Pune: President of
Swabhimani Shetkari Sanghatna
Raju Shetti
on Tuesday accused the govt of abandoning farmers while they were in distress. He claimed that eight farmers die by suicide in the state daily because of the govt's failure to provide any relief it promised.
He warned that the entry of Mahayuti ministers would be stopped in rural parts of the state if the govt did not announce any compensation for farmers. Many parts of the state have been witnessing unseasonal rain of late, causing significant damage to many crops and adding to farmers' woes. Shetti said, "Farmers invested a lot in vegetables and fruits like mango, grapes and banana, but they incurred huge losses because of unseasonal rain. The govt has not taken any proactive measures such as carrying out panchnama of their farms and announcing compensation."The farmers' leader also accused the Mahayuti govt of betraying the farming community. Shetti said, "During the election campaign, the members of Mahayuti made tall promises such as
farm loan waiver
, better prices and other facilities.
After coming to power, they have taken a complete U-turn by denying loan waiver and scrapping the crop insurance scheme."He said, "The soybean farmers incurred a loss of Rs15,000 crore in a year. Even the cotton farmers are facing similar problems. While the govt has abandoned the community, nearly eight farmers die by suicide in the state every day. Therefore, we have decided to organise a statewide agitation.
Even if we are compelled to take the law into our own hands, we are ready to do so, but we will stop all the ministers from entering rural parts soon." Even Congress has criticised the state and central govts for neglecting the farmers' issues. Senior member of the party, Vijay Wadettiwar, said, "While Maharashtra is a major contributor to GST, the central govt is doing injustice to the state by not giving enough funds. The Mahayuti has failed to get any relief for farmers from the Centre despite BJP being in the govt at both the Centre and the state." Official work in Hindi, says Haryana education min — ‘I myself do not know English'

Gurgaon: Haryana education minister Mahipal Dhanda has directed his department to conduct all official work in Hindi. "I myself do not know English, and 90% of the people in our state are far from (understanding) English. Therefore, so that people can understand official work, I have ordered all work in the education department to be done in Hindi," the minister said at a press conference in Kurukshetra on Thursday. The announcement was made days after the directorate of higher education issued an order on June 10, saying all official correspondence "must henceforth be presented in Hindi". It also specified that any communication to the education minister and the additional chief secretary (education) should be in Hindi as well. Until now, the state education department had the option to use both Hindi and English. Calling Hindi the "rastrabhasha (national language)", Dhanda said that this policy is not "anti-English". "We are not enemies of English... We are not in favour of stopping English. Knowledge of other languages is also necessary. English-medium schools are still being opened in the state. For me, language is mainly to acquire knowledge, rather than becoming a barrier in practical work," the minister said. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Buy Brass Idols - Handmade Brass Statues for Home & Gifting Luxeartisanship Buy Now Undo The Indian Constitution does not name any "national language", and both Hindi and English are recognised as "official languages". Dhanda on Wednesday pointed out that the policy is only for official communication and it is not related to academics. "What's the problem in this (policy)? It's a mode of communication, do it in any language... Hindi is better understood by people," a senior education department official in Panchkula said. Dushyant Thakran, a school teacher in Gurgaon, questioned if the policy would make any difference. "Schools are already focused on teaching children English," he said. Before this, controversy has erupted on the implementation of central govt's NEP, which pushes for a "three-language formula". Tamil Nadu govt has accused the Centre of trying to impose Hindi on the state, though the BJP govt has denied the charge as an unnecessary controversy. The minister was in Srinagar to highlight and celebrate the achievements of the Narendra Modi-led NDA government, which completed 11 years this month. He also held a meeting along with J&K CM Omar Abdullah related to the power and housing projects of the state. NHPC and companies from here are doing great work. And now Indus Waters Treaty is in abeyance, we will increase the capacity of ongoing (hydropower) projects and explore the possibility of starting new (hydropower) projects as well," said Khattar."A project was conceived in 1981 around Wular Lake, but they (Pakistan) didn't give the permission and there was no consensus and we had to abandon the project," said Khattar.

2 lakh cyberattacks on power units foiled during Operation Sindoor: Union minister Manohar Lal Khattar

File photo: Union power minister Manohar Lal Khattar (ANI) SRINAGAR: India thwarted nearly 2 lakh cyberattacks targeting its power sector during Operation Sindoor last month, Union power minister Manohar Lal Khattar said Thursday in the first official govt confirmation of the scale of such onslaughts. 'With the advancement of technology, cyberattacks and cybercrimes have increased significantly. A lot of progress has been made in countering them and our cybersecurity has virtually neutralised such threats,' Khattar said. He added that a power line in Uri hydel project had suffered damage due to Pakistani shelling but the link was promptly repaired. Khattar was speaking at a news conference in Srinagar, dwelling on a range of topics, from the Pahalgam attack and water treaties with Pakistan to a debate on ideal energy-saving AC temperatures. On Indus Waters Treaty , which the Centre has kept in abeyance, Khattar said the current situation allows India to move ahead with stalled power projects that previously required Pakistani consent. Asked about Pakistan's warning of 'dangerous consequences' if water flows in rivers under the treaty were altered, Khattar said: 'Pakistan was already given a reply during Operation Sindoor. If needed, a stronger response will follow.' by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Buy Brass Idols - Handmade Brass Statues for Home & Gifting Luxeartisanship Buy Now Undo Under the treaty, India had to previously seek Pakistan's approval before undertaking projects on Indus, Jhelum and Chenab. 'Now, we don't need it. We are restarting the Wullar Barrage project,' Khattar announced. The Centre had started the project in the 1980s to regulate water levels in Kashmir in winter, when river flows thin, but work was suspended in 1987 after Pakistan objected before Indus Waters Commission. On the April 22 Pahalgam attack, Khattar pointed out that while Pakistan had been supporting terrorists, the Centre was now resolute on not allowing terror. 'Terrorism will definitely end. I would like to congratulate the people of J&K as they have stood together against terrorism,' he said. Asked about calls from CPI(M) for a dialogue with Pakistan, Khattar ruled out such moves. 'Terror and talk will not go together. Terror and trade will not go together. Water and blood will not flow together,' Khattar said. The power minister then switched to the raging debate on AC temperatures. He justified his ministry's plan to ensure AC temperatures are not reduced below 20 degrees Celsius, citing energy efficiency goals worldwide and medical opinion about 24 degrees being the ideal temperature.
