Activate Facebook Dating: A Step-by-Step Guide for iOS and Android Users

Yahoo18-03-2025

Tap the Facebook app's Menu, then go to See more > Dating to set up your profile.
Adjust your settings by tapping the gear icon. Set criteria for matches, connect to Instagram, and more. This article explains how to activate Facebook Dating on iPhone and Android. It also details how to adjust its settings to find matches and how to pause or delete your dating profile.
You need a current Facebook account and must be 18 or older to use the Dating app. You don't have to create a separate dating profile on Facebook, though; it uses the information on your current profile to recommend potential matches based on shared interests.
Follow these steps to get started using Facebook Dating:
Open the Facebook app and tap Menu (three lines) in the upper or lower-right corner. (Menu location varies by mobile platform.)The dating feature is not available on Facebook's website.Tap Dating, or See more > Dating if it's not visible.
Tap Get Started. Follow the prompts to set up your dating profile.
After you share your location and choose a photo, your dating profile will be generated using information from your Facebook account.Customize your Facebook Dating profile by adding more information, photos, and even posts from Instagram.Your profile will also be recommended to others who have Facebook Dating activated. Facebook's dating feature is similar to Bumble and Tinder in that you can't message other users until you both express interest in each other.

Since the dating feature draws information from your regular Facebook profile, you should fill that out as much as possible. There is no separate Facebook Dating app or Facebook Dating site; the feature is integrated into the Facebook app.
Pictures and other content you share via Facebook Dating don't appear on your regular Facebook profile. Conversations on Facebook Dating are also kept separate from your Facebook Messenger conversations.
If you become Facebook friends with someone after matching with them on Facebook Dating, you can still see their dating profile.
The app will begin recommending profiles one at a time. You can go to the Dating section on the Facebook app at any time to see your recommendations.
Here are five actions you can take when using Facebook Dating:
Tap the heart on a user's profile to let them know you like them, or tap the X to pass and see the next profile. If they like you back, you can start a conversation.
If someone else likes your profile, you'll receive a notification. Tap the heart on their profile to like them back so that you can send a direct message.
You can view your matches and conversations by tapping Matches at the top of the app.
Scroll to the bottom of your profile and tap Add Hobbies or Add music to fill out your profile with additional information to help others understand if you're a good match.
You can also add photos and share Instagram posts at the bottom of your profile.
Changing a few settings will change how the Facebook Dating app works for you.
Tap the gear on the screen where Facebook suggests profiles to access the settings.
In the Ideal Match tab, set your preferred criteria for potential matches. This might include gender, location, age range, education level, and smoking preference.
The General tab lets you view matches you've passed on, connect to Instagram, control notification settings, and more.
You can match with your Facebook friends and Instagram followers through the secret crush feature. To do so, scroll to the bottom of the screen where the app suggests profiles, and then select Crush.
You can then select friends on Facebook and Instagram. If they are set up to use Facebook Dating, they'll get a notification that someone has a crush on them, but they won't know who. If they also add you to their secret crushes, then you will be matched. The app won't suggest any of your current Facebook friends and your dating profile won't be visible to any friends who use the feature. However, friends can add each other to their secret crushes list, so you could match with a friend if they have a crush on you. It's possible to delete your Facebook Dating profile without deleting your regular Facebook profile, but deleting your account will remove you from Facebook Dating. Everything you have set up on the app will be gone, from matches to messages, although Facebook does still retain technical information, such as IP and email addresses you used.
To delete your dating profile, follow these steps:
Tap the gear on the screen where Facebook suggests profiles to access the settings.
Tap the General tab.
Tap Delete Profile > Delete Profile.
Optionally, select a reason for quitting Facebook Dating, or tap Skip. Tap Next to finalize your Facebook Dating profile deletion. If you delete a Facebook Dating profile, you have to wait seven days before making a new one.Related: Learn more about turning off FB Dating permanently or temporarily
If you don't want to permanently delete Facebook Dating, you can take a break instead. Toggle on the Take a Break switch from the app's General settings tab.
This pauses your account, retains all your data, and lets you get back into the app easily when you're ready.
Before you meet someone you know online in person, you should always tell a friend where you're going. It's also a good idea to communicate with them over text or Facebook Messenger so that they know you are safe.
If you want to block a user from contacting you or seeing your profile, you can do so through the Privacy Settings option in the General tab of the settings.

