Miami play out six-goal nail-biter with San Jose in Messi's Bay Area debut
Allende scored once in the first half and then tied the game in the 52nd minute on Wednesday night when he tapped in a pass Baltasar Rodríguez on a play that Messi helped set up.
Maximiliano Falcon also scored for Miami, which has allowed at least three goals in three of the last four games.
Cristian Arango, Beau Leroux and Ian Harkes scored for the Earthquakes, who are unbeaten in their last three games.
Messi had a chance late for the game-winner but was stopped from in close in stoppage time in the second half by Daniel De Sousa Britto.
Messi's debut here was played in front of a sellout crowd of 18,000 with fans lined up hours before the game for the opportunity to see the Miami star in person. His entire Bay Area stay was turned into a multiday event with a block party held on Tuesday night and fans gathering outside of Miami's team hotel excited just to get a wave from the balcony by Messi.
Messi had a few good opportunities in the first half, barely missing wide left after getting a pass in the box in transition and then missing wide again on a free kick from just outside the box in the closing seconds of the half.
The game got off to an exciting start with Miami scoring about 35 seconds into the game following a corner kick when Falcon headed in a crosser from Jordi Alba.
The Earthquakes quickly responded in the third minute with Arango converting on a pass from Cristian Espinoza about 2:05 into the game, marking just the fifth time in MLS history that both teams scored in the first three minutes of a game, according to the Elias Sports Bureau.
The teams traded goals later in the half with Leroux giving San Jose the lead in the 37th minute and Allende answering about seven minutes later. The Earthquakes took a 3-2 lead at the half when Harkes scored with a left-footed shot from outside the box on an assist from Leroux in injury time.

Sprinter Sha'Carri Richardson has addressed her recent domestic violence arrest in a video on social media and issued an apology to her boyfriend Christian Coleman. She was booked into South Correctional Entity in Des Moines, Washington, for more than 18 hours. Her arrest was days before she ran the 100 metres at the US championships in Eugene, Oregon. In the video, Richardson said she's practising 'self-reflection' and refuses 'to run away but face everything that comes to me head on'. According to the police report, an officer at the airport was notified by a Transportation Security Administration supervisor of a disturbance between Richardson and her boyfriend, Coleman, the 2019 world 100-metre champion. The officer reviewed camera footage and observed Richardson reach out with her left arm and grab Coleman's backpack and yank it away. Richardson then appeared to get in Coleman's way, with Coleman trying to step around her. Coleman was shoved into a wall. Later in the report, it said Richardson appeared to throw an item at Coleman, with the TSA indicating it may have been headphones. The officer said in the report: 'I was told Coleman did not want to participate any further in the investigation and declined to be a victim.' A message was left with Coleman from The Associated Press. Richardson wrote that Coleman 'came into my life & gave me more than a relationship but a greater understanding of unconditional love from what I've experienced in my past'. She won the 100 at the 2023 world championships in Budapest and finished with the silver at the Paris Games last summer. She also helped the 4×100 relay team to an Olympic gold. She didn't compete during the Tokyo Olympics in 2021, following a positive marijuana test at the US Olympic trials.

Real Madrid rejects idea of Barcelona playing in Messi's Miami
Real Madrid has said that it 'firmly rejects' having a regular-season Spanish league game played in the United States and warned of 'a turning point in the world of football'. Villarreal, in contrast, is promising free travel and tickets for season-ticket holders if its match against Barcelona in Miami is approved, in what would be a first for the league. The 17th-round match in La Liga would be played at Hard Rock Stadium, the home of Barca legend Lionel Messi's Inter Miami. Madrid said on Tuesday that it has taken action to keep the December 20 match from happening in the US, claiming it would hurt the 'integrity of the competition' and the 'legitimacy of the results'. 'The measure, which was taken without prior information or consultation of the clubs participating in the competition, infringes the essential principle of territorial reciprocity, which applies in two-legged league competitions (one match at home and the other at the home of the opposing team), upsetting the competitive balance and giving an undue sporting advantage to the applicant clubs,' Madrid said. The club said the match would set 'an unacceptable precedent that opens the door to exceptions based on non-sporting interests, clearly affecting sporting integrity and risking the adulteration of the competition'. 'If this proposal were to be carried out, its consequences would be so serious that it would be a turning point in the world of football,' Madrid said. The Europe-wide fan group Football Supporters Europe (FSE) said it was 'liaising' with members, soccer stakeholders, affected groups and partner organisations to 'collectively resist the latest threat to the very nature of football'. 'We are following the broader impact on football with the utmost concern,' the group said. 'Moving games from their domestic territories strikes at the heart of the relationship between fans and their teams, breaking vital links between clubs and their communities.' The group also criticised a similar move by the Italian league to play a match abroad. Villarreal hoping to expand its brand in US Villarreal earlier on Tuesday said that its season ticket-holders can travel for free and receive free tickets for the match. 'It would greatly help us expand our brand in a key market like the United States.'
