"This year was unique, loved the way our captain...": Preity pens uplifting post for Punjab Kings team days after their defeat against RCB in IPL final
Mumbai (Maharashtra) [India], June 6 (ANI): A few days after the defeat of Punjab Kings by Royal Challengers Bengaluru in IPL Finals 2025, actor Preity Zinta penned an uplifting message for the 'Sher Squad'.
Priety praised the players for showing a brave fight and grit throughout the season.
'It didn't end the way we wanted it to but....the journey was spectacular ! It was exciting, entertaining & it was inspiring. I loved the fight & the grit our young team, our shers showed through out the tournament. I loved the way our captain, our Sarpanch lead from the front & how Indian uncapped players dominated this IPL,' she wrote, applauding captain Shreyas Iyer, who is fondly called 'Sarpanch sahab' by the fans.
'This year was unique. We smashed records even though we lost key players to injury & national duty, witnessed a pause in the tournament, transferred home games to other states & evacuated a stadium ! We adapted & topped the points table after a decade & fought till the end in an exciting final,' Preity added.
Preity assured her fans that Punjab Kings will make a roaring comeback next year.
'I am so proud of each n every player of Punjab Kings for showing so much character throughout the tournament. A big thank you to each of them and to our support staff and everyone at PBKS for an incredible season. Most of all a HEARTFELT THANK YOU to our - SHER SQUAD - our FANS that stood with us through thick n thin. Whatever we are & how far we have reached is all because of you I promise we will come back to finish the job cuz as of now the job is still half done. Recalling the final game, PBKS won the toss and elected to bowl first.Arshdeep Singh (3/40) and Kyle Jamieson (3/48) applied timely breaks with the ball, while Yuzi Chahal (1/37) also prevented batters from attacking.
While Virat (43 in 35 balls, with three fours) tried to keep the innings together, skipper Rajat Patidar (26 in 16 balls, with a four and two sixes), Jitesh Sharma (24 in 10 balls, with two fours and two sixes) and Liam Livingstone (25 in 15 balls, with two fours) upped the attack enough to help RCB post 190/9 in 20 overs.
In the run-chase, PBKS started well with Priyansh Arya (24 in 19 balls, with four boundaries) and Prabhsimran (26 in 22 balls, with two sixes) stitching a 43-run stand.Josh Inglis (39 in 23 balls, with a four and four sixes) and Shashank Singh (61* in 30 balls, three wins and six sixes) tried their level best to keep up with the rising run rate, but Krunal Pandya (2/17), Yash Dayal (1/18) and Bhuvneshwar Kumar (2/38) put a fine show with the ball to restrict PBKS to 184/7, despite a sensational 22 runs smashed by Shashank in the final over while needing 29. KSCA officials quit hours after HC shield from arrest
Karnataka State Cricket Association's (KSCA) secretary A Shankar and treasurer ES Jairam have resigned from their posts, owing moral responsibility for the tragic stampede at Chinnaswamy Cricket Stadium here on Wednesday, hours after the Karnataka High Court granted them protection from police arrests. In a letter to KSCA president Raghuram Bhat, they said they wished to own moral responsibility though their role was very limited. The stampede and congestion near the stadium led to the death of 11 cricket fans and injuries to scores of others. The resignations followed the state government launching a crackdown on the agencies involved in organising the felicitation events at the Chinnaswamy stadium after Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) won the Indian Premier League (IPL) title for the first time. On Thursday, chief minister Siddaramaiah ordered the arrest of senior executives of RCB, KSCA and event manager DNA Entertainment Network. Shankar and Jairam, along with Bhat, moved the High Court on Friday after the police charged the three organisations with culpable homicide not amounting to murder and other sections under the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita. In their petition, the KSCA office bearers said the association was only a governing body of cricket in Karnataka with affiliation to the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI). It has nothing to do with IPL events and Wednesday's celebrations were organized by RCB franchise and managed by its vendor DNA Entertainment Network, they argued. KSCA's role was limited to making the stadium and its infrastructure available to RCB and DNA. The police, the petitioners alleged, registered the FIR against them under intense pressure and compelling circumstances without any preliminary enquiry.

Earlier, Jeet Chandra upset World No. 34 Ricardo Walther of Germany as Jaipur Patriots recorded a dominant 11-4 win over Ahmedabad SG Pipers. U Mumba's Lilian Bardet continued his fine form with a 2-1 win over Kirill Gerassimenko, setting his team on their way.