How can I get Facebook Dating back after I deleted it?
You'll be able to reinstall the app and create a new dating profile after seven days have passed. Facebook won't allow you to do it before that full week is over. To start again, open your Facebook account and tap Menu > Dating. Then, set up a new profile just as you did previously.
Why is Facebook Dating unavailable?
The app might be down or need an update, you might have notifications blocked, your mobile device's cache might need to be cleared, or you could be having internet connection problems. To fix it when Facebook Dating isn't working, try updating the app and turning on notifications.

Get a Nintendo Switch 2 Screen Protector as Soon as Possible, Even if You Think You Don't Need One

For those who've managed to get their hands on a Nintendo Switch 2, there are few larger worries than accidentally scratching the screen of your shiny new toy. With the console being so hard to get in the first place, the last thing anyone wants is to scuff it up during their first few days of ownership -- and it's easy to cause screen scratches if you're not careful. Note that the Nintendo Switch 2 comes with a preinstalled screen film that is designed to remain in place. It doesn't provide particularly great scratch resistance, though, and is more designed to protect against splinters of glass should you crack your screen. Fortunately, even at this very early stage, plenty of accessory makers have released Nintendo Switch 2 screen protectors to keep things in tip-top shape for as long as possible. We've not had a chance to test all of these yet, but we've rounded up plenty of options that are in stock, easy to install and cover a variety of prices. Dbrand's Prism 2.0 set comes with two screen protectors and promises to be idiot-proof in terms of installation. That's a bit over the top, but we've all applied a screen protector wrong at least once, and these bad boys aim to avoid that issue. Plus, you get two screen protectors in the box if you want a spare or if you were lucky enough to get hold of two Switch 2s in your household. See at Dbrand GameStop is offering its own branded Switch 2 screen protector. It's $15 for one tempered glass screen protector that promises to "maintain pristine clarity and touch responsiveness with Anti-Scratch resistant for a clear and epic gaming experience." We haven't tested it out yet, but at least you can grab one of these in store and go back there to complain if it doesn't live up to the billing. See at GameStop A lot of the early accessories on offer come from brands that may be unfamiliar to you, but Spigen is a reputable name in the tech space. It's offering two tempered-glass Nintendo Switch 2 screen protectors for $25 and includes its auto-alignment installation kit for "effortless" application. See at Amazon Walmart's budget Onn brand has released a Switch 2 screen protector and it's an affordable option at under $13. It's made with glass from Corning, the same company that makes iPhone screens, and should be easy to align correctly with the included application tray. See at Walmart It's always a good idea to have an extra screen protector on hand. This affordable pack of three ensures you'll have backups. The Jsaux screen protectors are made with tempered glass and come with a guiding frame for easy installation. Be sure to click the on-page coupon to save an extra 10%. See at Amazon The official option is also available. It's $40, which is more than some others, but it also comes with a hard carrying case to make it easier to transport your Nintendo Switch 2. It's currently out of stock online at the major third-party retailers, but you may find local stock if you're lucky. Alternatively, you can order via Nintendo if you have an active invitation to shop there. Just note that this one is plastic as opposed to glass and it has no alignment tray. See at Nintendo More Nintendo Switch 2 screen protectors: Mumba tempered glass screen protector, 2-pack: $17 Ivoler tempered glass screen protector, 3-pack: $8 JETech tempered glass screen protector, 2-pack: $8 Next Elite tempered glass screen protector, 2-pack: $11 Jsaux anti-glare screen protector, 2-pack: $8 FilmExt anti-reflection screen protector: $12 We've not had a chance to test all of the options yet, as the Nintendo Switch 2 is still so new, so we're looking at reviews and the general quality of the brands making each screen protector. It's because of this that the official option is currently our top pick, but that could change as we get a chance to test every option.

