Steelers' New Corner Brings Health Concerns
In an attempt to improve the roster, Pittsburgh Steelers general manager Omar Khan has made a number of moves this offseason.

Khan attempted to upgrade the secondary earlier this offseason with a trade for Philadelphia Eagles cornerback Darius Slay Jr.
Now, we find out he may have arrived with an injury concern.
NFL insider Adam Caplan appeared on FOX Sports Radio to discuss Slay's knee injury that dates back to 2023.
"As I'm told, one of his knees is a concern," Caplan said. "He actually had arthroscopic surgery on it late in 2023. He's got great length, and he was super fast coming out of Mississippi State. You have to wonder how well he can run. … You never know when a guy's going to lose it, and they could lose it in an instant."

Slay originally suffered the injury in Week 5 of 2023, causing him to miss the following week. After the condition lingered, he finally elected for arthroscopic surgery ahead of Week 15 and he missed the rest of the regular season.
He returned for the Eagles' Wild Card game against the Bucs before suffering a back injury.
During 2024, Slay dealt with a number of injuries, including a knee, a groin and an ankle sprain.
Injuries could be a part of why he told NBC Sports Philadelphia that he intends to retire after the 2025 season. Since then he was released by the Eagles and signed by the Steelers.

We'll see if he can stay healthy next season and if that has an impact on his decision to play again in 2026.

