Ujjain set to become centre for peace, spirituality: CM
Ujjain: Chief Minister Mohan Yadav on Friday said that Ujjain is set to become a significant centre for mental peace, spirituality and wellness care, with major infrastructure work currently ongoing in preparation for Simhastha 2028.
"The Wellness Summit in Ujjain attracted investment proposals worth crores. Ujjain aims to become a centre for mental peace, spirituality and wellness care for the country and abroad. Infrastructure improvements, including a new four-lane road and railway station upgrades, are underway to facilitate the 2028 Simhastha. The Kanha Close Duct Project and Sewarkhedi-Silarkhedi Project aim to keep the Shipra River clean and flowing for the holy bath during Simhastha," said Yadav while addressing the Bawdi festival as part of the Jal Ganga Conservation campaign.
The campaign targets water conservation and the improvement of groundwater levels. He also planted a Sindoor tree under the 'Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam' campaign at the Chintaman Ganesh Temple.
The chief minister conducted the bhoomi pujan for various construction projects worth Rs 94 crore at Navakheda village in Ujjain on Friday. Yadav said, "The govt is constructing new roads to connect villages and facilitate transportation.

During the occasion, the chief minister laid foundations for several roads under the Public Works Department, costing Rs 44.40 crore. Additionally, bhoomi pujan was performed for the joint tehsil offices of Makdon, Ujjain city and Khachrod, to be constructed at a cost of Rs 43.88 crore under the revenue department, along with the joint sub-divisional officer office, Ujjain rural and the Government College Badnagar to be constructed under the higher education department.
Yadav mentioned that in the future, the amount provided to beneficiaries under the Ladli Behna Yojana will be increased to Rs 3,000 per month, and the number of medical colleges in the state will rise from 30 to 50.
Earlier in the day, the chief minister attended a felicitation program by the Lokmanya Tilak Education Committee, honouring students and athletes. During his visit to Ujjain, he also inaugurated the Self-Study Zone, Disha Learning Center, park and open gym at the police line.

Procurement boost: Centre doubles cap for direct scientific purchases; researchers get more autonomy
In a bid to speed up scientific research and enhance institutional autonomy, the Centre has revised financial ceilings under the General Financial Rules (GFRs) for procurement of scientific equipment and consumables, ANI reported on Friday. The Finance Ministry notified that vice-chancellors, directors, and academic institutions under specified departments and ministries will now be allowed to make non-Government e-Marketplace (GeM) purchases with relaxed limits and fewer procedural constraints. The move is aimed at reducing procurement delays and giving research institutions greater operational flexibility. According to the new rules, institutions can procure scientific instruments and consumables worth up to Rs 2 lakh without needing quotations — a significant increase from the earlier Rs 1 lakh limit. Purchase committees can now approve procurements up to Rs 25 lakh, up from the previous Rs 10 lakh cap. In another key reform, vice-chancellors and directors have been empowered to approve global tenders for procurements up to Rs 200 crore.
