Political, financial angles emerge in Congress leader's murder probe
Special teams from Medak police, probing the murder, have found that Anil—who had been reportedly actively involved in financial settlements and loan recovery work over the past two years—had made several enemies in the process. Among the angles being probed is a dispute involving the family of an Andhra Pradesh legislator, with whom Anil is believed to have had a fall-out.
Police revealed that Anil was working on behalf of a Hyderabad-based businessman, assisting in recovering loans disbursed to various individuals.
One such high-stakes case involved the grandson of a prominent AP politician, who had borrowed ₹50 lakh from the businessman.

'Anil managed to recover ₹39 lakh from the grandson, but there was an ongoing dispute over the remaining ₹11 lakh,' a police investigator said. 'We are investigating whether this conflict had any link to Anil's murder,' he said.
Further complicating the case is the Mercedes Benz in which Anil was travelling at the time of his death.

Police found that the car belonged to a 70-plus paralysed person from Gachibowli, who allegedly owed ₹50 lakh to the same businessman. 'As no repayment was made, Anil took the Benz car as collateral, effectively using it to pressure the debtor,' a senior officer said.
Police sources said Anil came from a poor financial background. 'His parents are small farmers. He recently owned an i10 car and remained unmarried. He had taken to doing settlements and money recovery work, which seems to have earned him powerful adversaries,' the official added.
Investigators suspect that contract killers may have been hired by someone holding a deep grudge against Anil. 'We are verifying all possible motives, including professional enmity and financial disputes,' the official said.
Medak district superintendent of police DV Srinivasa Rao said special teams are actively scanning CCTV footage from various locations and questioning suspects in connection with the case. 'The investigation is progressing. We will reveal further details once the case is solved,' the SP added.

India rejects NATO chief's threat of secondary sanctions over ties with Russia, cautions against ‘double standards'
In a firm response to NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte's threat of secondary sanctions over New Delhi's ties with Moscow, India on Thursday cautioned against "double standards" on the matter and asserted that its energy procurement from Russia is based on national interests and market dynamics. data-vars-page-type="story" data-vars-link-type="Manual" data-vars-anchor-text="Rutt had warned India, China and Brazil">Rutt had warned India, China and Brazil that they could be hit hard by secondary sanctions if they continue to do business with Russia. "We have seen reports on the subject and are closely following the developments. Let me reiterate that securing energy needs of our people is understandably an overriding priority for us," external affairs ministry spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal said at his weekly media briefing. "In this endeavour, we are guided by what is on offer in the markets, and by the prevailing global circumstances. We would particularly caution against any double standards on the matter," he said. Asked about US President Donald Trump threatening 100 per cent tariff on Russian exports and "secondary tariffs" on any country that has trade links with Moscow, Jaiswal said: "We are closely following developments that are in this regard, and the articulations that are being made." India, China and Brazil have been the major buyers of Russian crude oil notwithstanding the Western sanctions on Moscow for its invasion of Ukraine. "My encouragement to these three countries, particularly is, if you live now in Beijing, or in Delhi, or you are the president of Brazil, you might want to take a look into this, because this might hit you very hard," Rutte told reporters in Washington DC. "So please make the phone call to Vladimir Putin and tell him that he has to get serious about peace talks, because otherwise this will slam back on Brazil, on India and on China in a massive way," he said. The NATO chief's remarks coincided with Trump's warning to Russia of major significant trade restrictions if it does not reach a peace deal with Ukraine within 50 days. "We're going to be doing very severe tariffs (on Russia) if we don't have a deal in 50 days," Trump said on Tuesday. India, China and Brazil are members of the BRICS and Trump has been critical of the grouping as well. Earlier this month, Trump had threatened BRICS member nations of 10 per cent additional tariffs on exports to the US apart from reciprocal tariffs. Any country aligning themselves with the Anti-American policies of BRICS will face those duties, he said. On the proposed trade deal between India and the US, Jaiswal said negotiations between the two sides are underway. "Both sides are in touch with each other. They are trying to iron out issues," he said. On India's negotiations with the European Union for the long-pending free trade pact, Jaiswal said talks are "progressing very well". "The last round, that is the 12th round, happened in Brussels from July 7th to 11th. And the next round of talks are scheduled to be held in September in New Delhi. "It (talks) is progressing well. There is good momentum. And that is how, and we would like to see a positive outcome of it," he added.

Kerala Woman Found Dead In Toronto Apartment, Family Awaits Autopsy Report
Last Updated: 25-year-old Anita, who worked at a bank in Canada, was found dead by her housemates. Her autopsy has been completed, Canadian authorities said. A 25-year-old woman from Kerala was found dead in her Toronto apartment earlier this week, local media reported. The deceased, identified as Anita Benans, hailed from Aishwarya Nagar in Eravipuram, Kollam, according to Kerala-based news outlet Mathrubhumi. Anita, who had completed her master's in business management, was working at a bank in Canada. She was reportedly unwell and had been on medical leave for two days before her death. On Tuesday afternoon, her housemates found her unresponsive in the bathroom and alerted the police, Onmanorama reported. The Canadian police shifted the body to a hospital, where an autopsy was conducted on Thursday. While the post-mortem is complete, the authorities have said the body will only be released to the family after their investigation is over. Anita had spoken to her mother, Rajani, on Monday, mentioning she was suffering from fever. She is survived by her father, Benans Alphonse, a Gulf returnee, her homemaker mother, and her younger brother Nikhil, a Class 11 student. A case has been registered, and Canadian police are carrying out a detailed probe into the circumstances of her death. One of her cousins has reached Toronto to assist the family, Onmanorama said.
