Of Notoriety: Cast, presenters announced for annual NWI ‘Listen to Your Mother' on April 27

Describing herself as both 'a teacher' and 'a lifelong Hobartarian,' Carrie Bedwell has also been wearing the halo of being a 'producer and director' for the past seven years, carrying the tradition of an annual Northwest Indiana stage presentation of 'Listen to Your Mother.'
'The goal of every 'Listen to Your Mother' production is to take the audience on a well-crafted, 90-minute journey of diverse true stories about motherhood,' Bedwell explains.
'Being a mom, having a mom, losing a mom, finding a mom, or as many interpretations on the theme of mothering as you can imagine, comprises these annual sharing presentations. From hilarious and heartwarming, to emotionally intense and profound, 'Listen to Your Mother' entertains, energizes, brings community together and leaves everyone feeling a little less alone and a little more understood.'
This year's event is at 3 p.m. Sunday, April 27, and is once again on the mainstage of Hobart Art Theater at 230 Main St. Tickets are $25 and available at the door or call 219-942-1670 or www.brickartlive.com. A portion of funds raised this year benefits Meal on Wheels Northwest Indiana.
'The show will include reading, songs, and poetry, including Nancy Hejna reading poems from her memoir 'Rainbow Hair' throughout the show, sharing her unique story of losing her sons,' Bedwell said.
'This year's themes include parenting the parent, the many roles moms play, generational trauma, leaving a legacy, domestic violence, not being sure about motherhood, not letting family move on, a mother's unconditional love, adoption, losing one's mom, being a pet mom, gaining a daughter via marriage, suicide/don't always listen to your mother, and grandparenting a spirited 8-year-old-teenager.'
The stage idea for the annual production came from 'Give Motherhood A Microphone,' created by Ann Imig, who is credited with founding the concept for 'Listen to Your Mother,' which debuted with the first performance on Mother's Day 2010 at the Barrymore Theatre in Madison, Wisconsin.
Within less than a decade, the show became a localized hit as word spread via creative producers and grew into a grassroots movement, which now spans 50-plus cities and 250 productions staged across North America and still adhering to the key of donating a portion of ticket sales to local nonprofit organizations supporting women and families in need.
Bedwell, who has worked as an English teacher for 31 years, was first cast in one of the productions in 2014 and then took over producing the annual event in 2018. She will be a guest on my weekly radio show 'Of Notoriety' this Thursday at 11 a.m. on WJOB 1230 AM.
In addition to poet Hejna, other presenters this year are Buffy Adams, who works for IYG, North America's longest-running LGBTQ+ youth organization, Mary Lu Cowley, a grandmother and recent widow, Bennett Gallivan, a financial aid advisor at Ivy Tech, Erin Higy, a behavioral therapist, Eunice Jarrett, a retired elementary teacher, Chris Kamstra, an underground singer/songwriter, Amy Lavalley, a lifelong journalist and editor for The Post-Tribune and Chicago Tribune Media, Leena Meisberger, the founder of Light The Way, Gloria 'GoGo' Morris, a technologist and social cause advocate, Alexandra Shloss, a high school teacher and mental health counselor, Marquita Tigner, owner of Super Scholars Learning Academy Childcare Center and Heidi Van Howe, blogger at Pizza-For-Breakfast.com.
Ryan Elinkowski, CEO of Meal on Wheels of NWI, will serve as the afternoon's emcee.

Jennifer Lopez Just Made a Shocking Marriage Confession—And I Didn't See This Coming

Let's be real: life rarely follows a straight path. What works for one person (or couple) might totally flop for someone else. The same goes for love. Some people dust themselves off and jump right back in, while others take a beat and choose a different route entirely. And lately, it seems like Jennifer Lopez is leaning into that second option when it comes to marriage. While performing in Bilbao, Spain on July 15 as part of the European leg of her This Is Me…Now: The Tour, responded to a cheeky fan sign that read, 'J Lo, marry me?' Her response? Not what you'd expect from someone who's been known to wear her heart on her designer sleeve. 'I think I'm done with that,' she said, laughing briefly before continuing with her set. 'I've tried that a few times.' Honestly, I was a little surprised by her answer. Jennifer has always struck me as the ultimate romantic—someone who believes in love no matter how many times it doesn't work out. But also… I get it. After four marriages, anyone might start rethinking their relationship to, well, relationships. To recap: she was married to Ojani Noa (1997–1998), Cris Judd (2001–2003), Marc Anthony (2004–2014) and, most recently, Ben Affleck (2022–2025). That's a lot of love and a lot of lessons. But one thing Jennifer hasn't given up on? Serving a lewk. Back in May, she posted not one but two outfits that had everyone searching for dupes: a pink beachy moment with a bikini and maxi skirt combo and a gingham sundress that gave total Mother's Day goals. So while may be pressing pause on wedding bells, her style game is very much still in full swing. Want all the latest entertainment news sent right to your inbox? Click here. While the FedEx St. Jude Championship unfolded in Memphis without big names like Rory McIlroy, another notable absence was Max Homa. Unlike McIlroy, who skipped the event due to playoff strategy, Homa didn't qualify for the event. But the PGA Tour pro fulfilled his most important role as a dad and husband. (Image Collage | Credits: @maxhoma/Instagram) Instagram On Friday, Homa announced the arrival of his second child, Austin Homa, via Instagram. "Austin Homa! 8/4/25. My wife is a rockstar, and Austin is very unsure of Cam (rightfully so). Our hearts are so full 💙," he captioned his Instagram post, sharing some heartwarming pictures of his wife Lacey, their newborn, and their first son, Cam. The six-time PGA Tour winner had revealed the pregnancy back in April, during the Masters Tournament, where he and Lacey posed in front of Augusta National holding a miniature caddie jumpsuit for Austin. On Friday, the snaps had all four happy faces. Homa met Lacey online in 2013, and the couple married in November 2019. Their relationship has been a steady presence in his life, often featured in his social media posts and interviews. He's praised his wife's resilience and warmth, especially during Cam's complicated birth, which involved multiple surgeries and an extended ICU stay. Not only this, but on Mother's Day this year, Homa expressed his love again, typing, "Happy Mother's Day @lacehoma you are truly amazing and I am impressed every day. We are so lucky to have u in our lives," on Instagram. With Austin's arrival, Homa joins the growing club of PGA Tour dads with two children, including players like Jordan Spieth, Justin Thomas. Though he missed qualifying for the FedExCup Playoffs, finishing 111th in the standings, Homa's priorities were clear. "I need to win. I really need to win because my wife's pregnant and I need to go home," he told reporters during the 3M Open. "We have like two weeks left. It's a little extra stressful, but I think the only way that you can go out and win a golf tournament is by not exactly trying to win a golf tournament. So it's a weird headspace." Homa's next scheduled appearance is expected at the Fortinet Championship in September. It's a familiar venue for him. Homa won there in 2021 and 2022, and it could mark his return to competition. But for now, though, the leaderboard can wait. Max Homa is winning at life. More Golf: FedEx Cup Playoffs: Russell Henley Splashes Barefoot Shot to Avoid Bogey

And he had the girls make handprints." Arnold, who turned 78 on July 30, received a sweet birthday shoutout from Pratt on Instagram Stories, featuring photos of the kids and a message about what a wonderful grandfather and father-in-law he is. "And then Ford—he had me bring Ford back another day and do his handprint," Pratt continued, referencing his baby son. Pratt and Arnold seem to have a close relationship. Arnold appeared on the New Heights podcast last year, sharing that he thinks Pratt is a "fun guy to talk to."
