Olivier Giroud to leave MLS side LAFC - World
Olivier Giroud, France's all-time top goalscorer, and Los Angeles FC have mutually agreed to part ways, the MLS club announced on Friday.
The 38-year-old striker, who joined LAFC in May 2024 from AC Milan, will play his last match for the team on Sunday against Vancouver.
"Olivier has been an exemplary professional during his time at LAFC," team co-president and general manager John Thorrington said. "He brought humility and a winning mentality that helped elevate everyone around him."
Giroud has been heavily linked with a move to Ligue 1 club Lille, according to several media reports in France.
Giroud helped LAFC reach the 2024 Leagues Cup final, where he scored his first goal for the club. He also scored in the 2024 US Open Cup final, helping LAFC win the trophy for the first time.
"I want to thank all of the fans, my teammates and the staff at LAFC for making this an enjoyable stop in my career," Giroud said. "I am happy to have played a part in the success of LAFC."
Giroud has scored nearly 300 goals in more than 700 club matches, winning major trophies at Montpellier, Arsenal, Chelsea and AC Milan.
The 2018 World Cup winner leads France's all-time scoring charts with 57 goals.

"The team has worked so hard at the factory and we had new parts this weekend so for Charles to be second and me to be on the second row is fantastic. "I could have been second if I had finished my lap, but we have a lot of positives to take from today –- it has been the best day operationally in a qualifying session for things like timings, information from the team, team operations..." Summing up the team's performance, the veteran called it: "The best and world class. "Ultimately, these last few weeks, we have all pulled together and blocked out all the noise. Pogba signs for Monaco, hoping to revive career - World
Paul Pogba has signed a two-year deal with Ligue 1 side Monaco to return to football after a near two-year absence, the club announced on Saturday. The 2018 World Cup winner has made only 12 appearances across the last three seasons due to injuries, an 18-month doping ban and an extortion case in which he was the victim. Pogba failed a drugs test in August 2023 after a match for Juventus and has been free to return to football since March, although his contract at the Italian giants had been terminated last year. The midfielder will now play club football in Ligue 1 for the first time in his professional career. "I am determined to get back on the pitch, mentally ready, physically ready, it's just a matter of time," the 32-year-old told French television last weekend. Pogba played in the Le Havre youth team before signing for Manchester United in 2009. He made only a handful of first-team appearances for the three-time European champions before signing for Juventus in 2012. Pogba won four consecutive Serie A titles in Turin before rejoining United for a then-world record 105 million euros ($123 million). He moved back to Juventus three years ago but struggled with a series of injuries. In 2024, his brother Mathias was sentenced to three years in prison, with two years suspended, for his role in a plot to extort 13 million euros from Pogba in 2022. Pogba has scored 11 goals in 91 appearances for the France national team, playing a starring role and scoring in their World Cup final victory over Croatia seven years ago. His new club Monaco will play in the Champions League next season after finishing third in Ligue 1 last term. Tennis: Sabalenka hoping to learn lessons from French Open outburst - Omni sports
World number one Aryna Sabalenka is hoping an outburst after her French Open final defeat to Coco Gauff will prove a turning point in maintaining her emotional control in the biggest matches. The three-time Grand Slam champion threw away a one-set lead to lose to the American in Paris earlier this month. Afterwards, Sabalenka described her performance as the "the worst final I've ever played". The Belarusian later apologised to Gauff for her comments and the pair put their differences aside by performing a dance together on the Wimbledon lawns for social media. "I was just completely, like, upset with myself, and emotions got over me. I just completely lost it," said Sabalenka at a pre-Wimbledon press conference on Saturday. "I believe I get overemotional at the last stages of the tournaments because I have this desire of winning. "Sometimes it (gets the better of) me and I can lose control over my emotions. So I would love to improve that at the last stages of the tournament. "But honestly I'm kind of glad what happened to me at Paris because I was able to learn a lot. I was able to sit back and being open to myself, not just to ignore some things. I think I realised a lot of things about myself in those last stages of the tournaments." Sabalenka's comments after the French Open were fiercely criticised in the United States for taking the shine off Gauff's second Grand Slam title. "Of course, she got my respect. She knows it," added Sabalenka. "I'm happy that she was, like, 'yeah, it's all good, don't worry'. As you saw the (dancing) video, I was talking, we are good, we are friends. I hope the US media can be easy on me right now." Sabalenka has never gone beyond the semi-finals on the Wimbledon grass and begins her quest for glory against Canadian qualifier Carson Branstine, a player she admitted to having limited knowledge of. "The other day I opened social media, and she was giving (an) interview. I think she just qualified. I was like, 'Oh my God, this girl is so beautiful!'
