Scott Speedman To Headline ‘RJ Decker' ABC Pilot As He Eyes ‘Grey's Anatomy' Return
The casting expands Speedman's existing relationship with ABC and 20th TV through his role as Nick Marsh on Grey's Anatomy. He has been recurring on the ABC/20th TV medical drama after a Season 18 series-regular stint. The RJ Decker casting is not expected to impact that, and I hear the plan is for him to be able to do both should the pilot go to series.

RJ Decker centers on the eponymous RJ Decker (Speedman), a disgraced newspaper photographer and ex-con who starts over as a private investigator in the colorful-if-crime-filled world of Carl Hiaasen's South Florida. He tackles cases that range from slightly odd to outright bizarre with the help of his journalist ex, her police detective wife and a shadowy new benefactor — a woman from his past who could be his greatest ally … or his one-way ticket back to prison.

Speedman's RJ Decker is described as someone who has charm to spare and the owner of a short fuse and a restless soul.
Doherty executive produces the pilot alongside Carl Beverly and Sarah Timberman of Timberman-Beverly Productions as well as McGuigan and Hiaasen. 20th Television is the studio.
I hear Speedman likely would segue to filming appearances on the upcoming 22nd season of Grey's Anatomy after wrapping RJ Decker. At the time of the Season 21 finale in May, Deadline asked Grey's Anatomy executive producer/showrunner Meg Marinis whether Speedman would be back next season.
'Obviously, deals haven't been made yet, but we love Scott, and his character Nick and Meredith are still together,' she said of one of the show's most popular couples, played by Speedman and Grey's star Ellen Pompeo. 'He was also at the star ceremony supporting Ellen, so it was really great to see. Oh, and the fans were so excited to see him there with her.'
RJ Decker is the only pilot ordered by ABC in 2025 so far. Greenlighted in May for midseason 2026 consideration, it feels like a good fit for crime shows with a light tone — and a singular lead — on the network such as High Potential, The Rookie and Will Trent.
Felicity alum Speedman most recently starred in the Peacock horror series Teacup. He previously was a lead in the TNT drama series Animal Kingdom and had a major recurring role on Season 3 of Netflix's You. In features, he is known for his work in the Underworld franchise. Speedman is repped by CAA, Untitled Entertainment and Johnson Shapiro Slewett & Kole.

Scott played a pivotal role on the ABC soap for decades. However, over the past several years, the character has often disappeared off-screen without any explanation. That was the case when Scott was embroiled in helping Ava (Maura West) switch out Sonny's (Maurice Benard) bipolar medication, but suddenly went out for snacks and never came last time Scott was on-screen was in August 2024, and it appears that's the end of the run for Shriner. Shriner took to X to reveal that his dressing room at General Hospital has been given to Jens Austin Astrup, who plays Kai on the daytime drama. Trump and Jimmy Kimmel are trading barbs after Stephen Colbert's cancellation
President Donald Trump and Jimmy Kimmel traded shots after CBS canceled Stephen Colbert's show. Trump targeted Kimmel and Jimmy Fallon, saying they'd be next to go and have "absolutely NO TALENT." Kimmel snapped back with a reference to reporting about Trump and Jeffrey Epstein. Stephen Colbert's canceled, President Trump is on the attack, and Jimmy Kimmel is hitting back. Trump said Tuesday in a Truth Social post that ABC's Kimmel and Jimmy Fallon, host of NBC's "Tonight Show," would be "NEXT to go" after CBS declined to renew Colbert's contract. "The word is, and it's a strong word at that, Jimmy Kimmel is NEXT to go in the untalented Late Night Sweepstakes and, shortly thereafter, Fallon will be gone," Trump wrote. The president slammed Kimmel and Fallon as having "absolutely NO TALENT" and even blamed them for "destroying what used to be GREAT Television." Kimmel clapped back an hour later on Instagram by alluding to The Wall Street Journal's reporting on Trump and disgraced financier and sex criminal Jeffrey Epstein, who died in prison in 2019. The Journal reported that a letter bearing Trump's name was given to Epstein as part of a book created for his birthday in 2003. In an interview with the Journal, Trump denied writing the letter or drawing the picture, saying, "I never wrote a picture in my life. I don't draw pictures of women," and "It's not my language. It's not my words." Trump has since sued the Journal over the story, alleging defamation. "I'm hearing you're next. Or maybe it's just another wonderful secret," Kimmel wrote in the Instagram post, which featured a screenshot of Trump's post about him. The Journal reported that the letter bearing Trump's name said: "Happy Birthday — and may every day be another wonderful secret." Kimmel, Fallon, and spokespeople for ABC, NBC, and CBS didn't immediately respond to requests for comment. Colbert's cancellation has drawn scrutiny for its timing, as CBS's parent company, Paramount Global, needs FCC approval for an acquisition by Skydance. This month, Paramount said it had agreed to pay Trump a $16 million settlement. Trump had sued CBS, alleging "60 Minutes" had deceptively edited an interview with Kamala Harris during the presidential campaign. CBS has said that the decision not to renew Colbert's show was "purely a financial decision." Colbert's show was losing roughly $40 million per year, Reuters reported. And as BI's Peter Kafka wrote, the TV business, including late-night, is "very much challenged." Hosts and others in the entertainment community have been sounding off and standing up for Colbert after CBS declined to renew his show when his contract expires in mid-2026. "I don't like it. I don't like what's going on one bit — these are crazy times," Fallon said in reference to the Colbert cancellation to open his show on Monday night. Jon Stewart also blasted CBS's decision during an expletive-filled monologue on Monday's "The Daily Show." "When your industry is faced with changes, you don't just call it a day. My God, when CDs stopped selling, they didn't just go, 'Oh well, music, it's been a good run,'" Stewart said. Stewart and Colbert's shows share a parent company in Paramount.
