Patna: Prime Minister (PM) Narendra Modi on Friday launched a scathing attack on the RJD, accusing it of insulting Dr B R Ambedkar and contributing to Bihar's backwardness. He contrasted this with his praise for CM Nitish Kumar, crediting him with pulling the state out of the "jungle raj and loot" that he said prevailed before 2005 under the rule of Lalu Prasad and Rabri Devi.
"Nitish has brought Bihar back on track from the jungle raj and prepared the launchpad for the state's development," Modi said while addressing his fourth public rally in Bihar this year. The event followed the remote inauguration and foundation-laying of projects worth Rs 9,518 crore at Jasoli in Siwan district.
The projects included the launch of a Vande Bharat Express train between Patliputra Junction in Patna and Gorakhpur in Uttar Pradesh, the first consignment of diesel locomotives from the Marhaura rail factory in Saran and several schemes under the rail, energy and urban development departments.
Referring to a recent controversy, Modi cited an incident where a portrait of Dr Ambedkar was placed near Lalu's feet by one of his supporters during the RJD chief's birthday celebration on June 11. "I know they will never apologise for disrespecting Ambedkar. By insulting Baba Saheb, these people want to show themselves as bigger than him. The people of Bihar will never forget this insult. They have no respect for Dalits and extremely backward people," he said.
"RJD keeps Baba Saheb at its feet, but Modi keeps him in his heart," he added. Modi accused the RJD and Congress of turning a once-prosperous Bihar into a symbol of migration. "They are now trying to grab power again by resorting to different tricks. But I have faith in the youth. They will keep them away from power. Together you have eradicated jungle raj in Bihar," he said.
Modi also targeted the previous govts for their slogan-driven politics.
"The youth have only heard stories about the plight of Bihar but have no idea what the jungle raj people had done to the state," he said.
Highlighting his participation in the recent G7 summit, the PM said world leaders now recognise India as the third-largest economic superpower. "Bihar is definitely going to play a very big role in the country's prosperity," he said.
At the event, Modi handed over house keys to 6,684 beneficiaries in Bihar and took a swipe at past govts. "While Congress and RJD kept shouting the 'Garibi Hatao' slogan for decades, the NDA govt has shown how poverty can actually be reduced. More than 25 crore people have come out of poverty in India, including 3.75 crore in Bihar, in the last decade," he said.
"Our slogan is Sabka Saath, Sabka Vikas, but those with lanterns and the hand (RJD-Congress) believe only in parivar ka saath, parivar ka vikas," Modi said.

US raises security concerns over China's planned London embassy

The United States has voiced concern over China's plan to build a new embassy in London, saying it could give Beijing access to sensitive communications near one of Britain's key financial centres. The comments, reported by The Guardian, have stirred uncertainty over whether the embassy project will go ahead. The site in question, Royal Mint Court, lies close to the City of London and Canary Wharf areas connected by underground data cables. Security officials fear the location could pose a risk, and the UK government is now reviewing the plan. Campaigners who have opposed the embassy for years say the issue has become more political since Washington got involved. 'They seem to be struggling to make the right decision,' Dave Lake, a local resident and head of the campaign against the embassy, told The Guardian. 'It was a straightforward inquiry but because of this, that and the other, particularly the Americans getting involved, it's made it all up in the air.' The UK government rejected planning permission for the embassy two years ago due to security concerns. But it has since taken over the decision from local authorities and is expected to make a final call by September 9. China bought the 2-hectare site in 2018 for £255 million. Demonstrations against the plan have continued, with fears that a Chinese embassy in the area would increase surveillance and draw further protests. Lake added: 'We know there are cables running underground, and we know the capabilities of the Chinese. In the early conversations, it was just about our security.' Former British diplomat Charles Parton, who advised Parliament's foreign affairs committee, said the matter depends on what kind of data passes through those cables. Speaking to The Guardian, he said: 'There are two ways to look at it. One is to say you can't use the site; the other is to say reroute the cables. How difficult is it to reroute them? I don't know.' Parton said embassy upgrades are normal in diplomacy, but added that 'if the security issue is resolved satisfactorily, then why shouldn't both countries go ahead and build new embassies?' The White House raised its concerns shortly after the US and UK signed a trade deal during the G7 summit in Canada this week. A US official told The Sunday Times, as quoted by The Guardian, 'The United States is deeply concerned about providing China with potential access to the sensitive communications of one of our closest allies.' The Dutch parliament has also flagged worries over the site's location. Uyghur activist Rahima Mahmut, who lives in the UK, told The Guardian, 'It is really unbelievable when not only the US government but also the Dutch government express their concerns.' Simon Cheng, a former Hong Kong consulate worker now in the UK, said the site could increase surveillance risks for people in exile. 'The UK government needs to think twice,' Cheng said. 'It's not only the closest ally that has given a warning but also others. We have concerns about our security here.' The Chinese embassy defended its proposal, saying it had followed UK rules and listened to all stakeholders. A spokesperson told The Guardian the embassy would help China carry out its diplomatic duties and deepen cooperation. The spokesperson added, 'Anti-China forces are using security risks as an excuse to interfere with the British government's decision. This is a despicable move that is unpopular and will not succeed.'

