Prayagraj: The
Karchhana railway station
in Prayagraj underwent a complete transformation and has been redeveloped as part of the Amrit Bharat railway station scheme. PM Narendra Modi will virtually inaugurate 103 railway stations across the country that were developed under this ambitious scheme, including Karchhana, on May 22.
Among these, nine stations fall under the North Central Railway's Prayagraj zone.
Under the
Amrit Bharat station scheme
, all nine stations in the zone, including Karchhana, are equipped with world-class passenger amenities. The stations included in this redevelopment initiative are Karchhana and Govindpuri from the Prayagraj division; Orchha and Pukhrayan from the Jhansi division and Fatehabad, Govindgarh, Govardhan, Mahua Mandawar, and Idgah from the Agra division.
PM Modi laid the virtual foundation stone for the development of these stations under the Amrit Bharat Station Scheme in August 2023.
The focus was on improving infrastructure and providing better experiences for rail passengers.
The redevelopment of Karchhana railway station was carried out at a cost of Rs 9.8 crore. A new station building was constructed and the number of platforms was increased from four to five to handle more train traffic and improve passenger convenience.

A new three-metre-wide foot overbridge has also been constructed to facilitate easier movement between platforms. All five platforms are upgraded to high-level platforms to ensure safer and more comfortable boarding and deboarding of trains.
In addition, facilities like passenger waiting halls and divyang (differently-abled) friendly ramps are also developed.
Earlier, the station building was located near platform numbers two and three. However, the newly constructed station building is now on platform number one, significantly improving accessibility and convenience for passengers.

Rs 12,000 crore fuels Shakti's 2-Year smooth run in Karnataka

Bengaluru: Shakti scheme — which offers free bus travel for women and the first among the five guarantee schemes introduced by the Congress govt after coming to power two years ago — has seen over 475 crore tickets issued under the scheme and significantly boosted public road transport ridership from 85 lakh daily passengers to a shade over 1 crore. BMTC leads the table, having issued over 150 crore tickets, closely followed by KSRTC with 140 crore. The four transport corporations — BMTC, KSRTC, NWKRTC, and KKRTC — collectively spent Rs 12,000 crore to implement the scheme. Marking the scheme's second anniversary, a senior official involved in its implementation said that the Shakti scheme came as a major relief for road transport corporations (RTCs), which suffered immensely during the pandemic. "The increase in patronage and optimal utilisation of vehicles benefitted RTCs. The four RTCs in the state operate a fleet of 24,500 buses, of which women can travel free on 20,500. There are no distance restrictions — for instance, women can travel between Bidar and Bengaluru (approximately 700 km) on ordinary services free of cost. Additionally, RTCs are not passing toll charges onto women when they travel on toll roads." by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Pinga-Pinga e HBP? "It enabled many women to explore job opportunities and use the money saved on travel for other essential expenses, including children's education," the official added. According to him, compared with other states like Tamil Nadu, Andhra Pradesh, Punjab, and Delhi where similar free bus travel schemes exist, Karnataka has performed better in execution. Transport minister Ramalinga Reddy said, "Over the past two years, the scheme enjoyed consistent patronage, indicating its widespread acceptance. While the state govt still owes Rs 2,000 crore in reimbursements under the scheme, it helped RTCs raise a Rs 2,000 crore loan to clear pending arrears related to provident fund, gratuity, and other employee dues. The principal and interest on the loan are being borne by the state govt. Moreover, support is being extended for the induction of 2,000 new buses." The minister added that the total outstanding liability of the transport corporations stands at Rs 4,000 crore, primarily due to mismanagement by the previous BJP govt. "This financial burden accumulated over the years. However, compared to RTCs in other states — Delhi, for example, has a liability exceeding Rs 59,000 crore — Karnataka's RTCs are in a relatively stronger financial position," he said. At the time of launching the Shakti scheme, the state govt announced plans to issue dedicated smart cards to beneficiaries. However, even after two years, smart cards have not been introduced. "Currently, the system of verifying beneficiaries using Aadhaar cards is functioning well. Nevertheless, steps will be taken to implement separate smart cards for women availing the scheme," the minister said. ———- 1CR TRAVERL DAILY * BMTC, KSRTC, NWKRTC, and KKRTC collectively spent Rs 12,000 crore on scheme in 2 yrs * Four RTCs operate 24,500 buses, and women can travel free on 20,500 * No distance barriers for women travellers * Daily ridership on these buses has improved from 85 lakh to a little over 1 crore

