Farmers oppose Ajit Pawar's loan recovery proposal for Nashik district cooperative bank
Nashik: Farmers in Nashik, who are defaulters of the Nashik District Central Cooperative Bank, rejected the loan recovery proposal made by state finance minister Ajit Pawar. Instead, they demanded a complete loan waiver for marginal farmers and a complete interest waiver for others.
Arjun Borade, the district unit chief of the Shetkari Sanghatna, said the proposal made by Ajit Pawar, who is also the deputy chief minister, did not align with the farmers' demands. The farmers have formulated their proposal, which will be presented to govt. "We are keeping it very simple. Our demand is a complete loan waiver for marginal farmers and a complete interest waiver for all others who will settle their accounts," said Borade.
A meeting of the farmers was recently held, and it was attended by Kailas Borse, the state president of 938 Tribal Cooperative Societies, and others. "Marginal farmers should be given complete relief from loan and interest, while other farmers should be given the opportunity to clear their principal in 10 equal monthly instalments," said Borade.
Borade added the representatives were unanimous in their decision on dealing with govt against the backdrop of farmers being hit repeatedly by nature's vagaries and intervention by govt for its political advantage that deprived farmers of good market prices for the produce at opportune times.
Deputy chief minister Ajit Pawar, in a recent meeting with farmers' representatives and agriculture minister Manikrao Kokate in Mumbai, proposed that loans up to Rs 1 lakh would incur 2% interest, and up to Rs 5 lakh would have 3% interest. Loans up to Rs 10 lakh would be charged 4% interest, and loans beyond Rs 10 lakh would be charged 5% interest. "The proposal by the deputy CM is not in line with the assurances of interest and loan waivers that were promised to the farmers before the election and at several meetings held with the farmers. Therefore, farmers will stand by their demand," said Borade.

After SC nod, administration beginsland survey for Banke Bihari corridor
Agra: The local administration in Mathura has started a land survey for the proposed Banke Bihari corridor on Monday, after the Supreme Court's approval. The move comes amid ongoing protests by local residents, including the Goswami community, whose members are considered the temple's 'sevayats' -- hereditary priests who manage daily rituals and other temple affairs. Banke Bihari is regarded as one of the most revered Krishna shrines in north India, attracting lakhs of pilgrims. Mathura district magistrate, CP Singh, said, "The Banke Bihari temple corridor project aims to offer people a safe and dignified 'darshan' experience of the deity. Govt has assured that the rights and traditions of the temple's 'sevayats' will remain untouched, with the state focusing only on development of the external infrastructure. The proposed corridor will resolve long-standing issues of overcrowding and stampedes. It will also offer facilities like clean drinking water, toilets, rest areas, medical centres and lockers." The land survey was conducted by a four-member team who inspected the area around the temple complex. Sources within the local administration told TOI that to ensure minimal inconvenience for local residents, an active search is underway for possible resettlement spots within Vrindavan. On May 15, the SC bench of Justices Bela M Trivedi and SC Sharma permitted the state govt to proceed with a 'Rs 500 crore redevelopment plan', which entails acquiring almost five acres of land, using temple funds. The SC ruling came amid protests from the Goswami community and local residents, who have opposed both the corridor project and establishment of the Banke Bihari Temple Trust. Gyanendra Kishor Goswami, a member of the temple management, said, "The proposed corridor and Banke Bihari Trust would destroy the temple's original and ancient form. Govt has adopted a dictatorial attitude towards our demands. Our protest will continue." The move to redevelop the place came up after a stampede-like incident on Janmashtami in 2022, that claimed two lives. Rudra Global plans to set up 30-mw renewable energy projects in Gujarat
Steel maker Rudra Global Infra is looking to set up 30-megawatt renewable energy projects in Gujarat, mainly for captive usage. The company is also in the process of setting up a 3.3-megawatt wind energy project at a cost of over Rs 32 crore, Rudra Global Infra said in an exchange filing.
