When the New York Yankees acquired former Milwaukee Brewers closer Devin Williams in the offseason, it was evident last season's closer Luke Weaver would be moved back to the setup role, a place he'd been in previous seasons.
Due to Williams' struggles in the early part of the season, Weaver was moved back to the closer role and excelled. Williams will get a second opportunity in the closer role as Weaver is headed to the injured list with an apparent hamstring injury.
LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA - MAY 31: Luke Weaver #30 of the New York Yankees pitches during an 18-2 loss to the Los Angeles Dodgers at Dodger Stadium on May 31, 2025 in Los Angeles, California.
LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA - MAY 31: Luke Weaver #30 of the New York Yankees pitches during an 18-2 loss to the Los Angeles Dodgers at Dodger Stadium on May 31, 2025 in Los Angeles, California.ESPN's MLB insider Jeff Passan reported late Monday night that Weaver would be headed to the injured list and expected to miss 4-6 weeks because of a hamstring injury. Passan reported the injury was suffered Sunday night when Weaver was warming up to enter New York's game against the Los Angeles Dodgers.
Weaver has been phenomenal this season for the Yankees, as he's posted a 1.05 ERA, eight saves and 24 strikeouts in 24 appearances and 25 2/3 innings. He's allowed just three runs all year and was well on track to represent New York in this season's All-Star Game.
Because of Weaver's injury, Williams will be placed back in the closer role and will look to turn his season around. He currently has a 6.23 ERA and has allowed 15 runs in 21 2/3 innings. Williams was one of the best closers in the league during his time in Milwaukee, as shown by his career 1.83 ERA and 68 saves with the Brewers.
New York will need Williams to step up and perform at the level he is capable in hopes of staying atop the AL East and awaiting the return of Weaver for a postseason push in September and October.

Patriots defensive coordinator still absent due to ‘health scare'
FOXBOROUGH – As the Patriots work their way through their offseason workout program, there's a notable presence missing on the field. This marks the second week of OTAs as the Patriots have two more weeks left of spring practices before departing for a brief vacation. At this point, the team is still without defensive coordinator Terrell Williams. Advertisement Earlier this offseason, Mike Vrabel revealed that Williams had not been in Foxborough due to a medical issue. The defensive coordinator explained that he was back home and not able to travel due to his doctor's orders. On Wednesday, before practice, Vrabel said he didn't have any updates on Williams. 'No, just that he continues to, like our players, work hard to get back,' Vrabel said. 'I'm excited to have him back. Again, the communication that I see every day with him and the players in their meetings, and I know that he's excited. Hopefully, we'll get him back here sooner rather than later.' Williams wouldn't go into detail on his condition, but noted it was a 'health scare' and 'traumatic.' Advertisement With Williams not at Gillette Stadium, the Patriots have made some adjustments. In his absence, inside linebackers coach Zak Kuhr has taken over defensive coordinator duties during practice. Inside the building, however, the Patriots still have Williams run defensive meetings virtually through Zoom. After Wednesday's practice, linebacker Christian Elliss said the defensive coordinator is still able to make an impact on his players. 'Coach T is still with us. We see him every single day on Zoom,' Elliss said. 'So, his energy is not unfelt. We still hear his energy, hear his voice. He gives us the corrections we need to get, so he's still our DC and he still leads this group.' More Patriots Content Read the original article on MassLive.

At Combs Trial, ‘Jane,' an Ex-Girlfriend, to Testify About Sex Abuse
A second woman who prosecutors say was sex trafficked by Sean Combs is set to take the stand on Thursday at his federal trial in what is expected to be several days of testimony about drug-fueled sex marathons with male prostitutes known as 'freak-offs.' A judge has allowed the woman to testify anonymously, and she is being referred to in court by the pseudonym 'Jane.' She is the most significant witness since Casandra Ventura, Mr. Combs's on-and-off girlfriend of 11 years, whose allegations of physical and sexual abuse gave rise to the criminal case. Prosecutors have said that Jane's relationship with Mr. Combs mirrored the one he had with Ms. Ventura in many ways. Like Ms. Ventura, they have said, Jane was coerced into freak-offs through violence, financial control and threats related to videos of the sexual encounters, which they said Mr. Combs directed step by step. Unlike Ms. Ventura, who is a singer known as Cassie and a public celebrity, Jane's identity has not been revealed. The government has described Jane as a single mother who started spending time with Mr. Combs in 2020 and quickly fell in love with the music mogul, agreeing to participate in an initial freak-off to please him. 'Jane thought the first freak-off was a one-time, wild night,' Emily Johnson, one of the prosecutors, said at the start of the case. 'Jane was wrong.' Want all of The Times? Subscribe.

Report: Clippers' James Harden Trending Towards Declining Player Option for 2025-26 Season
Report: Clippers' James Harden Trending Towards Declining Player Option for 2025-26 Season originally appeared on Athlon Sports. Before the Los Angeles Clippers can begin looking to improve their roster this offseason, they have a key player currently on their team whose contract situation needs to play out. Advertisement Star guard James Harden only has a player option for the 2025-26 season left on his current contract. That option is worth $36.35 million for next season and fans have been waiting to see if Harden will pick it up. Los Angeles Clippers Guard James HardenRon Chenoy-Imagn Images The answer is beginning to become more clear based on a recent report. According to Hoops Hype's Michael Scotto, Harden is "leaning towards" declining the option. Scotto added that Harden and the Clippers are still interested in keeping Harden in LA and a new deal would likely keep him with the team of the next two seasons to line up with the time remaining on Kawhi Leonard's contract. Harden is coming off of a season for the Clippers where he earned All-NBA Third Team honors. Advertisement He averaged 22.8 points per game, 8.7 assists, and 5.8 rebounds per game during the regular season. Harden also put together a decent defensive season, which hasn't always been the case in his career. By declining his player option, he'll be looking to turn his 2024-25 performance into a bit of a pay bump and a longer commitment from the Clippers. If the Clippers are going to keep themselves hanging around the top of the Western Conference, they'll need to work out a deal to keep Harden around as there aren't many realistic options out there for them to acquire a player of his caliber.
