Days of Our Lives Recap: Sarah Chokes on Chanel's Sweet Bits

Yahoo09-05-2025

On today's Days of Our Lives recap:
Horton Square: Cat and Chad meet up and discuss Felicity. Chad tells her about the discussion with EJ and says he cancelled her date with his brother. She notes how weird it is that EJ bid on her when he's already seeing Belle. Chad says since he awakened from his coma, his brother claims to be a more generous and patient person. She remains curious as to why someone would throw that much money around. Chad says he offered to reimburse his brother and Cat wonders why. Chad says he doesn't think she should be indebted to EJ. They resolved the situation by EJ giving the date to Chad.
Cat is somewhat tickled Chad wants to go on a date with her. He understands it will be weird but notes they are now friends, and they should be cool. With that, they both agree to the date.
Paulina and Abe's Apartment: Abe asks how he feels about their new place (it's new?) and she says she can't believe how quickly they unpacked. He notices Chanel seems off and she says she's had trouble sleeping. Abe says how sorry he is about the adoption falling through. He says he knows exactly how she feels.
Abe relays how he and Lexie raised Isaac as their own for two years before they had to return him to his biological parents. Chanel notes he and Lexie were able to get past it which leads Abe to note how they were sent Theo, who helped heal their hearts. Chanel thanks him for sharing but says Johnny has lost his desire to be a father which makes a miracle baby impossible. Further, she's not even sure she and Johnny will be able to find their way back to each other.
Chanel can't understand why Johnny didn't come to her when he was having so many doubts. Why would he possibly call off the adoption without even consulting her? Abe agrees Johnny didn't handle the situation well but thinks he would actually agree with that assessment. Chanel has an epiphany when she compares Lexie to Johnny. Lexie went off a cliff when they lost Isaac and thinks the same thing happened to Johnny when EJ was shot. Abe wonders if Chanel is considering the possibility Johnny shot his father. Chanel recalls Johnny saying he wishes his father died and how long he was gone the night of the shooting. She wonders what she should do and Abe says to talk to Johnny to see if he can help ease her mind. With that, they embrace and Chanel heads off to work.
Titan – Xander's Office: Johnny arrives to see Xander, and they chat about his time at the Salem Inn. Xander wonders if he has considered his offer. Johnny wants to know why Xander is interested in hiring someone with limited corporate experience. Xander says he knows Johnny is capable and thinks having a respectable DiMera around will help with the recent takeover. Johnny is skeptical and pushes for any other reason for the offer, such as using him to get back at EJ. Johnny thinks sticking it to his father makes the offer even more attractive. He asks what his job will be and Xander simply says he will be a valued employe and they will be glad to have him. Johnny agrees to consider the offer and the two men part ways.
University Hospital – Kayla's Office: Kayla walks in and finds EJ behind her desk. He says they have some unfinished business. He wanted to give her another chance to accept his offer to buy the hospital before he goes to the board. Kayla is well aware of the DiMera's donations to the hospital and also knows there are always strings attached. She will not be responsible for the DiMera family taking control of the hospital that is Tom and Alice Horton's legacy. EJ says her self-righteous stand will not prevent him from owning the hospital. With that, he exits.
Sarah arrives and says she was checking on patients before heading out of town with her family. She mentions a specific patient and asks her to keep an eye on him. Sarah asks who she sent to the conference in her place and Kayla says it was Dr Russell. Afterwards, Kayla mentions EJ's offer to buy the hospital and how she turned him down.
Sarah hesitates and then says she understands the difficult history with the DiMera family. Kayla wonders if she thinks she made the wrong decision. Sarah does like the idea of the hospital being saved but says she is Chief of Staff which makes it her call to make (that's not at all true). Sarah says if EJ wants to buy something he thinks it's a good investment. If that's true, there must be other buyers.
University Hospital – Lobby: EJ runs into Marlena and is annoyed by Kayla. EJ launches into his further irritation with Johnny still not giving him the time of day. Marlena pushes and EJ says he doesn't know how he can continue trying to evolve when everyone is so skeptical of his efforts. Marlena reminds him how many people he has hurt in the past. If he wants people to think better of him, he needs to be patient. If EJ continues his efforts, people will come around.
