Pixar taps ‘Elemental' director Peter Sohn for ‘Incredibles 3' as Brad Bird hands over the reins

The Hindu11-06-2025
Pixar has officially named Peter Sohn as the director of Incredibles 3, marking a major shift for the beloved superhero franchise. Brad Bird, who wrote and directed the first two films, will remain involved as screenwriter and producer but will not direct the third installment.
Sohn, a Pixar veteran known for directing Elemental and The Good Dinosaur, takes over a franchise that has grossed $1.8 billion globally. The first Incredibles debuted in 2004 and won the Academy Award for Best Animated Feature. Its long-awaited sequel, Incredibles 2, was released in 2018 and brought in over $1.2 billion at the box office.
Bird's decision to step back from directing comes as he begins pre-production on Ray Gunn, his upcoming sci-fi noir project with Skydance. Despite the change in leadership, Bird is staying closely connected to Incredibles 3 as both co-writer and producer alongside Dana Murray (Soul).
Sohn's appointment reflects a longstanding creative relationship with Bird and Pixar. He has contributed to every Bird-led animated film to date and was handpicked by Bird and Pixar's Chief Creative Officer Pete Docter to carry the story forward.
The Incredibles series centers on Bob and Helen Parr (voiced by Craig T. Nelson and Holly Hunter), a married couple raising three super-powered children in a world where heroes have gone underground. Returning cast members include Samuel L. Jackson and Sarah Vowell.
No release date has been announced yet for Incredibles 3, which was confirmed at Disney's D23 Expo in 2024. Meanwhile, Pixar is preparing for the June 20 release of Elio, directed by Madeline Sharafian and Domee Shi, and starring Yonas Kibreab, Zoe Saldaña, and Jameela Jamil.

Leonardo DiCaprio turned down Boogie Nights for Titanic — and now reveals why the decision still bothers him decades later

Leonardo DiCaprio has acknowledged that even with his decades-long success and an Academy Award, there is one role he still wishes he had taken. Speaking with filmmaker Paul Thomas Anderson for Esquire's Mavericks of Hollywood issue, DiCaprio revealed that turning down the lead in Anderson's 1997 film Boogie Nights is the decision he most regrets. The part ultimately went to Mark Wahlberg, and the film went on to earn widespread acclaim, multiple Academy Award nominations, and a lasting reputation as one of the defining movies of its era. The role that got away In the interview, Anderson asked DiCaprio if there were any moments in his career he would change. 'I'll say it even though you're here: My biggest regret is not doing Boogie Nights,' DiCaprio said. He described the film as 'a profound movie of my generation' and said that upon finally watching it, he considered it 'a masterpiece.' The actor also noted the irony of making the admission to the film's director. At the time the role was offered, DiCaprio had already committed to James Cameron's Titanic, which became a global success. Mark Wahlberg's perspective Wahlberg, who played Eddie Adams — later known as adult film star Dirk Diggler — has spoken openly about the project. In 2017, he commented that he hoped 'God is a movie fan and also forgiving,' citing the film among the roles he once questioned. He later clarified that the remark came during a talk with students about faith and choices, adding that some decisions might not align with religious values. When asked whether he would accept a similar role today, Wahlberg said it would likely not be well received by his wife, Rhea Durham, or their four children. From missed opportunity to new collaboration Although Boogie Nights did not bring them together, DiCaprio and Wahlberg have shared the screen in both The Basketball Diaries (1995) and The Departed (2006). The new Esquire conversation comes ahead of the release of One Battle After Another, marking DiCaprio's first collaboration with Anderson. leonardo dicaprio and kate winslet on the set of 'titanic' in 1997. The upcoming action-thriller stars DiCaprio as Bob Ferguson, a former revolutionary pursued by Sean Penn's police character, Steven Lockjaw. The cast also includes Teyana Taylor, Wood Harris, Alana Haim, Regina Hall, Benicio del Toro, and Chase Infiniti. DiCaprio described the film as a long-gestating project for Anderson and said he had been eager to work with the director for 'something like 20 years.' Denzel Washington on Oscars: Not that interested

Agency: PTI Last Updated: Los Angeles, Aug 14 (PTI) Denzel Washington has won the Academy Award twice but says awards are hardly a motivating factor for him. During the press tour of his new film 'Highest 2 Lowest", Washington told journalist Jake Hamilton, 'I don't do it for Oscars. I don't care about that kind of stuff." 'I've been at this a long time, and there's time when I won and shouldn't have won and then didn't win and should've won. Man gives the award. God gives the reward." Washington explained. Addressing his two Oscar wins and nine Academy Award nominations, he said 'I'm not that interested in Oscars. People ask me, 'Where do I keep it?' Well, next to the other one. On my last day, [Oscars] aren't going to do me a bit of good." The actor won his first Academy Award for Best Supporting Actor for 'Glory" in 1990. In 2002, he was honoured with the Best Actor award for 'Training Day", alongside Ethan Hawke, who was nominated. Hawke last year recalled Washington's indifference towards the Oscars in an interview with Chris Wallace. 'You don't want an award to improve your status. You want to improve the award's status. That's the way he thinks," Hawke explained. In his prolific career, Washington has starred in a plethora of prestigious and commercially successful titles, including 'Malcolm X", 'Inside Man", 'The Tragedy of Macbeth", 'Fight" and 'Fences". Washington will later be seen in Spike Lee's 'Highest 2 Lowest", a reinterpretation of Akira Kurosawa's 1963 film 'High and Low". Mira Sorvino is about to cross off something else on her bucket list. The Academy Award winner will make her Broadway debut this fall in 'Chicago,' playing the spotlight-seeking Roxie Hart from Sept. 15-Nov. 2 at the Ambassador Theatre. 'I have wished to dance and sing in a Broadway musical since I was a small child. To join 'Chicago,' such a legendary show, and such an incredible cast past and present, is literally a dream come true,' Sorvino said in a statement Wednesday. STORY CONTINUES BELOW THIS AD Set in the 1920s, 'Chicago' is a scathing satire of how show business and the media make celebrities out of criminals. It has Bob Fosse-inspired choreography, skimpy outfits and killer songs such as 'All That Jazz' and 'Cell Block Tango.' Sorvino won an Academy Award, a Golden Globe and a Critics' Choice Award for her performance in 'Mighty Aphrodite,' going on to such films as Spike Lee's 'Summer of Sam,' Antoine Fuqua's 'Replacement Killers,' Robert Redford's 'Quiz Show' and the cult comedy 'Romy and Michelle's High School Reunion.' 'Chicago' tells the story of Roxie, a housewife and dancer who murders her on-the-side lover after he threatens to leave her. To avoid conviction, Roxie hires Chicago's slickest criminal lawyer to help her dupe the public, media and her rival cellmate, Velma Kelly, by creating shocking headlines. Roxie has been played by dozens of women since the show opened in 1996, including Pamela Anderson, Melanie Griffith, Ashley Graham. Christie Brinkley, Marilu Henner, Brooke Shields, Lisa Rinna, Gretchen Mol, Ashlee Simpson, Brandy Norwood, Jennifer Nettles and Robin Givens.
