Mikey Madison in Talks to Replace Sydney Sweeney in A24 Edgar Allen Poe Drama THE MASQUE OF THE RED DEATH — GeekTyrant

Best Actress Oscar winner Mikey Madison ( Anora ) is in talks to replace Sydney Sweeney in A24's feature adaptation of Edgar Allen Poe's The Masque of the Red Death . No official deal is done yet. The film is being billed as a 'wildly revisionist' take on the short story from filmmaker Charlie Polinger. Madison will reportedly portray twin sisters in a world where a mad prince (Prince Prospero in the original 1842 short story) welcomes wealthy elites into his castle as plague spreads across the land. The long-lost twin, who lives among the lower class, enters the castle in what is an atmosphere of drugs, sex and game of thrones as Prospero throws a masquerade ball in seven rooms, each decorated with a different color. In the original short, a mysterious figure enters the castle disguised as a Red Death victim. Prospero dies after confronting the stranger, along with many other guests. Sweeney reportedly stepped back due to scheduling conflicts. She is currently in production on Season 3 of HBO's Euphoria and Legendary's feature take of Japanese IP Gundam this fall. Polinger is currently in post on his next film The Plague , which was made independently and stars Joel Edgerton. Madison is also attached to Reptilia , the latest movie from filmmaker Alejandro Landes Echavarría. The film will co-star Kirsten Dunst and is based on a script by Landes Echavarría and Duke Merriman. Masque of the Red Death will shoot in either Q4 of this year or Q1 2026. via: Deadline

Julianne Moore ‘Just Wrapped' Jesse Eisenberg's Upcoming A24 Musical: ‘We're All Singing in It'

Julianne Moore celebrated the premiere of her next project, 'Sirens' on Netflix, on Tuesday, May 20 at the Plaza Hotel in New York City. The limited series features Moore alongside Meghann Fahy, Milly Alcock, Kevin Bacon, and Glenn Howerton in the Margot Robbie-produced project from 'Maid' creator Molly Smith Metzler. On the carpet, IndieWire caught up with Moore about Jesse Eisenberg's upcoming A24 musical film. As for what she can tease, Moore told us that she will indeed be showing off her vocal chops, a follow-up to singing a little bit in 2021's 'Dear Evan Hansen': 'Yes, I am. I'm singing. We're all singing in it,' she said. More from IndieWire 'Resurrection' Review: Is This an Endurance Test or Imaginative, Boundary-Defying Cinema? You Decide! 'Elden Ring' Movie in the Works from Director Alex Garland at A24 'Jesse Eisenberg is just the most extraordinary person,' she continued. 'He's so incredibly creative. I feel so fortunate to be able to work with him. This is very different, but I think that he can have sort of a satirical worldview. At the end of the day, he's got so much feeling. We're all very excited about it. I actually just wrapped it last week, last Thursday.' Eisenberg's film follows a shy woman who is unexpectedly cast in a community theater musical production, going to extremes as she loses herself in the role. It is an original comedy starring Moore and Paul Giamatti, with Eisenberg also taking on a role in the film. Additionally, the cast includes Halle Bailey, Havana Rose Liu, Bernadette Peters, Eldar Isgandarov, Bonnie Milligan, Colton Ryan, Lilli Cooper, and Maulik Pancholy. One of Moore's frequent collaborators, Todd Haynes, is in the midst of working on his next project. 'We're very excitedly moving forward on this adaptation of Hernan Diaz's 'Trust,'' he told The Hollywood Reporter in February. 'That's what I'm focusing on right now with Kate Winslet at HBO.' As for whether Moore knows anything about Haynes' project, she told us that she has 'no idea. I texted with him not too long ago. I mean, he's just an amazing person, a truly gifted artist, and I'll be in anything he asks me to be in.' 'Sirens' showrunner Metzler previously was a writer on 'Shameless,' and told IndieWire that being a playwright is very 'similar' to TV writing, as both processes are 'very, very collaborative.' Metzler said, 'When you're playwriting you're usually with the whole team, with someone designing the set and the director and actors and dramaturg. You're all making this thing together, but the person who has to speak for the vision of the show is usually the playwright and you just are very empowered. Your relationship with your director is a true partnership. And is a writer's medium, playwriting. That's what's similar about it is TV is a writer's medium.' 'Sirens' premieres May 22 on Netflix. Julianne Moore Talks About Being Drawn Into the ‘Stakes' of ‘Echo Valley' — and Expresses a Desire to Work with Wes Anderson

Julianne Moore attended the premiere of Apple Original's 'Echo Valley' on Wednesday, June 4 alongside her son Caleb Freundlich in their hometown of New York City. The Oscar-winning actor stars alongside Sydney Sweeney in Michael Pearce's latest film, written by 'Mare of Easttown' scribe Brad Inglesby. The story follows 'so much about this woman's life, about what she wants, what she's lost, what she's trying to hang on to, and I think that she's at a point where she really feels that she has nothing left to lose,' she told IndieWire. 'When you have stakes like that in a film, it's exciting. That's what I'm drawn to, isn't it?' More from IndieWire What Could Possibly Get 'Ferris Bueller' Star Mia Sara Back to Acting After a Decade Off? Mike Flanagan Calling Her Bluff Willem Dafoe Is a Summer Tenant Tormenting Corey Hawkins in 'The Man in My Basement' Teaser Director Pearce mused that working with Moore was one of his highlights of the project. 'Working with Julianne, someone that's so experienced, seeing her have the excitable energy of a 20-something-year-old actor who was on their first set, she was like that almost every day — I think that was just edifying,' he told us. 'As a director, you can get so neurotic and beaten by the process, and the schedule's hard, and you lose the location, or you didn't get a full scene, and you can walk in a bit broken,' he said. 'She was just a reminder each day about why we do it, that we're here to have fun, to play, and we should feel privileged to make movies. I think that's just something I think about, that however hard it is, it's like you're in a sandbox for adults.' As for Moore, she recently attended the Cannes premiere of Wes Anderson's 'The Phoenician Scheme' on May 18. I asked her if she would ever be interested in working with the auteur and she said, 'I would. I think it would be so wonderful. Everybody's work is so stellar in that film.' As someone who has attended the festival upwards of a dozen times, the excitement doesn't wane. 'One of the exciting things about Cannes is that you stand there as the film premieres and you get to look at the actors and filmmakers' faces as it's happening and it's incredible.' Moore recently told us that she will indeed be showing off her vocal chops in Jesse Eisenberg's upcoming A24 musical, a follow-up to singing a little bit in 2021's 'Dear Evan Hansen': 'Yes, I am. I'm singing. We're all singing in it,' she said. 'Jesse Eisenberg is just the most extraordinary person,' she continued. 'He's so incredibly creative. I feel so fortunate to be able to work with him. This is very different, but I think that he can have sort of a satirical worldview. At the end of the day, he's got so much feeling. We're all very excited about it.'