Marlena says Belle thinks EJ's desire to change is genuine which makes her thinks he has hope. EJ appreciates her faith in him. He goes on to say how grateful he is to have Belle in his life and how much he cares for her. The connection worries Marlena as she knows what happens to people, he cares about. She asks if he loves Belle. He says how much he cares for her and says she is in good hands. Marlena worries about Belle based on what happened between EJ and Samantha Gene.
EJ asks about Johnny and Marlena says she is having lunch with him today and will ask her grandson to contact him. She knows how much Johnny is carrying and worries what he might do next, with that, EJ flashes back to Johnny confronting him with a gun. In real-time, Marlena asks if EJ is ok. He lies and quickly makes his exit.
Sarah arrives and tells Marlena she is doing one last round with her patients before she and Xander head out of town. Marlena thinks she and Xander have earned some time away.
Horton Square: Johnny walks up, and Cat leaves him and Chad alone to chat. Chad asks about Johnny patching things up with EJ, but he's not interested. He goes off about all the horrible things his father did just as Cat returns.
DiMera Mansion – Outside: EJ returns home and meets up with Dr Russell. He says Kayla declined his offer but promises they will win the war. EJ heads in and Dr Russell gets a call from Xander. He mentions his work on the sepsis drug and Dr Russell says it still belongs to University Hospital. Xander says he has an offer for the good doctor and to look out for his next call.
Brady Pub: Johnny and Marlena enjoy breakfast, and he chats about his most recent connection with Chanel. Marlena encourages the communication and says he is going to have to do more work on himself, including talking to his father.
Horton Square: Sarah meets up with Xander and he learns Dr Russell took her place at the conference. They chat a bit more and Sarah mentions EJ's offer to buy the hospital and how she turned him down. Sarah heads off and Xander calls Alex to move on the purchase of University Hospital ASAP.
Endings
Kayla calls Steve and says Dr Russell is out of town and notes it's time to get down to business. Kayla tells him to be careful and says she loves him.
Johnny gets why his grandmother wants him to talk to his father and promises to consider it. She appreciates it and says she also thinks he needs to speak with a professional about his feelings. He agrees he has some big decisions to make and tells her about the job offer from Xander. Marlena is confused as to why he is considering the offer and he says maybe it's time to settle down and get a 'real' job. He wants to prove to Chanel he can be the husband she needs him to be. He also agrees to see a therapist and his grandmother agrees to text him some names. Just then, EJ walks in and Marlena makes her exit.
Chanel arrives in the square and runs into Sarah and Xander. They discuss their upcoming trip, and she offers to get them some sweet bits to enjoy.
Cat and Chad discuss possibilities for their date. They go back and forth, and they settle on wine and a nice time down by the river.
Sarah bites into her treat from Sweet Bits and immediately senses something is wrong. She begins to choke and Xander screams for someone to call 911.

