Bahrain Launches Third Edition of Princess Sabeeka Global Award for Women's Empowerment

Her Royal Highness Princess Sabeeka bint Ibrahim Al Khalifa, Consort of His Majesty King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa and President of the Supreme Council for Women (SCW), has reaffirmed Bahrain's dedication to advancing global efforts for women's empowerment with the launch of the third edition of the Princess Sabeeka bint Ibrahim Al Khalifa Global Award for Women's Empowerment.
HRH Princess Sabeeka made these remarks in a recorded speech during the award launch event, held on the sidelines of the 69th session of the United Nations Commission on the Status of Women (CSW). She underscored the award's significance as a platform for promoting sustainable initiatives that empower women worldwide.
Highlighting the award's success over the past two editions, HRH Princess Sabeeka expressed pride in its role in showcasing exemplary projects that support women across different nations. She noted that the launch of the third edition aligns with Bahrain's silver jubilee celebrations of His Majesty the King's accession to the throne, reinforcing the Kingdom's commitment to fostering women's contributions to their communities and sustainable development.
Calling for global participation, HRH Princess Sabeeka encouraged government institutions, private sector entities, civil society organizations, and individuals to engage with the award to strengthen its impact and align with international efforts to achieve sustainable development goals.
Lulwa Al Awadhi, Secretary General of the SCW, emphasized the award's importance as a global platform that promotes women's empowerment across various sectors. She expressed appreciation to UN Women for its continued collaboration in managing the previous editions and launching the third.
Al Awadhi also praised the role of the UN Women Regional Office in overseeing the award's implementation and ensuring its objectives are met worldwide. She reiterated Bahrain's commitment to supporting initiatives that promote gender equality and advance women's participation at local, regional, and international levels.
Dr. Sima Bahous, Executive Director of UN Women and Chair of the Award Committee, underscored the award's role in supporting global women's empowerment programs. She highlighted the significant contributions of past winners in advancing gender equality and praised Bahrain's dedication to sustainable development goals.
Dr. Moez Doraid, Regional Director of UN Women in the Arab States, described the award as a model of effective partnership between Bahrain and UN Women. He noted that the third edition builds on the success of its predecessors, which attracted participation from over 90 countries and increased private sector engagement due to awareness efforts by UN Women.
The Bahraini delegation, led by Lulwa Al Awadhi, continues its participation in the 69th session of the CSW, which runs until March 21. The delegation attended a side event organized by the Saudi Family Affairs Council in collaboration with the League of Arab States, titled "Perspectives on the Care Economy," featuring discussions on policies from Saudi Arabia, Morocco, South Africa, and the Arab League.
Additionally, the delegation participated in a session titled "Women in Gaza," organized by the Arab League in partnership with UN Women. On the sidelines, Al Awadhi held discussions with Dr. Abdulaziz Al Wasel, Permanent Representative of Saudi Arabia to the UN and Chair of the CSW session, and Buthaina bint Ali Jabr Al Nuaimi, Minister of Social Development and Family of Qatar, to explore regional women's achievements and strategies for further empowerment.
The Princess Sabeeka bint Ibrahim Al Khalifa Global Award for Women's Empowerment continues to be a key initiative in advancing gender equality and promoting sustainable development worldwide.

She noted that this would enhance the achievement of national goals and amplify the programme's positive impact on shaping a brighter and more prosperous future for the youth of the Kingdom. Under the agreement, a strategic partnership will be established between the two sides to support the objectives of Lamea and enhance its youth-oriented outcomes. Shaikha Dhuwa bint Khalid bin Abdullah Al Khalifa affirmed that the agreement with Bapco Energies is a significant addition to the Lamea project, describing it as an investment in the potential of young people with the ability to contribute and innovate. She noted that the partnership is expected to open broader horizons, deliver notable results, and reflect a shared vision of preparing a creative and ambitious Bahraini generation capable of actively contributing to the Kingdom's development and prosperity. Mark Thomas, CEO of Bapco Energies, described Lamea as a leading platform and incubator for young Bahraini talent. He highlighted that it provides opportunities to develop skills, foster creativity and innovation, and that the agreement aligns with Bapco Energies' strategy of investing in youth as a key to sustainable development. This was emphasised by Her Excellency Lulwa Saleh Al Awadhi, Secretary General of the Supreme Council for Women (SCW) as she noted this achievement reflects national efforts to empower women and ensure their active participation across sectors. Al Awadhi added that the result shows the strong confidence placed in Bahraini women's abilities, pointing out that female journalists are not only participating in the media field but also contributing to decision-making and shaping future directions. Al Awadhi congratulated Isa Al Shaiji on his re-election as Chairman of the BJA, emphasising the Council's commitment to continued cooperation with media institutions and associations to support development, promote the Kingdom of Bahrain's achievements in women's advancement, and consolidate gender balance and women's empowerment. She also highlighted the impact of the decision by Her Royal Highness Princess Sabeeka bint Ibrahim Al Khalifa, Consort of HM the King and President of the SCW, to establish the Women in Media Committee. She said the committee will help enhance cooperation with media bodies, highlight women's achievements locally and internationally, and promote a positive image of women, in line with the national plan for women's advancement and Bahrain's role in supporting and empowering women regionally and globally.
