River Plate ease into Argentine quarters
Paulo Diaz gave River an early advantage when he fired home from close range in the 12th minute and they doubled their lead two minutes before the break when Franco Mastantuono set up Ignacio Fernandez to score.
Fernandez said he was glad to be back in the side.
"I was back as a starter, and I took it in stride, eager to keep improving," told TNT. "No one likes to be out, but when it's my turn, I try to do my part and make the most of the moment.
"We know that sometimes it's your turn and sometimes it's not but you have to stick with it and support the team because, at the end of the day, if one person does well everyone does well," he added.
Marcelo Gallardo's side continued to dominate after the break and thought they had scored the third when Mastantuono set up Fabricio Bustos following a swift counter-attack.
However, the goal was disallowed following a VAR review due to a foul by Kevin Castano on Barracas midfielder Dardo Miloc.
"I think Kevin got the ball back well and Miloc let himself fall, lost the ball and stayed there protesting," River midfielder Enzo Perez said.
"The referee made the decision and I told him it was a clean challenge and that we got the ball back, but these are quick decisions and there's nothing you can do about it."
Next it was Barracas' turn to have a goal ruled out when Facundo Bruera headed in Rodrigo Insua's free kick but it was called back for offside.
Marcos Acuna finally added River's third with a superb long-range shot in the closing minutes to set up a meeting with Platense in the next round.

River Plate ease past Urawa to start Club World Cup tilt
River Plate overcame a spirited Urawa Red Diamonds 3-1 on Tuesday to make a strong start in Club World Cup Group E. The Argentine side overpowered their Japanese opponents at Lumen Field under the Seattle sun, in an entertaining battle. Under 12,000 fans attended the clash at the 69,000-capacity stadium but those who were there, many travelling from Japan and Argentina, created a vibrant atmosphere at both ends of the stadium. "Thanks to all River fans, we knew it wasn't going to be easy to get all the way to here, it's a very long journey, there's no direct flights," said striker Facundo Colidio, who opened the scoring for River Plate. "Nevertheless they made it, they were here and they were amazing with their support throughout the game... "The venue was really tricky, it's not close to Argentina." All six South American teams that have played in the expanded Club World Cup thus far have stayed undefeated. Marcelo Gallardo's River started the stronger and took the lead when Colidio powered a header home from former Sevilla defender Marcos Acuna's cross. The Red Diamonds played their way into the match and River goalkeeper Franco Armani was forced into an excellent save from Yusuke Matsuo, although he was offside. Maximiliano Meza put the game to bed for River with a header from Acuna's corner after he was left unmarked. "Unfortunately we lost today but we're going to learn a lot and take that into the next match," said Matsuo. Polish Urawa coach Maciej Skorza was unhappy with the defeat. Real Madrid sign Argentina teenager Mastantuono on six-year deal
Real Madrid have signed 17-year-old midfielder Franco Mastantuono from Argentine side River Plate on a six-year contract, the LaLiga club said on Friday. The Spanish outfit had agreed to sign Mastantuono for about $45 million last week and the talented teenager, who can also play on the wing, will be a Real Madrid player from August 14. Having come through River Plate's youth system, Mastantuono was part of the first team in the 2024-25 season. In February last year, he becane the youngest scorer in River's history. He also became the youngest at 17 to play an official match for Argentina when he featured in their World Cup qualifier against Chile last week. Mastantuono had been linked to top European clubs such as Manchester United and Paris St Germain after a stunning free kick in River Plate's Superclasico win over Boca Juniors in April put him on the map. Mastantuono is Real's third close-season recruit after they signed Premier League defenders Dean Huijsen and Trent Alexander-Arnold.
