NEW: Rivals' @SWiltfong_ and @samspiegs have logged expert predictions for USC to land 2027 4-star QB Peyton Houston✌️Houston is the No. 8 QB in the 2027 class.Read: https://t.co/mFVQpYkotm pic.twitter.com/XjAsT6IQz6
The Oklahoma Sooners have their quarterback situation figured out for the 2026 recruiting class with the addition of Bowe Bentley and it was believed that the Sooners were in a good spot with their top 2027 quarterback target Peyton Houston.
Back in June, Brandon Drumm of OUInsider followed up on a prediction from the year prior, favoring the Sooners for Houston, but the tide has turned west on Monday. Steve Wiltfong and Sam Spiegelman of Rivals predicted that Houston would land with the USC Trojans.
Houston is the No. 8 quarterback in the 2027 recruiting class and is an incredible dual-threat prospect. If the Sooners indeed miss out on Houston, they'll have to pivot to find their quarterback in the 2027 cycle.
The position is in good shape for the foreseeable future with John Mateer set to start in 2025 and has eligibility to return in 2026. If Mateer goes off to the NFL, Michael Hawkins Jr. would get the first crack to take over as the starting quarterback, and OU would have Bentley along with Jett Niu and Whitt Newbauer expected to be on the roster.
The only other quarterbacks Oklahoma has offered in the 2027 class are Nebraska commit Trae Taylor and unranked prospect out of St. Louis Jonathan Moore.

Fever vs Dream: How many points did Caitlin Clark score today?

After her comments on the Indiana Fever's (10-10) team-wide struggles during an 80-61 loss on Wednesday against the Golden State Valkyries, Caitlin Clark and the Fever responded with an emphatic victory against the Atlanta Dream (12-8) Friday night from Gainbridge Fieldhouse. Although the team shot a scorching-hot 35-of-76 from the field, a season-high 11-of-30 from deep, and 18-of-20 from the charity stripe for an offensive output of 99 points, Clark once again was a bit off regarding her own shooting accuracy against the Dream. As a final stat line, Clark scored 12 points on 5-of-17 from the floor, 1-of-7 from 3-point territory, and 1-of-2 from the free-throw line. She also registered nine rebounds and four assists in 26 minutes of action. Even though her second contest back from a five-game absence with a left groin injury, Clark's success from 3-point territory was still a struggle. However, the former Hawkeye counteracted her long-range shooting difficulties by attacking the paint and converting on layups in her short periods of play. Along with Clark's 11 points, Sophie Cunningham, Aliyah Boston, and Kelsey Mitchell all scored in the double-digits Friday night. Mitchell would lead the team with 25 points on 9-of-16 from the field, 3-of-7 from 3-point territory, and 4-of-4 from the free-throw line in addition to three assists, two blocks, and one steal in 25 minutes. While Atlanta's Jordin Canada entered halftime with a career-high-tying 26 points on a scorching 10-of-15 from the field and 6-of-9 from 3-point territory, Indiana's swarming defense and adjustments saw Canada only put up four points in the game's final 20 minutes. In total, Indiana's defense was incredible by forcing 14 Atlanta turnovers, including eight steals and three blocks. This strong performance fueled the Fever's offensive eruption in the third and fourth quarters as Atlanta struggled to slow Indiana's confident play. Even though Clark only had a slightly improved offensive outing compared to her performance against Golden State, the star guard is still producing in other areas, such as rebounds and assists, to aid her teammates. Clark and the Fever will look to replicate their success during their next game on Sunday, when they host a matchup vs. presumptive 2025 WNBA Rookie of the Year favorite Paige Bueckers and the Dallas Wings (6-15) from Gainbridge Fieldhouse. That game will begin at noon CT and be broadcast on ABC. Fans can also stream the game via Fubo, which offers a free trial to first-time customers. Astros' top prospect Brice Matthews looks to improve after struggling in MLB debut

HOUSTON — It was a rough major league debut for Houston top prospect Brice Matthews on Friday night. But the Astros are confident that he'll learn from his first game to be better moving forward. Batting eighth and playing second base, Matthews went 0 for 4 with three strikeouts in a 7-3 loss to the Texas Rangers . He struck out in his first three at-bats before he was retired on a fly out in the ninth inning. 'I just want him to build from that last at-bat,' manager Joe Espada said. 'He hit that ball hard. You could take a lot of positives from today. No. 1 I thought he handled himself really well, had confidence and he was asking the right questions in between at-bats, and also seeing how they're going to attack (him). There was a lot to learn from that first game.' Matthews said he started to feel better at the plate after a couple of at-bats. 'I feel like as the night went on my at-bats got better, I got more comfortable out there,' he said. 'And just seeing the fight and these guys they never quit, so it makes me wanna play even harder for them. So I'll continue to do that.' Matthews, an infielder rated as the organization's top prospect by was hitting .283 with 12 doubles, five triples, 10 home runs and 39 RBIs in 73 games for Sugar Land this season. He has a .400 on-base percentage and a .476 slugging percentage. His team-leading 25 stolen bases rank fourth in the Pacific Coast League. Matthews, who has primarily played second base this season, was taken 28th overall by the Astros in the 2023 amateur draft. He had a great June where he earned the organization's minor league player of the month honors after hitting .306 with six doubles, three triples, four home runs and 16 RBIs in 25 games. The 23-year-old hit for the cycle on May 10 against Sacramento when he went 4 for 6 with two RBIs. Playing for the team he grew up rooting for was a dream come true for Matthews, who was born in Houston and attended high school in a nearby suburb. 'It was a whirlwind,' he said. 'It was a lot of fun, just awesome atmosphere. Coming to these games as a kid, so to be on the other side of it and be able to play, it was a great feeling. We didn't get the job done today, but I'll cherish this moment forever.' The move comes as the Astros placed outfielder Jake Meyers on the 10-day injured list with a right calf strain retroactive to Thursday. They also transferred INF/OF Zach Dezenzo to the 60-day injured list to make room for Matthews on the 40-man roster. The injury to Meyers is another setback for the Astros, who were already without shortstop Jeremy Peña and slugger Yordan Alvarez because of injuries. Meyers has had a strong season and is hitting .308 with three homers and 21 RBIs. ___ AP MLB:
