10 inspiring horse movies that gallop straight to your heart
2. 'Seabiscuit' (2003)
This Depression-era underdog story stars Tobey Maguire, Jeff Bridges and a scrappy horse with the soul of a heavyweight champ. Based on a true story, Seabiscuit is the ultimate against-all-odds tale: a horse too small, a jockey too broken and a nation too sad—until they all start winning. Bonus: the movie features lavish 1930s costuming and enough slow-motion horse galloping to bring a tear to even the most stoic cowboy. 3. 'War Horse' (2011)
Bet you didn't think horse movies could make you cry. Steven Spielberg delivered a sweeping World War I drama centred on a horse named Joey and the teenage boy devoted to him. Joey ends up on the frontlines, galloping through barbed wire and breaking hearts on both sides of the trenches. Bring tissues and a blanket. 4. 'The Horse Whisperer' (1998)
Robert Redford plays a horse therapist, while Scarlett Johansson (in her breakout role) is a traumatised teen. Add a majestic Montana ranch and a horse recovering from a terrible accident, and you've got yourself an emotionally charged romance-drama that's equal parts cowboy ASMR and soul-repair retreat. 5. 'Spirit: Stallion of the Cimarron' (2002)
This animated gem follows a wild mustang voiced by Matt Damon. Spirit battles humans, captivity and colonisation to keep his herd and freedom intact. The movie features Bryan Adams power ballads, sweeping Western landscapes and the kind of noble, untamed energy that makes you want to quit your job and move to Wyoming. 6. 'Horse Girl' (2020)
This one veers sharply into psychological territory. Alison Brie stars as an awkward woman obsessed with her childhood horse and increasingly unsure of what's real. It's more of a meditation on mental illness than dressage, but it's a reminder that for some, horse girl isn't a phase but a cosmic calling. This film is a must-watch if only for its unique take on horse movies. 7. 'Dreamer' (2005)
A wholesome entry starring Dakota Fanning and Kurt Russell about a broken-down racehorse and the little girl who refuses to give up on her. It's got all the warm-and-fuzzy underdog energy of Seabiscuit , just in a more family-friendly, mid-2000s cardigan aesthetic. 8. 'The Black Stallion' (1979)
Part survival epic, part mythic friendship tale, this film follows a boy and an Arabian stallion stranded on a desert island. What follows is gorgeously shot bonding and a comeback story so poetic, it could've been written by Lord Byron (if Lord Byron had a GoPro and a deep affection for slow-motion).

We need to include this on a list of horse movies because there's not enough material for a curation of zebra films. Here, a zebra that thinks it's a racehorse dreams of competing. Absurd? Absolutely. Delightful? Undoubtedly. This talking-animal family comedy proves that with enough heart and a training montage, even a striped outsider can win the Kentucky Derby—or at least your Saturday night. 10. 'Hidalgo' (2004)
Viggo Mortensen, playing a half-Lakota cowboy, rides his mustang across the Arabian desert in an epic endurance race. The horses are majestic, the vibes are Lawrence of Arabia -meets-Wrangler ad, and Viggo looks like he's been kissed by the sun.

New NBA Trade Rumor Emerges for 76ers
New NBA Trade Rumor Emerges for 76ers originally appeared on Athlon Sports. The Philadelphia 76ers are in good shape heading into the offseason as they have the No. 3 pick in the NBA Draft. Nobody would have probably expected that to happen after the 76ers had big expectations coming into the season, but injuries ultimately derailed the team. Advertisement That led them to be near the bottom of the Eastern Conference and allowed them to have the chance of getting a good pick in the lottery. That's what happened, and now the 76ers can pick a player in the draft who will help them in the present but also set them up for the future. Philadelphia 76ers president of basketball operations Daryl Morey addresses the media with head coach Nick Nurse after the game against the Chicago Bulls at Wells Fargo Ross-Imagn Images There are many things that the 76ers can do with the pick if they don't want to stay at No. 3, and there's a possibility that they trade down for a potential player, according to Tate Fraizer. 'I had gotten like a crumb sent my way. Again, everything you get told or that gets brought your way, you take with some level of a grain of salt," Frazier said on the KOC show. Advertisement "But I heard that Kon Knueppel was kind of in the mix as well — as sort of a 'play-now' guy [for the Sixers]. 'I also think there's a world in which maybe a team at six — maybe the Brooklyn Nets or somebody — wants to trade up. Maybe they're able to do something there, get a guy, and trade back to maybe get who they originally wanted. Maybe that's Knueppel, and they get him at seven or eight, or whatever it may be.' The 76ers definitely have options, and if they like a player like Knueppel, who could get picked later in the first round, the 76ers can make a trade and acquire more assets in the process. Promising QB Prospect Decommits From Ole Miss
Promising QB Prospect Decommits From Ole Miss originally appeared on Athlon Sports. The Ole Miss football team is sure to undergo some growing pains this season as they move on from First-Team All-SEC quarterback Jaxson Dart. He is now in the NFL with the New York Giants, so head coach Lane Kiffin and his staff must transition. Advertisement Sophomore Austin Simmons is expected to be the starter under center for the Rebels this year, but Kiffin added a handful of other signal-callers this offseason as well. Behind Simmons, the team now has AJ Maddox, a former four-star recruit who redshirted last season, as well as a trio of transfers. This includes Maealiuaki Smith from Oklahoma State, Trinidad Chambliss from Ferris State, and George Hamsley from Tennessee State. Ole Miss QB Austin Simmons (13) with head coach Lane KiffinPetre Thomas-Imagn Images While Kiffin was certainly invested in transfer portal players this offseason, he also kept an eye on the future. The team had had three-star quarterback Zion Legree verbally committed to be a Rebel since November 2024. Advertisement Unfortunately, On3 Sports' Hayes Fawcett reported on Saturday that Legree decommitted from Ole Miss and reopened his recruitment. The 6-foot-1, 200-pound athlete has 22 other offers currently. Legree is a Florida native with offers to schools like Florida, Georgia, Auburn and Notre Dame. While Ole Miss is still technically in the mix, it seems unlikely that the team will rekindle with the young player. Based on 247 Sports projections, it seems like he could be heading to Wisconsin instead. (AP Photo/Gregory Payan,File) LAS VEGAS (AP) — Two former UFC fighters have filed antitrust lawsuits against the mixed-martial arts behemoth, alleging it operates as a monopoly that restricts their ability to maximize earnings. Phil Davis and Mikhail Cirkunovs, who fought under the name Misha Cirkunov, filed their lawsuits in U.S. District Court in Nevada against the Las Vegas-based UFC. Cirkunovs' complaint was filed on May 23, and Davis' was filed six days later. Advertisement Philadelphia-based Berger Montague, which is represented locally by Las Vegas' Claggett and Sykes, is the law firm for both fighters. A message left with the Las Vegas firm on Monday was not immediately returned. Cirkunovs is seeking $75,000 in damages. Davis didn't specify how much money he is suing for. The UFC reached a $375 million settlement in September in a class-action antitrust lawsuit brought by Cung Le, who filed his claim in 2014. The UFC has not reached an agreement with Kajan Johnson, who filed his lawsuit in 2021. Both recent complaints made references to the Johnson case, with the Cirkunovs' suit saying they were similar. Advertisement 'In previous hearings, Plaintiffs' own counsel expressed strong concerns to the Court about the weaknesses of the Johnson claims,' the UFC said in a statement. 'This new complaint (Cirkunovs) confirms that the plaintiffs in the Johnson case lack the standing to represent the proposed class. 'In addition, it confirms that the majority of fighters signed class-action waivers and agreed to arbitrate their claims instead of resorting to court procedures. We are confident that the facts and the law are on our side in opposing approval of both of these proposed classes.' Davis fought in the UFC from 2010-15 before signing with Bellator MMA, which became the Professional Fighters League this year. He argues that the UFC's presence prevents fighters who aren't even in the organization from receiving competitive wages. Cirkunovs was in the UFC from 2015-22. ___ AP sports:
