Sheriff: Livingston Parish deputy accused of driving boat while intoxicated demoted

BATON ROUGE, La. (Louisiana First) — A Livingston Parish Sheriff's Office deputy arrested by agents with the Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries (LDWF) in March has been demoted.
Cedric Brignac, 42, was charged with operating a vessel while impaired. LDWF said agents who were patrolling Lake Maurepas in Livingston Parish encountered him a few times before he almost crashed into a wooden barrier. He also had slurred speech.
The incident report stated that Brignac's boat was near the agents. They could smell alcohol coming from his direction. The agents also saw beer cans scattered throughout the boat.
According to the incident report, Brignac admitted to drinking 'about four Natural Lights' and continued to sway during field sobriety tests conducted onshore.

Sheriff Jason Ard confirmed Brignac, formerly a Major in the Training Division, has been demoted to Captain. He was also cited for a first offense of operating a vessel while intoxicated.
'The off-duty incident was self-reported by Brignac (Training Division). The matter was turned over to the District Attorney's Office for processing – just as all other cases are,' Ard said.

McKinley High School moves to temporary location as campus undergoes renovation

BATON ROUGE, La. (Louisiana First) — McKinley High School is temporarily relocating. The move is necessary due to McKinley undergoing renovations. School officials announced that their last day at 800 East McKinley Street will be Wednesday, June 18. After that, McKinley will be located at Kenilworth Middle School. The address is 7600 Boone Drive. According to East Baton Rouge Parish Public Schools, the renovations and improvements are a part of a tax plan approved by voters. While construction is ongoing, students from McKinley High will attend classes at Kenilworth for two years. EBR Schools said they will be reimagining the exterior of the building, renovating some interior spaces, along with other projects. The school system confirmed that there will be a community meeting in the future where architectural renderings will be shown to the public. BATON ROUGE, La. (Louisiana First) — An East Baton Rouge Parish Prison employee was fired after being accused of abusing her dating partner. Alezsha Evans, 31, was placed on administrative leave on June 8 after an investigation into alleged abuse. During the investigation, detectives learned Evans accused her dating partner of hitting her, which resulted in their arrest. According to an affidavit, Evans allegedly choked and struck the victim with a whip, leaving whelps on their arm and a scratch on their chest after an argument outside of their home on June 1. The victim told detectives that Evans took their glasses off their face and broke them. Investigators said the neighbor's doorbell camera captured the incident, which supported the victim's story and identified Evans. The victim showed detectives photos of their injuries that were dated June 1. Evans was arrested and booked into prison on charges of domestic abuse battery and simple criminal damage to property. The sheriff's office said she was hired to work in corrections on May 28. She was fired after a review of the evidence.
