North Texas restaurant names pizza after No. 1 draft pick Cooper Flagg, topped with his favorites

New era begins as Mavs and their fans celebrate Cooper Flagg pick New era begins as Mavs and their fans celebrate Cooper Flagg pick New era begins as Mavs and their fans celebrate Cooper Flagg pick The Mavericks' No. 1 draft pick, Cooper Flagg, is on his way to Dallas and one restaurant is welcoming him with a mix of his favorite things. Motor City Pizza, located off I-35E and Justin Road in Lewisville, introduced The Cooper Flagg Pizza ahead of the draft. After doing some research, the pizzeria said the No. 1 draft pick's favorite food is a chicken bacon ranch steak melt sandwich. So, they turned it into a pizza on June 25. The pizza is a Detroit-style pie with ranch, red bell peppers, bacon and chicken, topped with mixed greens. According to the restaurant's website, The Cooper Flagg Pizza starts at $16.95. To wash it down, Bedford's Turning Point Brewery created a beer inspired by his favorite drink – blue Gatorade – although 18-year-old Flagg won't be able to enjoy it. Motor City did not say how long the pizza will be available. Flagg joins a roster stacked with No. 1 picks The 6-foot-8 forward led the Blue Devils in all five major statistical categories, and has already proven his game can hold up against the pros when he played well last summer during an invite to the U.S. Olympic team's training camp. Flagg will join a Mavericks roster already loaded with talent, including forward Anthony Davis and guard Kyrie Irving, who has reportedly signed a new 3-year contract with Dallas. Flagg will wear No. 32 for the Mavericks.

Former UNC football star praised by ESPN, his OC ahead of rookie NFL season

Will Omarion Hampton be the next UNC football star in the NFL? Ashton Jeanty stole headlines over the past two college football seasons, but right behind him was another star-studded running back in Chapel Hill: Omarion Hampton. Starting 2023 behind British Brooks on UNC's depth chart, Hampton became the full-time starter by Week 3. Hampton formed a deadly offensive duo with Drake Maye during 2023, forcing opposing defenses to choose how they'd slow the Tar Heel stars down, then Hampton became the feature of North Carolina's offense in 2024. With a distinguished college career that included 3,565 rushing yards 36 rushing touchdowns, Hampton's NFL suitors quickly took notice. The Los Angeles Chargers selected Hampton with this year's 22nd overall pick, pairing him with offseason acquisition Najee Harris. Through roughly two months of offseason activities, Hampton is proving to be plenty worthy of his draft selection. Check out what ESPN and Hampton's offensive coordinator, Greg Roman, said about the rookie back from Chapel Hill: "Hampton has been the talk of the Chargers' offseason activities, for his play on the field and his physical stature," ESPN's Kris Rihm wrote. "At Hampton's introductory news conference, coach Jim Harbaugh jokingly grabbed his 6-foot, 221-pound rookie by the shoulders and said to reporters, "That looks like a football player, right?" "He's the total package," offensive coordinator Greg Roman said. "You don't see a lot of guys find a hole like he's doing right now." Harris should be LA's Day One starter, rushing for over 1,000 yards in each of his first four NFL seasons, but Hampton could form an unstoppable 1-2 punch with his new backfield mate. Hornets draft pick Kon Knueppel calls entering NBA 'blessing from God'

Kon Knueppel heard his name called fairly early during the NBA Draft on Wednesday night. The Charlotte Hornets selected the former Duke Blue Devils star with the No. 4 pick. He went three picks after his teammate, Cooper Flagg, was taken No. 1 by the Dallas Mavericks. Knueppel was with his brothers as he spoke to ESPN following the selection and praised the Lord for being able to turn professional. "I mean it's such a blessing from God to be able to enter the NBA, but to be able to share it with your family is beyond comprehension. It's such a special moment for us and for me," he said. Kash Knueppel was one of Kon's four brothers who was with him on draft night. He was asked to hype up his brother. "It's awesome. It's a blessing from God. He'll have fun – every minute of it. It'll be awesome to watch him from home," he said. Kon Knuppel briefly mentioned his Christian faith in an interview with Rivals in February 2023. He said it was a big reason why he was considering Virginia at the time before he ultimately decided to join Duke. Tony Bennett was the head coach of the Cavaliers at the time. "I've told a couple of people this, but when I went on my visit there, coach (Tony) Bennett said that he wanted me to know that Virginia is a faith-based program," he said at the time. "That's something that's stuck with me, being a Christian. "That's something that's really important to me, so that was awesome to hear and something I don't always hear. They've also got a great, great program. They've been the best in the ACC for a long time now." Knueppel played one season at Duke. He averaged 14.4 points and 4 rebounds per game.