Days of Our Lives Recap: John Black's Funeral Concludes

Days of Our Lives Recap: John Black's Funeral Concludes originally appeared on Daytime Confidential. On today's Days of Our Lives recap: Part Three: John's Funeral: Eric walks back to the podium and says he maintained a strong connection to John even after he discovered they weren't father, and son can be somewhat attributed to their devotion to God. He says John was a mentor for all the kids. Presiding over John's service is both the hardest thing he's ever had to do and one of the great privileges of his life. With that, he kisses his family. Hospital: Bo is beside himself because he's not at John's services. Hope says the funeral has already started but Bo says he must be there. Hope thinks John wouldn't want him to leave before he's completely healed. If something happens to him, John's sacrifice is all for nought. John's Funeral: Eric retakes the podium and says his twin sister wanted to be there but is in attendance virtually. She sent a message for him to read. She writes how she always thought John ruined her life and family. However, she now knows how much she saved them. She thinks John was actually one of the best things that ever happened to her. Sami knows she was a bit of a nightmare but thanks John for loving her mother, her family and her. She apologizes for all the times she let her pride, and her ego get in the way of thanking him for all he meant to her. Sami says she loves John and already misses him. Carrie hugs Eric and takes the podium. She talks about how John and Marlena helped blend their family and made each child feel loved and cherished. John was like a father to her being loving and attentive no matter how busy he was. She references John and Marlena's wedding in 1999 and how they had each child present a different flower to represent how they were all a part of a larger garden. They want to recreate that ritual today. Hospital: Bo promises he wouldn't risk their future by leaving the hospital if he wasn't certain he could do it. He must be there for John just like he has always been there for them. Hope agrees to get the car but only if he promises to let her know if he feels the least bit off. Bo hugs his fancy face and thanks her. John's Funeral: Carrie notes Sami has given Paul permission to act in place of her in her absence. With that, all the 'children' rise and move towards the front. Flashback: John and Marlena's 1999 wedding and the ceremony Carrie just referenced. Belle is their daisy who brightens them up with their smile. Brady is their sunflower who is bold and adventurous. Sami/Paul is their rose who has a huge generous heart with all the natural beauty nature has to offer. Eric is their snapdragon who keeps all the other flowers on their toes. Lastly, Carrie is their orchid who needs loving attention and deserves it. They can't claim her genetically but are better people for having her in their lives. John's Funeral: As each of John and Marlena's children (genetic or otherwise) are announced in the flashback, they rise and place their respective flowers by John's urn and pictures. They return to their seats and surround Marlena in love and support. Brady takes the podium and mentions how his grandfather, Timothy Robicheaux, was unable to be in attendance because of his recent hip surgery. He tells the story of how John and his father connected a few years ago. Brady mentions how much alike his father and grandfather were. That being said, there is an essential John Black attribute not connected to Timothy he must mention, the eyebrow. The congregation giggles at the welcomed light-hearted moment. Brady says the use of John Black's eyebrow was perhaps his single greatest asset. Brady outlines all the different ways his father's eyebrows conveyed emotion (Brady calling Belle Tink will always get me). Brady brings the story full circle saying John finding his father helped bring some stability to his life story. Brady notes, no matter how much his father debated his own identity, he always knew he was the world's greatest dad. It's Marlena's turn to take the podium. Brady squeezes her hand before she heads to the front. Marlena's voice catches immediately when she says she didn't even plan to speak today. She says she feels so fortunate to have expressed how she feels to her beloved before his passing. She decides to share a poem with them about love which meant so much to them. After she recites it, she takes a moment to look at the portrait of John and moves toward it. She says they had many obstacles, but their love brought them through. Marlena believes their love will bring the through this, as well. With that, she looks at her beloved John and says, 'good night, my love.' Eric retakes the podium to lead the congregation in prayer. Just then, Shawn Douglas stands in shock as his father and mother walk in. Hope hugs Marlena and SHE DOESN'T EVEN TOUCH HER (their history precedes them). Bo apologizes for the interruption and asks if he is too late to say a few words. Marlena says she would love for him to do that very thing. Bo takes the podium and remembers John's arrival in Salem. Bo notes he was trying to take John out whilst John ended up saving his life. He says John's compassion is his legacy as he constantly did everything, he could to support him. Bo says John gave him the precious gift of time. John may no longer be with them but the gifts he gave remain… and that's a fact. Bo moves towards John's portrait and tells his brother to rest in peace. Eric returns to the podium and thanks everyone for joining them today. He asks them all to join in for the upcoming celebration at the Brady Pub. Marlena tells Eric what a beautiful job he did and how proud John would have been. Kayla hugs Bo and chastises him for leaving the hospital so soon. Bo says he had to be there to pay tribute to John. Chanel tells Johnny how distressed he looked when Kayla talked about John's legacy living through them. He says he thinks his recent behavior would be disappointing to his grandpa. Chanel supports her beloved saying his recent changes give him a clean slate. Kate approaches John's portrait and says what a special place John will always hold in her heart. Just then, Roman walks up and hugs her. Marlena walks over to a bouquet of flowers and flashes back to a time John gave her lilacs, her favorite flower. She wonders who sent them… Brady asks his father to give his love to his mother (an Isabella mention!). Belle mentions the conversation she had with Shawn Douglas days prior when he said two miracles seemed too much to hope for (that line just killed me). Shawn D says how sorry he is and they embrace. Hope tells Bo she and John had a special bond because of Stefano (that would be that when she was Princess Gina, she and John had sex on a submarine – look it up). She takes a picture of John and says she is going to miss everything about him. Hope implores the angels to take good care of her special friend and Bo embraces her. Kayla tells Marlena she asked the hospital about the gold coin in John's hands, but they say it completely disappeared. Marlena says not to worry about it as the coin was meant to be a sign of hope for John's recovery… and now that hope is gone. Keep checking back for the latest Days of Our Lives recaps! Days of Our Lives Recap: John Black's Funeral Continues

Days of Our Lives Recap: John Black's Funeral Continues originally appeared on Daytime Confidential. On today's Days of Our Lives recap: Part Two: Funeral: Chanel and Tate are talking about how special his Grandpa John was. She knows from Johnny how John always tried to make folks laugh. Things get awkward when Chanel asks about the baby and Tate tells her about touring L&D the day before. She asks about the adoption and Tate says they have yet to find a family. Marlena and Johnny chat about the upcoming service. She asks how he's doing and says her children and grandchildren are most important. She asks about the strain between him and EJ and Johnny asks that they focus on his good grandfather rather than his sketchy dad. Abe and Steve connect they reflect on all the adventures they all had together. Steve says when push came to shove, there was no better man to have in their corner than John Black. Eric approaches the front and calls the service to order (I. AM. NOT. READY!). Brady asks Rachel to take a seat but she's not ready to say goodbye. Marlena approaches and says she feels the same but if they hold those, they love close to their heart they never really leave. With that, she gives Rachel the Mickey Mantle baseball card and says John would want her to have it. If she feels sad, she will immediately remember her grandfather and the wonderful time they had at the Cubs game. Brady wants to take Rachel home when Tate steps in. He thinks it would be better if he and Arianna Grace did the job. Rachel asks Grandma Marlena if that would be ok, and they all agree. Rachel puts her hand on her father's heart and says Grandpa John will always be right there. As everyone begins to cry, they all hug and exit. Everyone takes a seat and breathes as Eric begins the service. He thanks everyone who is there, those who wish they were there and those engaged virtually (well played). Eric says they are there to honor the life and legacy of John Black. With that, Eric leads the group in a responsive prayer. Eric calls what they are engaged in as a 'homegoing' service and says he has been welcomed into his eternal home by Shawn and Caroline and all those who loved him. Everyone begins to tear up as Eric leads them in a scripture reading. Belle looks back and sees Shawn Douglas has joined the group. Park: Hope wheels Bo out to enjoy a little fresh air. She hugs him from behind when Bo says he wants to show her just how much he appreciates her and how much she loves him. Hope takes a seat and wonders how he managed to pull off a picnic. Bo says he had a little help from two little angels named Ciara and Chelsea. He notices that Hope is a little less than happy and pushes to know what's up. Hope says it's about John and explains he is gone. Bo doesn't get it and Hope's expression helps him understand John is dead. Funeral: Brady stands at the podium and begins to sing Amazing Grace. The entire congregation begins to sing with him. Marlena notices Belle is a bit beside herself and grabs her hand (that has to be a real-life reaction). Everyone quiets down, when Brady sings the last line and his voice begins to crack (I just can't. The responses from the background all the way to the back are just killing me). Abe, Steve and Shane are at the podium. Abe says they all represent a part of John's life. Abe says he worked with John at the police department, Shane was his boss at the ISA, and Steve was his partner at Black Patch. Abe says no matter his role, John always fought for justice. Shane says the commendations John earned