UPA abandoned Mumbai to its fate, Mahayuti saved it with massive infra investment: Amit Shah

Mumbai: Union home minister Amit Shah on Friday said the UPA regime neglected Mumbai, but the BJP-led Mahayuti government "saved" it with over Rs 7 lakh crore of infrastructure projects. Investments in the irrigation sector helped end the spate of farmer suicides in Maharashtra, a problem that had been afflicting the state for many decades, the senior BJP leader said. Speaking at the inauguration of the new headquarters of the Maharashtra Chambers of Commerce, Industry and Agriculture here, Shah said India will move up one place to be the third largest economy by 2026-27, and claimed there has been a "symmetric" development in the country over the last 11 years. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like The Simple Morning Habit for a Flatter Belly After 50! Lulutox With elections to the Mumbai municipal corporation around the corner, Shah said till a few years ago he used to fear what would happen to Mumbai given its problems like population explosion, old and creaking housing, slums, and traffic congestion. Congratulating Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis for reversing the situation, Shah said Fadnavis helped the state, and noted that the state also benefited when Eknath Shinde led the previous government where Fadnavis was deputy CM. Live Events Before 2014, there was a "double engine" government of Manmohan Singh and Sonia Gandhi at the Centre with NCP's Sharad Pawar also being part of it, yet the Congress-led ruling alliance "left Mumbai to its fate" for those ten years, he alleged. "The double engine governments under Narendra Modi (at the Centre), and Fadnavis-Shinde (in the state) have saved Mumbai with investments of Rs 7 lakh crore," Shah said. To highlight the BJP-led government 's achievements, he listed infrastructure projects such as the 337-km Metro network at an investment of Rs 1.50 lakh crore, Rs 1.08 lakh crore Bullet train between Mumbai to Ahmedabad, Rs 80,000 crore, greenfield port at Wadhawan, Rs 17,000 crore Atal Setu trans-harbour bridge, Rs 55,000 crore Versova-Virar sea-link and Rs 60,000 crore Virar-Alibag multimodal corridor. Shah also asked if the people now criticizing the style of functioning of the BJP governments had the vision to plan such projects, and added that if they had implemented such projects, Fadnavis would have been left with nothing to do. There are also accusations and criticism regarding ongoing slum rehabilitation projects, Shah rued, without mentioning any specific project. Notably, the opposition has been targeting the BJP government over the Dharavi redevelopment project involving the Adani group. The Fadnavis government also implemented projects in the rest of Maharashtra, he said, citing the examples of new airports at Shirdi and in Sindhudurg district. When he entered politics, farmer suicides in Maharashtra were being discussed at the global level, Shah said, adding that BJP-led governments boosted investment in irrigation which ensured that farmer suicides ended in the state. Replying to criticism of Maharashtra facing injustice in central allocations, Shah said the total devolutions and grant-in aid to the state increased to Rs 7.82 lakh crore between 2014 to 2024, against Rs 1.91 lakh crore between 2004 to 2014 during the UPA era. Additionally, grants were given to irrigation and infrastructure projects as well, the Union minister said. Shah urged industry chambers like MACCIA to sensitise the government about the challenges faced by its members for better policy outcomes, recalling how suggestions to build the Konkan Railway by lobby groups helped economic growth. Underlining that global events like Israel- Iran and Russia-Ukraine wars are having an impact on the domestic economic activity, Shah said business chambers should engage professional bodies to be relevant, which is possible if they continue to make necessary changes in their functioning. Shah also asked MACCIA to introspect on its own policies and think of how to get young blood into its working.
