Wrexham sign forward Ryan Hardie from Plymouth on three-year deal

New York Times6 hours ago

Wrexham have signed forward Ryan Hardie from Plymouth Argyle.
Phil Parkinson's side are preparing for their first season in the Championship for 43 years with Hardie the first arrival of the window.
The 28-year-old has signed a three-year deal after an undisclosed fee was agreed between the clubs.
Hardie leaves Plymouth after five years, during which the former Scotland youth international scored 74 goals in 248 games.

He joins a long list of senior strikers at the SToK Cae Ras as Wrexham prepare to kick-off life in the second tier following three consecutive promotions.
'To get a full pre-season will be a massive benefit,' says Hardie. 'To get integrated into the squad and learn the way the manager plays and get to know everyone will be important.
'The last couple of seasons, it's been a good experience in the Championship and it's experience I can lean on now. I've enjoyed playing there and I've managed to score a few goals so, hopefully, that can continue.'
Hardie's two years in the Championship before Plymouth were relegated in May yielded 22 goals in 61 starts, plus another 16 appearances from the bench.
With Sam Smith and Jay Rodriguez finishing last season as the first choice partnership in a 3-5-1-1 formation, a number of Wrexham exits seem inevitable in the coming weeks.
Even following the departure of Steven Fletcher and Sam Dalby this summer, Phil Parkinson still has seven strikers at his disposal as Hardie joins Paul Mullin, Ollie Palmer, Jack Marriott, Mo Faal in the squad, alongside Smith and Rodriguez.
Hardie, who joined Plymouth permanently in January 2021 after a couple of loan spells at Home Park, scored the penalty that last season knocked Liverpool out of the FA Cup at the fourth-round stage.

Video: UFC legend Demetrious Johnson submits KSI in 17 seconds

Yeah, KSI never stood a chance. The popular streamer hit the mat with former UFC flyweight champion Demetrius Johnson, challenging him to submit him in less than one minute. KSI got to choose the position in which they would start, and went with full mount – one of the most dominant positions in jiu-jitsu. Yet, despite the positional and weight advantage, KSI only lasted 17 seconds against the flyweight GOAT. He defended the 125-pound title 11 consecutive times, setting and maintaining the record for the most consecutive title defenses in UFC history. "Mighty Mouse" announced his retirement from MMA last September, putting an end to a legendary 15-year-career in MMA. KSI, one of the word's most popular streamers, turned to the combat sports world in recent years. He's specifically been fighting professionally in boxing, and owns his own promotion – Misfits Boxing, which streams on DAZN. Inter Milan ready to turn page in Club World Cup opener: Chivu

New Inter Milan coach Cristian Chivu says his team are ready to put recent disappointments behind them at the Club World Cup (Piero CRUCIATTI) Inter Milan's new coach Cristian Chivu said Monday the Italian giants are ready to put recent history behind them as they prepare for their Club World Cup opener against Mexican side Monterrey. Inter kick off their Group E campaign at the Pasadena Rose Bowl on Tuesday, just over two weeks after being thrashed 5-0 by Paris Saint-Germain in the heaviest UEFA Champions League final defeat in history. Advertisement That mauling in Munich came hard on the heels of domestic heartbreak, with the Italians finishing one point behind eventual champions Napoli after a tense title race that went down to the wire. Chivu, who was last week named as the successor to departing Inter coach Simone Inzaghi, said the Club World Cup represented a chance to turn the page. "You mustn't think about the past," Chivu told a press conference. "We cannot do anything about the past. You can't change the past. "So this is the end of the 2024-2025 season and it is a competition that you need to honour. "A team like Inter comes here, and they need to be the best version of themselves that they can be. Advertisement "We mustn't try to find excuses or alibis for our physical condition or our mental condition. "We are ready. We've worked very hard these past few days. We've been trying to create a united squad and a mental and physical serenity that will allow us to have a good performance." Inter, who also face Japan's Urawa Red Diamonds and Argentina's River Plate in Group E, will be lining up against a Monterrey side led by former Real Madrid stalwart Sergio Ramos, who joined the club earlier this year. "We have a lot of respect for Inter," Ramos said Tuesday. "Obviously they have many more names, they're much bigger favourites than us -- but it's also a great opportunity. "We're going to go toe-to-toe against every opponent and give it our all." rcw/as