over the years barely scratched the surface of his service. Steve says he was always willing to protect his family and friends. His final act of courage was to save the life of a man he considered his brother. Abe notes loyalty was a huge part of John's character. Shane says that's how they will remember him. They are all so better off for having known him and the world is a safer place. Park: Bo is freaking out when he realizes John is dead because of him. Hope says nothing would have stopped him. They all worked together because they loved him. Bo wonders why she didn't tell him, but Hope says they were trying to protect him. Bo can't imagine what Marlena is going through and Hope says she spoke to her that morning. When he learns the funeral is happening today, Bo stops him saying he needs to protect his recovery. Bo says he must be there for Marlena and to honor John. Funeral: Kayla and Roman are at the podium. She says they along with their sister Kimberly not only lost a great man but one they called his brother. Roman explains a bit of the story of how John thought he was him. Roman believes John handled the situation with such grace. He says he loved John for raising his children and taking care of his family, which became his family. Kayla notes how John never hesitated to help someone in need. Roman says there is an entire list of reasons they will always be grateful for John Black. Kayla says she is grateful for John's relationship with their parents. She notes he and Caroline always stayed close. The proof of that was his naming his first-born son after the Brady family. She says John was one of the best men she has ever known. Belle takes the podium and talks about him being a superhero. Even as an adult, she knew she was safe when with her dad. She breaks down when noting he was always very powerful in the small moments when she needed support or a laugh. She returns to her seat and is comforted by her mother. Hospital: The doctor will not give Bo her approval to go to John's funeral. She leaves and and Bo tells Hope he has to be there for one of his best friends. She begs him to take care of himself. Funeral: Paul takes the podium, takes a breath, and notes how relatively new he is to the family. He says sports can bring folks together which is one of the ways that bonded him and his father. Paul thinks it's possible his dad played pro ball in a past life and maybe even threw a pitch for his favorite team… and the congregation said, 'the New York Yankees!' Paul begins to cry when he says his dad was also a Cubs fan. He says baseball games have no clock, but off the field time runs out. He wishes he had more time with his dad and wants him there when he and Andrew get married. That being said, the time he had with his father made him feel loved and accepted. Every time he sees a rainbow in the sky or a baseball go by he will think of his father. With tears streaming down his face, Paul looks at the picture of his father and says he can't wait to play another game of baseball with his dad. To be continued… Keep checking back for the latest Days of Our Lives recaps! This story was originally reported by Daytime Confidential on Jun 11, 2025, where it first appeared.

‘Days of Our Lives' cast shot funeral for Drake Hogestyn's character while actor was dying of cancer

When life imitates art. While Drake Hogestyn was dying of pancreatic cancer last year, the 'Days of Our Lives' cast and crew filmed his character John Black's funeral as they prepared to also say goodbye to the actor himself. Hogestyn's family, according to Variety, agreed to executive producer Ken Corday's plan for the actor's on-screen send-off. Advertisement 8 Drake Hogestyn in 'Days of Our Lives.' Peacock 'Drake, as the consummate storyteller that he is, said, 'Absolutely. You gotta tell the story,'' Eric Martsoff, who played Hogestyn's son Brady, told the outlet in an interview published Monday. 'Drake knew what he was facing,' Martsoff, 53, continued. 'He understood that this is a story fans would want to be told. So Drake graciously said, 'Yes, let's do it.' But knowing that this man was on the planet, and we were literally taping his funeral and his death, that was hard. It was really hard.' Black's funeral scenes airing this week were shot over three days in September. The following weekend, Hogestyn passed away at age 70. 'There was literally zero acting going on during those three days,' Martsoff said. 'Everyone was holding hands to the point where our hands were getting white.' He later flatlined in a hospital with his wife, Dr. Marlena Evans (Deidre Hall), close by his side. Black's body was completely covered in gauze to sidestep the fact that the character was no longer being played by Hogestyn. 8 John Black's death scene in 'Days of Our Lives.' Peacock Advertisement Martha Madison, who played Black's daughter, Bella, told Variety the 'Days' team felt a 'responsibility' to honor the character the right way. 'The fact that we were losing Drake at the same time, it was very hard on us emotionally, as we're losing someone we really love,' the 47-year-old actress explained. 'We didn't really have to perform. It wasn't like we were having to dig for anything. It was just all right there.' Madison also noted that shooting Black's funeral scenes was the cast's way of saying goodbye to Hogestyn. 8 The cast of 'Days of Our Lives.' 8 Mary Beth Evans and Drake Hogestyn at the 50th Daytime Emmy Awards in 2023.