Kansas City Royals at Boston Red Sox odds, picks and predictions
The Kansas City Royals (56-57) face the Boston Red Sox (63-51) in the second game of a 3-game set Tuesday. First pitch from Fenway Park in Boston is set for 7:10 p.m. ET. Let's analyze BetMGM Sportsbook's MLB odds around the Royals vs. Red Sox odds and make our expert MLB picks and predictions for the best bets. Season series: Red Sox lead 3-1 The Royals dropped the opener 8-5 Monday. 1B Vinnie Pasquantino hit his 19th homer and 3B Maikel Garcia left the yard for his 11th homer. The Royals have dropped 2 of 3 to fall 4 games out of a Wild Card spot. They are still 5-3 over their last 8 contests. OF Roman Anthony was scratched from the game Monday with mid-back tightness. It didn't matter. The Red Sox pounded out 8 runs on 11 hits. OF Jarren Duran hit his 12th homer. The Sox have won 6 straight games to pull within 3 games of the AL East lead. They sit in the top Wild Card spot, 2 1/2 games up on the New York Yankees. Royals at Red Sox projected starters RHP Ryan Bergert vs. LHP Garrett Crochet Bergert (1-0, 2.78 ERA) makes his eighth start (12th career appearance). He has a 1.18 WHIP, 4.5 BB/9 and 8.6 K/9 over 35 2/3 innings. Crochet (12-4, 2.23 ERA) makes his 23rd start. He has a 1.09 WHIP, 2.4 BB/9 and 11.1 K/9 through 141 1/3 innings Win your fantasy baseball league with For decades, BHQ has been helping players just like you win! Royals at Red Sox odds Provided by BetMGM Sportsbook; access USA TODAY Sports Scores and Sports Betting Odds hub for a full list. Lines last updated at 2:05 p.m. ET. Royals at Red Sox picks and predictions Red Sox 5, Royals 2 Moneyline The Red Sox have the clear advantage with Crochet on the mound. He has been hittable, lately, though. He just managed to get around the traffic. Over his last 7 starts, these are his hits allow: 8, 8, 3, 9, 8, 3 and 6. His last start against KC in May, he allowed 7 hits and just 1 run. Crochet has thrown a lot of innings, and they pushed this start back a few days. So, his control may not be on point. The Red Sox should win, but we aren't paying -250 for it. Give me GARRETT CROCHET OVER 4.5 HITS ALLOWED (-150). Run line/Against the spread Over the course of Boston's 6-game winning streak, they've won 5 of them by 2+ runs. I don't love the price, but it makes sense. Take RED SOX -1.5 (-115). Over/Under It's expected to be 70 degrees with a 6-mph breeze coming in from right-center. The Royals are 6-4 O/U in their last 10, and the Red Sox are 4-5-1 O/U. We've had 2 Overs and 2 Unders in the series this year. It's my least-favorite selection because there isn't much margin for error, but LEAN UNDER 8 (-115). Play our free daily Pick'em Challenge and win! Play now! St. Louis Cardinals at San Diego Padres odds, picks and predictions
The St. Louis Cardinals (56-56) visit the San Diego Padres (61-50) Sunday in the finale of their 3-game series. First pitch from Petco Park is at 4:10 p.m. ET. Let's analyze BetMGM Sportsbook's MLB odds around the Cardinals vs. Padres odds and make our expert MLB picks and predictions for the best bets. Season series: Tied 3-3 The Cardinals are in fourth place in the NL Central, 11 games behind the division-leading Milwaukee Brewers and 5 1/2 games out of a Wild Card spot. They have lost 5 of their last 7 games, but did even this series with the Padres with an 8-5 win on Saturday after a 4-1 loss Friday. They overcame a 4-0 deficit by scoring 4 runs in the fourth inning and 2 more in the fifth to take the lead. C Pedro Pages' 3-run homer tied the game and SS Masyn Wynn hit a 2-run double to give the Cardinals the lead in the fifth. The Padres are 3 games behind the LA Dodgers for the NL West lead, and currently in the third Wild Card spot. They had a 6-game winning streak snapped with the loss on Saturday. SP Randy Vasquez took the loss, allowing 5 runs on 8 hits, striking out 3 in 4 innings. Cardinals at Padres projected starters RHP Andre Pallante vs. RHP Dylan Cease Pallante (6-7, 4.62 ERA) makes his 22nd start. He has a 1.31 WHIP, 2.8 BB/9 and 5.8 K/9 through 117 innings. Cease (3-10, 4.79 ERA) makes his 23rd start. He has a 1.34 WHIP, 3.6 BB/9 and 11.6 K/9 through 118 1/3 innings. Cardinals at Padres odds Provided by BetMGM Sportsbook; access USA TODAY Sports Scores and Sports Betting Odds hub for a full list. Lines last updated at 10:53 a.m. ET. Cardinals at Padres picks and predictions Padres 6, Cardinals 4 Moneyline The Cardinals are 24-32 on the road and 28-33 against teams above .500, like the Padres. They have lost 5 of Pallante's last 6 starts, and prior to his last start, he had allowed 5-plus runs his previous 3 outings. The Padres are 35-19 at Petco Park and have won 7 of their last 9 home games. They have not lost a home series since dropping 2 of 3 games to the Dodgers June 6-11. But you get better value from the run line than the ML. PASS. Run line/Against the spread The Cardinals are 23-15 ATS as road underdogs, but their last 10 losses have all been by 2 or more runs. Seven of the Padres' last 9 wins have been by 2 or more runs. They are 11-1 ATS in their last 12 wins. BET PADRES -1.5 (+120). Over/Under Half of the 6 meetings this season have had totals higher than 8 and the other half below it. Six of Cease's last 9 starts have reached at least 8 total runs. BET OVER 8 (-120). Steelers Hit With Unfortunate Will Howard Injury News on Tuesday
Based on facts, either observed and verified firsthand by the reporter, or reported and verified from knowledgeable sources. Newsweek AI is in beta. Translations may contain inaccuracies—please refer to the original content. The Pittsburgh Steelers' quarterback depth took a serious hit on Tuesday after one of its four signal-callers went down with a serious injury. With Aaron Rodgers taking the starter's reps and Mason Rudolph firmly penciled in as the No. 2, Ohio State rookie Will Howard and fourth-year QB Skylar Thompson were set to battle it out for the No. 3 job. However, that competition got a little more cut-and-dry on Tuesday after it NFL Network's Ian Rapoport revealed Howard had suffered a fracture in his throwing hand, which will sideline him for at least three weeks, if not longer. "#Steelers rookie QB Will Howard, who banged his throwing hand in practice, suffered a fractured small bone in his hand, sources say," Rapoport wrote on X. "He's having additional tests, but it's likely no surgery is required. He's expected to miss at least 3 weeks, but more info coming." It's not known when Howard's injury occurred, but head coach Mike Tomlin told reporters he believes it happened on a routine play. "I think [Howard's injury] came on an exchange from center, but I didn't have eyes on it. It was his right hand," Tomlin said, via the team's official website. Will Howard #18 of the Pittsburgh Steelers in action during Minicamp at UPMC Rooney Sports Complex on June 10, 2025 in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. Justin K. Aller/Getty Images Howard's injury will keep him out until at least Aug. 27, meaning he would miss all three of Pittsburgh's preseason games against the Jacksonville Jaguars (Aug. 9), Tampa Bay Buccaneers (Aug. 16), and Carolina Panthers (Aug. 21). "Will Howard has been impressing at camp, but now out the rest of the preseason," Rapoport added. "More reps for Mason Rudolph and added opportunity for Skylar Thompson." Howard's injury couldn't have come at a worse time. The 23-year-old signal-caller, who threw for 4,010 yards, 35 touchdowns and 10 interceptions last season while leading Ohio State to its first national championship in a decade, has made a mark on many of the Steelers coaches during training camp so far, and he's impressed his teammates with his work ethic and how he's carried himself. More NFL: Chargers' Surprise Roster Move Reunites Justin Herbert With Pro Bowl Weapon "I've been impressed with Will," Steelers offensive coordinator Arthur Smith said, via Steelers Nation. "You saw it on film him and you get to know him as a person. He's very mature from the neck up. He's as good as any young guy in terms of recall, huddle command." The Steelers open the regular season on the road against the New York Jets on Sept. 7. If Howard's recovery goes according to plan, he could dress for that game provided he experiences no other setbacks.
