NFPA joins the global ‘Billion Readiness Initiative' led by Dubai Civil Defense to advance global fire safety awareness
' As a global leader in fire and life safety, NFPA is proud to be part of the Billion Readiness Initiative, the largest of its kind. We are excited to share our expertise to help raise fire safety awareness worldwide. Working alongside Dubai Civil Defense, our goal is to use our knowledge, information, and expertise to create a safer, more resilient future. We achieve this by empowering individuals with the resources and tools they need to prevent fires and protect lives on an unprecedented scale, ' said Dana Kamal, Director, International Business Development, MENA, NFPA.
As part of this initiative, NFPA will continue to collaborate and communicate with governments and regulatory bodies throughout the region to promote its codes and standards, encouraging their use and effective implementation through impactful workshops and training sessions aimed at reducing fire-related incidents and the emissions that they cause. It will also support countries in developing policies that align with the campaign's objectives while addressing emerging risks and technological advancements. In addition to policy adoption, NFPA will encourage subject matter experts to stay updated with code requirements and technical developments in their fields. It will also emphasize the importance of continuous education and qualifications for the skilled workforce, which is a fundamental aspect of the NFPA Fire & Life Safety EcosystemTM.
In addition, NFPA is also a member of the World Fire Emission Reduction Alliance (WFERA), launched at COP28, which aims to reduce global fire-related emissions by 80% by 2050. This unique initiative unites countries and firefighting organizations in a global effort to tackle the environmental impact of fires and improve fire safety worldwide. As part of its broader commitment to fire and life safety, NFPA also works to promote an informed public by sharing important information on fire, electrical, and other related hazards ensuring that people and communities have the knowledge needed to lower risk and enhance safety. Dubai Supreme Council of Energy intensifies inspection campaigns on diesel sector to ensure compliance and safety
Dubai, UAE: As the authority responsible for regulating the trading of petroleum products in Dubai, the Dubai Supreme Council of Energy (DSCE) has intensified inspection campaigns on the gas oil (diesel) sector in Ras Al Khor in Dubai. This comes as part of intensive efforts to ensure public safety and the environment, enhance compliance with local legislation, and combat illegal practices in the circulation of these vital materials. The permanent joint field inspection team, formed according to DSCE Resolution number (1) of 2022, has commenced field inspections and monitoring operations in cooperation with several entities, including the Directorate General of Dubai Civil Defense, the Roads and Transport Authority, Dubai Municipality, the Department of Economy and Tourism, the Ministry of Industry and Advanced Technology, and the Emirates National Oil Company (ENOC). HE Saeed Mohammed Al Tayer, Vice Chairman of Dubai Supreme Council of Energy said: 'These inspection campaigns form an essential part of our continuous efforts to entrench the highest standards of safety and compliance across all vital energy-related activities in the Emirate of Dubai. This aligns with the directives of our wise leadership to ensure secure and transparent trading of petroleum products. Regulating the gas oil (diesel) trading sector is a central pillar of our comprehensive efforts. We work integrally with relevant entities to confront violations that threaten safety or undermine investor and stakeholder confidence. We reaffirm our commitment to providing an operational environment characterized by both efficiency and responsibility, supporting the sustainable development journey of Dubai and the UAE." HE Al Tayer added:"The DSCE seeks to apply the highest standards of security and safety in all diesel trading activities, including transport, storage, and distribution, whether through diesel trading facilities or via transport and distribution tankers. We thank all government entities participating in implementing these campaigns, stressing the continuation of rigorous oversight and coordination with relevant competent government authorities to ensure the application of the standards. This aims to protect individuals, society, and institutions alike by verifying compliance of trading and distribution practices in the petroleum products sectors with the Council's decisions and ensuring the effective implementation of policies regulating petroleum product trading in Dubai." HE Ahmad Buti Al Muhairbi, Secretary General of DSCE and Chairman of Dubai Regulatory Committee for Petroleum Products, emphasised that ensuring compliance with the approved specifications and standards for gas oil (diesel) is one of our top priorities. These inspection campaigns reflect our steadfast commitment to achieving a fair and sustainable business environment and protecting the rights of consumers and law-abiding suppliers. Burhan Al Hashemi, Vice Chairman of the Committee said: ' The most prominent violations uncovered included the storage and trading of diesel in unlicensed and unauthorized facilities, as well as trading, selling, or distributing the product at locations and via transport means that are unlicensed and non-compliant with UAE specifications. He added that these practices could lead to hazardous seepage into soil and groundwater, threatening user safety and the environment. The campaigns aim to curb the use of unlicensed or unauthorized trading locations and means. The Committee and competent government authorities will not hesitate to take legal action against violating entities.'

DoE deploys first vertical Liquefied Petroleum Gas tank system for food establishments in Abu Dhabi
7 Aug 2025 12:14 ABU DHABI (ALETIHAD)The Abu Dhabi Department of Energy (DoE) has implemented the first vertical Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG) tank system for food establishments across the emirate. This system serves as a safer and more efficient alternative to the traditional use of LPG cylinders. It features a vertical tank with a capacity of up to 125 gallons, equipped with an explosion-proof vaporiser, and is refilled directly on site by licensed operators, eliminating the need for storing or handling gas innovative approach significantly reduces the risks of leaks and incidents, simplifies operational processes, and marks a key regulatory step toward elevating safety standards in the food sector. In this context, the DoE issued Technical Bulletin No. (1/2025), outlining the technical requirements, safety standards, and regulatory conditions for the installation of such tanks in accordance with NFPA standards and the UAE Fire and Life Safety Saif Saeed Al Qubaisi, Acting Director General for Regulatory Affairs at DoE, said that this initiative reflects the department's commitment to protecting individuals and communities by ensuring a safe operational environment for food establishments. He highlighted the vital role of gas as an essential energy source for the Ahmed Al Sheebani, Executive Director of the Petroleum Products Regulatory Affairs Sector at DoE, said that the project aims to establish a safer and more sustainable system, enabling food establishments to operate with confidence and reliability while serving customers in line with international best practices. He also noted the department's collaboration with licensed private sector operators for the approval and implementation of the system to the highest standards. The DoE called on all food establishments, especially those in areas without access to underground gas networks or centralised LPG systems, to adopt this modern and integrated solution, which ensures compliance with current and future regulatory requirements. UAE showcases its efforts in driving energy transition during G20 meetings in South Africa