To offer more affordable food to travellers, ‘Udan Yatri Cafe' takes off at Bhopal airport

Bhopal: The 'UDAN Yatri Cafe' commenced operations on Wednesday at Raja Bhoj Airport, Bhopal. This joint venture between the Ministry of Civil Aviation and Airports Authority of India (AAI) strives to provide economical, delicious, and high-quality food options to travellers. The UDAN (Ude Desh Ka Aam Nagrik) programme was initiated to establish air links with regional cities and provide cost-effective, secure air travel for ordinary citizens. While airfares were reduced under this scheme, expensive airport food remained problematic for travellers. Civil Aviation Minister Ram Mohan Naidu introduced the 'UDAN Yatri Cafe', first at Kolkata Airport. Currently operating at four airports nationwide, Bhopal marks its fifth location. A female passenger conducted the opening ceremony at Bhopal Airport. The event saw participation from Airport Director Ramji Awasthi, COSB Commandant Atul Bhanotra, airline station managers, and airport staff. "UDAN Yatri Cafe is a public-friendly and socially motivated initiative, which aims to provide a comfortable, accessible, and satisfactory travel experience to the passengers keeping in mind their basic needs," said Director Airport Ramjee Awasthi. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Why Didn't Anyone Tell You About This Power Saver? elecTrick - Save upto 80% on Power Bill Pre-Order Undo The menu features popular Indian snacks and beverages catering to various travellers. 3 summer special trains giving much relief to migrants from UP, Jharkhand

1 2 3 Chandigarh: Northern Railways has brought major relief to migrant workers and families in the Tricity area by operating three summer special trains. The trains— Chandigarh-Dhanbad Garib Rath, Chandigarh-Patna Garib Rath, and Chandigarh-Gorakhpur-Dibrugarh Express — are running at full capacity, significantly easing travel during the summer rush. The move has boosted direct connectivity from Chandigarh to key cities such as Lucknow, Varanasi, Bareilly, and Dhanbad. Officials say the trains have emerged as a lifeline for hundreds of migrants who otherwise struggled to secure bookings in regular long-distance trains, which were already overbooked well before the start of the vacation season. Senior divisional commercial manager (DCM) Naveen Kumar confirmed that the decision to run these summer specials was made in response to rising demand. "Three special trains were sanctioned to cater to the needs of migrants and travellers from the region. These trains are running packed and have brought much-needed relief to passengers," he said. Train number 03311, running from Dhanbad to Chandigarh, operates every Tuesday and Friday. It departs at 11:50 pm and reaches Chandigarh at 4:30 am on the third day. The return service, train number 03312, leaves Chandigarh every Thursday and Sunday at 6 am and reaches Dhanbad at 9 am the following day. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Sunteck Sky Park, Mira Road - 2 & 3 BHK @ ₹1.33 Cr* Sunteck Sky Park Learn More Undo The route passes through major junctions including Varanasi, Lucknow, Bareilly, Moradabad, and Ambala. This Garib Rath train includes 16 third AC coaches. Train numbers 04504/04505, connecting Chandigarh to Patna, are also running as Garib Rath summer specials. The train from Chandigarh leaves every Thursday at 11:35 pm and reaches Patna at 10:10 pm the next day. The return train departs every Friday night from Patna and reaches Chandigarh late the following evening. With halts at Lucknow, Sultanpur, Varanasi, Buxar, and Ara, this service has become an important corridor for passengers from Eastern Uttar Pradesh and Bihar. Additionally, the Chandigarh-Gorakhpur-Dibrugarh Express (train numbers 15904/15903) departs from Chandigarh every Sunday night at 11:35 pm. It reaches Gorakhpur the next morning and continues onward to Dibrugarh, reaching by the third day. The return train from Dibrugarh runs every Monday morning and arrives in Chandigarh two days later. All three trains have seen high demand since their announcement. Bookings are open both online and at railway ticket counters. Officials have urged passengers to travel responsibly and make early reservations due to limited seat availability. With these services in place, migrants from UP and Jharkhand can now travel home for summer with far less hassle.
