Alas Pilipinas Men outlast Thailand, complete sweep of Invitationals
After Thailand led 3-1 in the final set, the nationals made a 4-0 run to take the lead, before Leo Ordiales' attack went out. He made up for it however by scoring back-to-back to take a 7-4 lead. The Thais eventually caught up and led 10-9 before the Philippines made a 3-0 run capped by a Marck Espejo ace. The national team veteran had a service error but Buds Buddin came in clutch to put the Philippines at match point. Thailand salvaged one before Espejo punctuated the match.
Espejo led Alas' offense with 31 points from 24 attacks, 6 aces, and a block, while Louie Ramirez and Steven Rotter had 15 and 13 points, respectively.

The Alas Pilipinas Men recently wrapped up their training in Romania and will head to Portugal for the third leg of their camp. Last week, the team also trained in Morocco. Bryan Bagunas, one of the Alas Pilipinas veterans, shared a glimpse of what their training camp looks like. 'We eat together, train hard together and push each other,' Bagunas said in a release from the Philippine National Volleyball Federation (PNVF). 'Training here is intense in the morning and in the afternoon session, we focus on strength, conditioning and game systems,' he added. Bagunas is part of the Philippines' wide roster recently released by World Volleyball for the global tourney. 'Coach Angiolino has been pushing us to be disciplined and smart on the court, and I think that's making a big difference in our preparation." The Philippines will open its campaign in the World Championship against Tunisia on September 12, leaving the national team with less than a month of preparations. Alas Pilipinas Women repeat over Indonesia to claim 4th straight SEA V. League bronze
The Alas Pilipinas Women stood their ground in the endgame to complete a 25-17, 25-17, 28-16 win against Indonesia and capture the bronze medal in the 2025 SEA V. League Leg 2 on Sunday in Vietnam. The win allowed the Filipinas to seize the country's fourth straight third-place finish as the Indonesians settled for fourth place for the fourth time in a row. The victory, however, wasn't without a scare as Alyssa Solomon had to be stretchered off the court after suffering an apparent left knee injury while attempting to save a Megawati Pertiwi attack, with Alas leading 17-11 in Set 1. But the Filipinas powered through and closed out the opening frame before dominating Set 2 behind Eya Laure, Bella Belen, Angel Canino, and Shaina Nitura, who stepped in for the injured Solomon. Alas then had a slow start to the third set with Devega Salsabila bringing the Indonesians to a 14-10 cushion before another kill from her made it a 16-13 lead. Belen then led a 4-2 rampage to cut the deficit to a solitary point, 17-18, but Indonesia clinched a crucial 22-20 lead following a strong open kill from Mediol Yoku. Laure converted three straight attacks to tie things up at 23-all, but her service error saw Indonesia take the set point. Belen breathed life into Alas by scoring two consecutive points, including a hammer from the left wing that sent Alas to the match point at 25-24. Indonesia would force another deadlock and even took another set point after a service ace from Putri Agustin, 26-25. Belen and Canino, however, delivered the next two points before Salsabila went wide on her final attack as Alas completed the hard-fought sweep. —JKC, GMA Integrated News

Gallant Alas Pilipinas yields to Thailand in SEA V. League Leg 2
The Alas Pilipinas Women strung together a mighty Set 3 turnaround, but faded late to absorb a 22-25, 17-25, 26-24, 16-25 loss to Thailand in Leg 2 of SEA V. League Leg 2 on Saturday in Ninh Binh, Vietnam. The Filipinas, who were coming off a straight-sets loss to another Asian powerhouse Vietnam yesterday, overcame an early deficit in the third frame to extend the match but the defending champions Thais pulled away to remain unbeaten at 2-0. Down four in Set 3, 17-21, Alas unleashed three unanswered points capped by a Bella Belen attack before Maddie Madayag and Shaina Nitura connived at the net to deny Pimpichaya Kokram and deliver the first set point, 24-23. Thailand tied it at 24-all on a Sasipapron Janthawisut back row kill, but Angel Canino displayed her clutch plays after clinching the last two points to drag the eight-time SEA V. League gold medalists to a fourth set. Alas kept it close in the fourth with Nitura attacking from the right side for an 8-7 spread, but the Thais went on a tear with Kokram serving an ace to bring the world no. 21 Thailand to a 21-12 cushion. Middle blocker Wimonrat Thanapan completed a running play that sent Thailand to a 23-15 lead as another mainstay in Chatchu-on Moksri fired from the left side to clinch the match point, 24-15. Thatdao Nuekhang took advantage of an overpass from Justine Jazareno, finishing off the Filipinas as Thailand set up a golden medal duo with Vietnam on Sunday. The Philippines, meanwhile, will shoot for a bronze medal when it takes on Indonesia (0-2) tomorrow. A win by Alas will capture the country's fourth straight podium finish in the tournament. —JKC, GMA Integrated News
