereignty, pushes power link forward
Shafaq News/ On Friday, Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) foreign ministers urged Iraq to respect Kuwait's sovereignty and pledged to advance plans to link Iraq to the Gulf power grid, strengthening regional energy ties. In a joint statement following the conclusion of the GCC Ministerial Council's 164th session, held in Kuwait, the ministers emphasized the importance of strengthening Gulf-Iraq relations while upholding international norms and existing agreements. The communique praised the 'positive partnership' between the GCC and Baghdad, confirming progress on the cross-border electricity interconnection project. The initiative is part of broader efforts to deepen economic integration and energy coordination across the region. The council also reiterated that the entire Durra gas field lies within Kuwait's maritime territory. It underlined that natural resources in the adjacent submerged area—shared exclusively between Saudi Arabia and Kuwait—are jointly owned by the two nations. Iraq advances major rail rehabilitation & Development Road project
Baghdad ( – Iraq's Ministry of Transport is making significant strides in rehabilitating its national railway network and advancing the strategic Development Road project, spokesperson Maytham Al-Safi announced. These efforts mark a new phase for Iraq's transport sector. Al-Safi highlighted the completion and reopening of 12 key railway lines, some after decades of disuse, including the Qayyarah refinery line in Mosul and the Baghdad-Fallujah passenger line. New projects are also underway, such as the Basra-Shalamcheh rail link with Spanish firm Imathia Construcción, vital for passenger transport. Additionally, 15 locomotives were rehabilitated in 2024.
