Mensa welcomes youngest-ever member, Joseph Harris-Birtill, a toddler from the U.K. who "loves a challenge
A two-year-old British boy has become the youngest ever member of Mensa, the exclusive club that only welcomes people with an IQ of 132 or above, according to Guinness World Records. Joseph Harris-Birtill, born on November 23, 2021, was admitted to the organization at the age of just two years and 182 days.
"It soon became clear that he was an exceptional little being," Harris-Birtill's mother Rose told Guinness World Records. "He first rolled over at five weeks, said his first word at seven months, and read his first book out loud from cover to cover at one-and-three-quarter years."
"He's learning morse code, knows the Greek alphabet, and has recently gotten interested in the periodic table," his mother said. "His interests are vast and varied, and he is always keen to learn more and loves a challenge."
Harris-Birtill's parents — who both lecture at Scotland's prestigious University of St. Andrews — told Guinness they first decided to reach out to Mensa to find more support for Joseph after seeing how early he'd started reading.

"I searched online for any further support available, and saw that Mensa offers resources and membership for highly able children," Rose told the organization. "We hope that this accomplishment can give him a sense of pride when he is older – it's a very unusual accolade and the credit is all his!"
Harris-Birtill is 13 days younger than the youngest female member of Mensa was when she was admitted to the prestigious club. American Isla McNabb became the youngest member of Mensa in 2022 and held that overall title until Harris-Birtill came along.
The tike has also, by default, taken the title of Britain's youngest Mensa member, topping Teddy Hobbs who achieved that rank at the age of just four in 2023.
Rose, Harris-Birtill's mother, said she hoped sharing her son's story would help raise awareness about the unique needs of children like her son.
"It is a common misconception that everything is super easy for gifted children. But everyone needs appropriate stimulation and understanding throughout their lives, and highly able learners can sadly have their unique talents dimmed by the pressure to fit into environments that simply haven't been properly designed for them," she told Guinness World Records. "Joseph is fortunate enough to attend a brilliant nursery and has an excellent music teacher, and in Mensa we hope to provide him with a community of peers as a source of further support as his formidable intellect continues to grow and develop."

Writer and comedian of hit BBC 90s show comes up north as part of tour
Rob Newman, best known for the sketch show The Mary Whitehouse Experience will be coming up north as part of a 2025/26 tour. Rob, who paired with David Baddiel for the hit comedy series will be taking to the stage in Chorley and The Lowry Theatre. The BBC 2 show won both Rob and David a legion of fans, and the duo were the first comedians to play and sell out the 12,000-seat Wembley Arena in London in 1993. They starred alongside Steve Punt and Hugh Dennis in The Mary Whitehouse Experience in the 1990s, before getting their own show, Newman and Baddiel in Pieces. Rob then pursued a literary career before returning to comedy with an added political edge. His blend of lecture and stand-up has seen him cover topics such as evolution, the war on terror and the history of oil. Rob will be embarking on his Where the Wild Things Were tour this year, heading to Chorley Theatre on January 17 and The Lowry on Sunday, February 1. The promo material for the show states: "From Rob Newman comes a barnstorming new stand-up show about where we are and where we're going. From future cities and philistine film directors to Dorothy Parker's Multiverse Diaries. Throw in Pythagorean gangsters, intellectual bingo callers and a crazy character called Arlo - and the result is a hilarious tour-de force utterly unlike anything else you will ever see anywhere else!" For tickets are more information visit the theatre websites. Rob and David went their separate ways until the two were pictured together after Rob got back in touch via Twitter in 2017, after Rob requested tickets to see David's theatre show.

I Missed My Only Chance To Buy An ‘Oddworld: Abe's Oddysee' Action Figure
Abe action figure. I was browsing LinkedIn today, something I don't recommend anyone spend their precious time doing, and happened to come across a cool Kickstarter campaign for an Abe action figure. No, not presidential Honest Abe, and not Good Burger actor Abe Vigoda, but the brave Mudokon with a heart of gold, plucked directly from long-running puzzle-platforming franchise Oddworld—the Abe, in my retro gaming book. The only trouble is…. the campaign ended on May 29, so now I can't buy what UK-based Gametee was selling: An officially licensed, 5-inch tall, 10-point articulated, hand-painted Abe action figure. What a complete bummer, although I'm honestly happy for the 1,686 backers who helped fully fund the project, which soared way over the original £14,000 goal with an impressive total £112,959 (roughly $152,000 USD). I'm honestly surprised it's taken this long for an official Oddworld toy to make it to market, because the IP's world and characters are so stunningly rich and fleshed out and, let's admit it, utterly bizarre. It's all perfect for plastic, really. I'm thinking back to the '90s and I can't recall any mention of Oddworld action figures being in the works, although I wouldn't be surprised if there were talks at some point. Crash Bandicoot eventually got a set of toys, as did Primal Rage, Mortal Kombat and Street Fighter. No Abe, though, until now. As disappointed as I am that I missed this Kickstarter opportunity, it does give me hope that maybe Oddworld Inhabitants and Gametee will partner again to expand on what could potentially be a whole series of creatures. The Oddworld universe is simply begging for this kind of collectible tribute, and truly, there's no shortage of wacky critters to immortalize. An Elum would be rad, which is a sort of alien steed that Abe rides around like a two-legged horse. A Slig toy would be a must as well, since they're patrolling everywhere inside the games. I'd especially love a Scrab or a Paramite, and I'm even imagining some detailed dioramas in which to display the figures. Or maybe Mighty Max-style playsets with miniature Mudokons, and neon lights! I'm getting carried away, obviously, but it's fun to think about. Abe's Oddysee released way back in 1997, which seems like eons ago, but seeing this sort of Kickstarter come to fruition really brought back a lot of great gaming memories. The games were hard, no doubt, but I forgave the steep difficulty curve, simply because the sheer creativity on display was through the roof. I'll eternally have a soft spot for Abe and his strange adventures, especially those incredible CG cutscenes that made owning a legacy PlayStation feel like magic. Oh, and we can't forget the farts. So many digital farts.
