Morocco Eyes 500% Growth in Franchise Sector by 2030
Rabat – Franchising is not just a business model, it is an engine of economic growth and innovation, job creation, and international influence for Morocco, Industry and Trade Minister Ryad Mezzour stated on Wednesday in Casablanca.
Speaking at the launch of the Morocco Franchise Exhibition 2025, Mezzour explained that investment in recognized brands and structured entrepreneurship creates new jobs and increases Morocco's economic power.
'This model paves the way for economic development when approached with a clear and strategic vision,' he said. He called for a stronger commercial ecosystem, where businesses operate with ambition and efficiency.
Mezzour depicted franchising as a transfer of expertise and a business model that enables small-time businessmen with limited financial resources to establish successful businesses.
Unlike other heavily regulated sectors, he went on to explain, franchising has no universal legal framework, except for China and Italy.
'Each country must tailor its own financing and support mechanisms to help young entrepreneurs thrive in this sector,' Mezzour argued. Choosing the right partner, concept, and location determines the profitability and long-term success of a franchise network, he added.
Morocco's potential in franchising
Hassan Berkani, president of the Casablanca-Settat Chamber of Commerce, Industry, and Services, underlined the role of franchising in integrating the informal sector into a structured economy.
He pointed to Morocco's free trade treaties with the EU and the US, which make the country a prime destination for international brands.
He further noted the necessity of inciting Moroccan investors to adopt the franchise system which provides a professional environment and exposure to established business methods.
'Young investors benefit from recognized brands, operational expertise, and optimized management structures,' he said.
Meanwhile, the US Consul General in Casablanca, Marissa Scott, called Morocco an ideal market for American franchises.
'Several US brands have already expanded successfully in Morocco,' she said, noting that partnerships between American franchises and Moroccan entrepreneurs are contributing to the creation of jobs as well as building economic cooperation between the two countries.
Franchising is an effective means of business development as growing demand for global products and services emerge, Scott explained.
The Morocco Franchise Exhibition 2025, taking place from February 12 to 14, welcomes over 100 exhibitors from different sectors. The exhibition features expert-led discussions on franchise growth, financing options, and African market potential.
Moroccan franchising has grown 25% annually on average over the past 15 years, with 745 franchise networks representing 84% of international ones reaching a total turnover of MAD 20 billion.

Spain Invests €481 million in Imports of Morocco's Fruits and Vegetables in Q1
Rabat – Spain imported 188,076 tons of fruits and vegetables from Morocco in the first quarter of 2025, spending a total of € 481 million. The produce imported from Morocco has increased in volume by 24% and in value by 23% compared to the same period last year, according to new data from the agriculture-focused website FreshPlaza. The same source forecasts a continuous trend in the import of Morocco's goods to Spain, citing data from Fepex, which detailed that the import volume of Moroccan goods to Spanish shelves increased in volume by 20% in the last five years. This means that the imports went from 156,229 tons in January to March of 2021 to 188,076 tons within the same period in 2025. The value also increased by 54%, from €311 million to € 481 million. Tomatoes top the list of Moroccan produce imported by Spain, followed by pepper and green beans. General vegetable exports went from 24,118 tons in the first quarter of 2024 to 32,313 tons in the same period in 2025. This represents a 34% increase. Moroccan tomato imports have led to a displacement of Spanish tomatoes. This is partially because the entry prices, established in the EU's Association Agreement with Morocco, have become obsolete – not fulfilling their function of protecting the EU market – and therefore boosting imports. Several reports have highlighted Morocco's leadership in tomato exports, a market that now spans 6 countries, with the UK alone representing 18% of the total. Demand for Morocco's produce, however, has been met with backlash and frustration from European producers. Several videos have surfaced online, showing trucks loading Moroccan vegetables and fruits vandalized by European farmers in different countries, especially France and Spain. Morocco Receives First Oshkosh M-ATV Armored Vehicles for Desert Units
Doha – The Royal Armed Forces (FAR) have recently taken delivery of their first fleet of M-ATV Standard Base (SXB) tactical armored vehicles manufactured by the American company Oshkosh Defense. These vehicles are specifically designed to equip ground forces deployed in the Saharan and eastern regions of the country. According to converging reports, the port of Casablanca received a special shipment, with the vehicles appearing in recent pictures circulating across military forums. The armored vehicles combine mobility, ballistic protection, and operational capability in asymmetric environments. The delivery is part of the Special Defense Acquisition Fund (SDAF) established by the Pentagon and the US State Department to finance the purchase of defense equipment and services for transfer to allied partners and international organizations. The M-ATV vehicles, in service with the US Army since 2009, are equipped with Plasan composite armor compliant with STANAG 4569 level 4/3b/4 standards, providing effective resistance against 14.5 mm caliber fire, 8-kilogram anti-tank mines, and artillery fragments at a distance of 30 meters. These protection features ensure crew safety in high-risk contexts, particularly during operations in unstable areas. Each of these vehicles can be equipped with 7.62 mm M240 machine guns, 12.7 mm M2 heavy machine guns, 40 mm Mk19 automatic grenade launchers, or BGM-71 TOW anti-tank missile launchers. This weapons diversity allows field units to adapt to different threats and engage various targets effectively. Under the hood, the Caterpillar C7 turbocharged diesel engine delivers 370 horsepower, coupled with an Allison 3500SP six-speed automatic transmission. The Oshkosh TAK-4 independent suspension, combined with a robust design, allows these armored vehicles to reach a maximum speed of 105 km/h on roads while ensuring excellent maneuverability on rough terrain. In parallel, Morocco has also ordered HET A1 heavy logistics tractors equipped with specialized 635NL trailers, with delivery expected from summer 2025. Designed for moving oversized military equipment, these heavy transport vehicles are powered by a 700-horsepower Caterpillar C18 engine and feature a robust transmission system. 'We are proud to support the Kingdom in structuring its logistics capabilities by providing high-tonnage tractors for transporting the heaviest equipment,' Pat Williams, Oshkosh Defense's program director, said at the time of the official announcement in September 2024. 'This order reflects the confidence in our expertise in tactical mobility and advanced ground support.' The HET A1 tractors are equipped with two high-capacity winches, each capable of pulling nearly 25 tons, and benefit from advanced suspension and modular protections according to the Long-Term Armor Strategy (LTAS) doctrine. These features guarantee the safety of equipment and crews, even in hostile and complex environments. The M-ATV SXB version received by the FAR is the basic variant, while a distinct model intended for special forces—designated M-ATV SXF—is characterized by several structural differences not yet included in the contracts notified to Morocco.