Apple WWDC underwhelms fans in a crucial upgrade

Apple WWDC underwhelms fans in a crucial upgrade originally appeared on TheStreet. Do you know about Asch conformity experiments? Solomon Asch performed them in the 1950s. He invited individuals into the lab and asked them to judge the length of a line. He also placed 6 actors in the same room who were assigned to give the wrong answers so that the ignorant subject could hear them before he provided his own answer. On average, 35% of the subjects followed the opinions of the actors even if their answer was obviously wrong. That is horrifying. What is even worse is that the study has been replicated numerous times. Now, imagine a scenario in which the actors are given money immediately after giving the wrong answer, and the subject can see that too. What would be the percentage of subjects that gave the wrong answer then? That study hasn't been done, but I think we are witnessing something similar unfolding in the tech space. Marketing is everything. If artificial intelligence were called "pattern matching and transformation," it would not sound so cool, would it? Alas, there is precisely zero intelligence in AI. It is just pattern matching and transformation. This is why it hallucinates so much. The farther away from its training data the query you give to the AI is, the crazier the reply you'll get. Public companies don't do marketing just for consumers; they also need to attract investors. And when everyone around you starts hyping AI to attract investors, you may find yourself in a dilemma - is it OK to promise something you probably can't deliver? Apple () seems stuck in this dilemma but also faces significant pressures outside AI. President Trump's threat of a 25% tariff on iPhones not manufactured in the U.S. put Apple under pressure. The company expects tariffs to add $900 million to its costs for the current quarter. I've already written why large language models can't become sentient. But Apple can't afford to say that. They carefully dance around it by occasionally releasing a research paper on AI's limitations, but that usually looks like a jab at the competition. The company's management probably feels like a person in Asch's experiment, except that the actors are the competitors. Rivals promise stuff from science fiction, but that is still attracting investors. Chaos created by unrealistic marketing is real. Microsoft recently invested in an AI company that went bankrupt. The company had no AI but a huge number of humans doing the launched its AI blog in June, seemingly planning to show that AI can replace writers. They killed this project after just one week. It looks like AI companies are playing a game of telephone on the inside, and that is how that project got greenlit. More Tech Stocks: Palantir gets great news from the Pentagon Analyst has blunt words on Trump's iPhone tariff plans OpenAI teams up with legendary Apple exec Apple is held to a much higher standard by consumers than other companies. The company can't afford the luxury of delivering subpar products. In a world full of people with crippled attention spans from watching TikTok and YouTube shorts, Apple delivered an hour and a half of pure boredom. I don't have a problem watching long informative videos, but this one wasn't that. Thank you, YouTube, for the video speed settings—a lifesaver. Apple has veered off course due to pressure. Their new design language, Liquid Glass, isn't original. Windows Aero was trendy in 2006. The Linux desktop environment KDE Plasma has featured numerous transparent/glass themes over the last 17 Apple did it with more polish. But transparency and monochrome icons ruin accessibility. They are cool-looking only if you are a child. You don't have time for distractions if you have work to do. As for the big AI reveal that some people were hoping for, there wasn't one. The best feature they presented was a call translator. I am not sure how many people need it, but those who do will greatly appreciate it. Long-time fund manager Chris Versace, wrote on TheStreet Pro "It is hard to disagree, at least for now, that Apple is taking, as some have called it, a 'gap year' on Apple Intelligence, but one of the great advantages the company has is its developer community and that's the core audience for WWDC." Apple used to have a slogan, "Think different." Well, if the company thinks differently, it ain't showing WWDC underwhelms fans in a crucial upgrade first appeared on TheStreet on Jun 12, 2025 This story was originally reported by TheStreet on Jun 12, 2025, where it first appeared.
