Next Thursday is first day of Muharram and first day of new Hijri year: Qatar Calendar House
Eng Faisal Al Ansari, Executive Director of Sheikh Abdullah Al Ansari Complex, stated that the crescent of the month of Muharram for the year 1447 AH will be born on Wednesday, corresponding to June 25 (the day of investigation), at 1:32pm Doha local time (10:14am GMT).
He added that the Muharram crescent will set 20 minutes after sunset on the day of sighting (Wednesday, June 25) in the skies of Qatar, and that this period will increase the further west we go.
It is worth noting that it is an astronomical constant that the movement of the moon in its orbit around the Earth determines the beginning and end of the Hijri months, while the movement of the Earth in its orbit around the sun determines the beginning and end of the Gregorian months.

DPA Moscow All 49 passengers and crew aboard a Russian Antonov An-24 were killed when the plane crashed on Thursday in the country's Far East, authorities said, with recovery efforts ongoing in the inhospitable region near the Chinese border. The helicopter was unable to land in the terrain of Moor and Taiga, and rescue workers were reported to be struggling to reach the scene some 15 kilometres away from Tynda some 5,000 kilometres from Moscow. Governor Vasily Orlov had said there were 49 people on board the aircraft, while rescue services had reported 46 An-24 is one of the oldest passenger planes still in operation, with series production starting in 1962. Almost 60 of the more than 1,300 built up to 1979 are still in service, most in Russia, but also in Kazakhstan, North Korea and Ukraine. 20 dead as B'desh military jet crashes into Dhaka school
DPA Dhaka The death toll from the crash of a Bangladesh Air Force training jet onto a school in Dhaka has risen to 20, mostly children, officials said on Monday, as the country's leader described it as a day of 'profound grief.' Many others who suffered severe burn injuries were receiving treatment in hospital. The Chinese-made F-7BGI fighter jet crashed into the two-storey Milestone School and College in the north of the capital. At the time of the crash many children were still present at the school, which teaches children from elementary up to 12th grade. The crash occurred minutes after the plane took off, according to the Bangladesh military's media division. It said that the pilot of the training aircraft noticed a technical malfunction soon after it took off from Dhaka's Kurmitola airbase at 1:06 pm (0706 GMT) and tried to fly to a thinly populated area. The army said 20 people were killed, including the pilot, and 171 people were injured. Sayedur Rahman, an assistant to the head of the interim government, Muhammad Yunus, said that many of the injured were taken to the Burn and Plastic Surgery Institute in Dhaka. He said more than 100 people were undergoing treatment at different hospitals. The government announced a day of national mourning on Tuesday to pay respect to those who died.
