Senior citizen killed, nine injured in Kunak-Lahad Datu van crash
KUNAK: 74-year-old substitute driver was killed and nine others injured after a van crashed at KM29 of Jalan Kunak-Lahad Datu early this morning.
The incident occurred around 7 am when the driver reportedly lost control of the vehicle.
Acting Kunak police chief ASP Reduan Rahman stated that the Hiace van, carrying 10 passengers, veered off the road.
'Four passengers suffered minor injuries, while five were seriously hurt. The van was en route from Semporna to Sandakan,' he told Bernama.
Fire and Rescue operation commander Mohd Ridzuan Shahidun said emergency services arrived at 7.50 am after receiving a distress call at 7.19 am.
The driver, trapped in the seat, was rescued using Hydraulic Power Unit (HPU) equipment.
All passengers, aged between 46 and 75, received initial treatment before being transported to hospital via Emergency Medical Rescue Services (EMRS) and an ambulance.
Police are investigating the case under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987.

MMEA Conducting Thorough Investigation Into Pulau Perhentian Boat Capsize Incident
KUALA BERANG, June 29 (Bernama) -- The Malaysian Maritime Enforcement Agency (MMEA) will conduct a thorough investigation in connection with the boat capsize incident in Pulau Perhentian, Besut last night, which resulted in the deaths of three victims, including two family members. Its director-general, Admiral Maritime Datuk Mohd Rosli Abdullah said that although the incident was reported to have occurred when the boat carrying 15 passengers was hit by a storm, his department will conduct a thorough investigation, including the boat's licencing, cargo carried, and ensuring all regulations were complied with. "We will conduct an investigation, including contacting the victims involved and carrying out a detailed investigation in various aspects," he said when met by reporters after the launching ceremony of the MADANI Adopted Village and MADANI Adopted School programme by the People's Volunteer Corps (RELA) 2025 at the grand hall of the Hulu Terengganu District Council here today. The ceremony was officiated by the Home Affairs Minister Datuk Seri Saifuddin Nasution Ismail. SEREMBAN, June 29 (Bernama) -- The body of a Bangladeshi man was found floating in Sungai Muar near Kampung Kuala Gemas in Gemas this morning.
