Kolhapur Municipal Corporation blacklists contractor for delay in works
Kolhapur: The civic administration has blacklisted a Solapur-based contractor who failed to start a project involving the plantation of 5,000 trees on roadsides within the corporation limits. The contract also included the maintenance of the trees for 2 years.
Contractor Akash Uttam Kanade was given the work order last Oct. However, despite three notices issued, he failed to start the work.
When Kanade did not respond to any of the three notices issued to him, repeated attempts were made to contact him via various mediums, an official of the
Kolhapur Municipal Corporation
(KMC) said. "A final notice was issued on April 15, which also went unanswered. Eventually, we confiscated the security deposit paid by the contractor, and blacklisted him. He will not be able to bid for any works floated by
KMC
in the future," said a senior civic official.
The public works department of KMC had floated the work, totalling Rs 77.22 lakh, for planting trees along roads.

NIA court directs protection of witnesses in Gurugram twin blasts case
1 2 Chandigarh: The special NIA court for Haryana in Panchkula has directed the police and central agencies to ensure the protection of six key witnesses named in the chargesheet filed by the investigative agency in connection with the twin blasts outside two nightclubs in Gurugram on Dec 24 last year. While directing the investigating agencies and law enforcement authorities to ensure the protection of witnesses, the NIA court, presided over by Additional District and Sessions Judge Rajiv Goyal, also directed the protection of relevant and crucial documents containing statements and details of witnesses. Notably, on Friday, NIA filed a voluminous chargesheet before the NIA court. While filing the chargesheet, the agency termed the incident as part of a plot to create terror as operations of the Babbar Khalsa International (BKI) group and indicted Goldy Brar, the Canada-based gangster and terrorist, and US-based Randeep Singh, aka Randeep Malik, as accused in the case. According to the chargesheet, the group is alleged to be involved in fundraising through extortions and other illicit means, procurement of explosives and weapons to create terror, and other anti-national activities. Notably, while filing the chargesheet, NIA also moved an application for the safety and security of witnesses as protected ones. BENGALURU: Struggling to come to terms with the tragedy that has struck them, the families of the victims of the stampede outside M Chinnaswamy Stadium have one question: "Who gave permission for the entire victory celebrations that claimed our loved ones?" Ashwini UL, mother of one of the stampede victims, Divyanshi, asked: "My first question to the govt is who wanted this function? What was the need for arranging the felicitation function in front of Vidhana Soudha or announcing the roadshow and organising a victory celebration function in the stadium on June 4 when the entire city celebrated the victory overnight till the early hours? Why didn't the authorities make arrangements before inviting fans?" Not just Ashwini, the families of the 10 others who died in the stampede are searching for similar answers. Though chief minister Siddaramaiah has blamed police and maintained that nothing untoward happened during the felicitation attended by him in front of Vidhana Soudha, the families aren't convinced. "How can he say this? Isn't the stadium near Vidhana Soudha and didn't he know that fans will throng the stadium, barely 800 metres from Vidhana Soudha?
