Licence review for Woverhampton venue serving after hours
A Wolverhampton club is to have its licence reviewed after being caught selling alcohol after hours.A city council review of CCTV footage found De Fusion Bar and Restaurant in Exchange Street, Wolverhampton had been serving alcohol beyond its 02:30 cut-off.Officers also visited on 25 January, finding pints sold in glass rather than plastic ahead of Wolves' home game against Arsenal, and the venue had not used door staff ahead of the 15:00 GMT kick-off.The venue has been contacted for comment.
Staff had not been trained properly, there were no incident logs and "insufficient" records on maintenance checks and fire risk assessments, the council said.It added the venue did not have security and safety notices about drugs or weapons and was unable to provide requested CCTV footage within 24 hours as per the requirements of the licence.Following the inspection, the council contacted licence holder Ikenna Orajaka who requested a follow-up visit saying the requirements for the list of breaches found during the inspection were "mostly in place" and could be resolved by his attendance.According to City of Wolverhampton Council documents, the subsequent visit again found several breaches that had not been rectified, and CCTV footage viewed by officers found the bar was serving after the 02:30 cut-off.West Midlands Police said it supported the review saying the results of the inspection had shown a "clear disregard" for the licence. The force said it was also investigating two separate incidents at De Fusion which added "further concern of the management of the premises."The council's licensing subcommittee will meet on 30 April.

A former Premier League player and FA Cup winner is facing up to 13 years in prison after being accused of smuggling £48 worth of cocaine. Former Wigan defender Ronnie Stam also faces the prospect of being fined up to £1.5m after he allegedly trafficked two tonnes of drugs. The 40-year-old in on trial in Breda alongside his brother Rudi, accused of smuggling cocaine from South America to the Netherlands. The public prosecutor has suggested Stam be sent to prison until 2038 and pay the £1.5m fine, while his brother Rudi could be imprisoned for six years with the same fine. The ex-Wigan player has been in custody for a year since he was first arrested over the allegations. A prosecutor told a hearing last September: 'This case concerns hundreds of kilos of cocaine each time. I contend that Stam was a major player in the drugs world.' Dutch broadcaster Omroepbrabant reports that when Stam heard of the 13 year sentence being called for, he suggested it was only because of his fame. 'My children had to cry about it,' he said. 'The youngest thinks he will never see me again and the oldest thinks I will miss his entire football career. 'More than for the biggest drug criminals. And that is only because this is a media case, because I was good at football.' The ex-footballer claims he is innocent, telling the judge: 'I am not a major player in the drug world.' The trial continues as the Stam brothers await a verdict, expected in August. The younger Stam signed for Wigan for £2m in 2010 after winning the Eredivisie with FC Twente. The right-back went on to play 62 times in the Premier League for Wigan and won the FA Cup with them in 2013, although he did not play in the final. Police body camera footage shows the dramatic moment Darwent sped away from the police block, prompting other cops to chase after him. Despite having his tyres shredded by a police stinger, Darwent reached blistering speeds racing his BMW down the main road, in hot pursuit of officers. After breaking off from the tarmac, the drug dealer took the chase onto the historic grounds of the 17th century manor Doddington Hall. He can be seen careering down a dirt track, with cops appearing to ask if they could engage in "tactical content" before Darwent returned to the main road. Reaching the end of the rugged path, Darwent swings a hard right turn - taking him and officers into a large field of crops. Here, however, the advantage turned to the police, as the chasing officers managed to ram and immobilise the drug dealer's car, bringing them to a screeching halt. Then, the two officers can be seen quickly jumping out of their vehicles to arrest Darwent and the other male in his vehicle. They can be seen smashing in the windows of the drug dealer's car, forcing them to show their hands as backup arrives. The two officers then drag Darwent and the other man out onto the ground to be arrested. Police say the drug line was worth up to £252,000 to the gang, who supplied around 5.8kg of cocaine to dealers and users. Three other members of the group were also sentenced after admitting conspiracy to supply class A drugs. Kirsty Reilly, 32, drove drugs from Coventry to Skegness and was jailed for three years. Sarah Makey, 47, received a 21-month sentence, suspended for 18 months, and was ordered to do 80 hours of unpaid work. Her husband Nathan, 48, dealt drugs and sent out marketing messages on his phone on behalf of the holder of the Abs line - Alistair Renwick. Renwick was jailed for nine years in April while Makey will be sentenced in August. In an attempt to crackdown on organised crime, the police unit launched an operation to tackle eight separate drug lines that had brought crack cocaine and heroine into the county's coastal towns. More than 70 people have been arrested since the operation was launched in September 2022 - with a cumulative prison sentence of more than 120 years. Five feared killed in horror school shooting as armed police swarm scene
Elite armed police have raced to a school in Graz, Austria's second largest city, after a gunman opened fire in broad daylight. The BORG Dreierschützengasse school is being evacuated with officers swarming the scene. Austrian special task force Cobra has also been deployed to the horror incident, which unfolded at about 10am local time. There are fears as many as five people may have been killed and multiple people injured, according to local media, and a police spokesperson believes the shooter may be a pupil at the school. Students and teachers are believed to be among the victims. Federal police have been deployed to the scene, according to local reports. Cobra units - armed special forces part of the Federal Ministry of the Interior - have rushed to a community administered hospital nearby the shooting site. At keast five people may have died following the school shooting this morning. Police rushed to the scene at around 10am local time (9am GMT) this morning, in the Dreierschützengasse neighborhood, with a local spokesperson telling national broadcaster ORF early on that one person may have died. Fritz Grundnig said one person "possibly also dead" following the shooting.
