Rivals author Jilly Cooper weighs in on intimacy coordinators after Danny Dyer says new series has so many sex scenes it 'hired every coach in the UK'
Rivals author Jilly Cooper has weighed in on intimacy coordinators being used for the Disney+ show following Danny Dyer 's recent comments.
The actor said there is so much bonking in Rivals 2 – which is currently filming - that they have hired every intimacy coach in the UK.
But Jilly - who wrote the 1988 novel - is bemused by the growth of the on-set sex-scene coach.
She told The Times: 'In my day when people were acting they just used to jump on each other and roll around without having anyone telling them what to do,'
'I suppose the world's changed, hasn't it?'

Had she been an actress rather than author, Jilly said she would not have been comfortable with having an intimacy co-ordinator choreographing her sex scenes.
She added: 'I'd be very embarrassed. I wouldn't like it myself - but then no one has any fun any more, do they?'
Her comments come after Danny says there is so much bonking in Rivals 2 – which is currently filming - that they have hired every intimacy coach in the UK.
Dyer, who plays Freddie Jones in the show, which also stars David Tennant, Emily Attack and Alex Hassell, said: 'We are doing 12 episodes of Rivals and we are filming until March next year.
'It is brilliant but it is a mad thing to do a sex scene.
'If you think about it you are legally allowed to tongue someone else. It is part of your job. Depending on your partner. It is OK if you fancy it, I am not going to lie.'
He added: 'On Rivals there are a lot of intimacy coaches. I think we used every intimacy coach in the land.'
In the smash hit Disney + show, based on the novel by Jilly, Dyer played self-made businessman Freddie Jones who goes into business with Rupert Campbell-Black, played by Alex Hassell and Declan O'Hara played by Aidan Turner.
In the show Jones falls in love with romance author Lizzie Vereker, played by actress Katherine Parkinson. The initial run was eight episodes but Disney + have asked for more this time around.
Dyer's performance as Jones has been hailed as bringing heart to the frothy, pulpy show, which has led to a reassessment of him as an actor, following his long-running stint in EastEnders.
He was awarded a Bafta last month for his performance in Mr Bigstuff. He told Esquire magazine: 'People saw me in a different light[in Rivals], and it came out just after Mr. Bigstuff, which, for once, shows a bit of versatility, because Lee is so different to Freddie.
'I've made a lot mistakes over the years. I've said yes to a lot of jobs I probably shouldn't have, probably because I was driven by the dollar – I had bills to pay and kids in private schools.
'Now, I'm at a stage where I have loads of offers that I've got the power to say no to. I think I'll be defined by what I say no to, and it's really exciting for me.'
On stage at the Baftas where he won the award to Best Male Performance in a Comedy he said: 'What a touch! Comedy performance. I thought my acting was so bad it was funny. I want to thank Sky for giving our show a shot. F***ing hell, I'm choked up.
'I got to dedicate this to (Mr Bigstuff writer) Ryan Sampson. One of the greatest things to come out of Rotherham. Which is not saying much.
'But one of the best actors this country's ever produced, I'm telling you. Never done the same thing twice. Which is not something I can say. He wrote this part for me, so you know... I'm getting choked up again, f**k me.'

Grealish at his best, before his £100million move from Aston Villa to Manchester City in 2021, was an old-school flair player and a darling of the terraces for his dribbling ability, as well as being a style icon and heart-throb. Now his four-year spell at the Etihad is coming to an end, with Grealish axed from City's 27-man squad for the Club World Cup which starts in the US this weekend. Grealish is looking for a new club this summer, while City have already signed eight players for a total of £282MILLION in 2025. And it is a wonder why City boss Guardiola ever agreed to lavishing what was then a British record transfer fee on a player who was never likely to fit in. Guardiola is a tactical genius but he likes his players to be as obsessive about football as he is. He demands workaholics. And while Grealish is not a playboy waster, he lives by the old adage 'all work and no play makes Jack a dull boy'. City have usually played in a delicious eye-candy style under Pep, but his philosophy is all about teamwork, about pass-and-move, rather than the type of individual flair for which Grealish was renowned. Topless in the rain It is a testimony to Grealish's lovable personality that when Scotland's Stephen O'Donnell successfully marked him during a 0-0 draw with England at Wembley in the Euros of 2021, he killed him with kindness rather than kicking or insulting the Three Lions man. Southgate believed, correctly, that Grealish is a player who thrives on being the main man in any team — a playmaker, who demands a lot of the ball, a risk-taker at his best when he can showcase his devilment. That was never going to be the case with England, who are blessed with so much talent in wide and attacking midfield positions — nor at Guardiola's City. England's new manager Thomas Tuchel has said: 'I love Jack. 'I love everything about him. 'I love his personality, I love his quality. 'The guy has courage.' And yet Tuchel hasn't picked Grealish in either of the two squads he has named because of his severe lack of game time at City. Last season, Grealish started just seven Premier League games — and only one after Tuchel started the England job in January. He managed just one goal and one assist in the entire league campaign. Grealish has told Tuchel he is 'not a stop-start player', that he craves rhythm — and Guardiola simply hasn't allowed that to happen during the past two seasons. In January, Guardiola said he wanted to see 'the Jack Grealish that won the Treble'. Grealish played a major role when City swept the board by winning the Premier League, Champions League and FA Cup in 2023 — even though his wings had been clipped with less emphasis on dribbling and taking on opponents. But since the iconic image of the boozed-up Brummie standing topless in the piddling rain during City's celebratory bus parade two years ago, Grealish's fortunes have plummeted. Seasons of torment He turns 30 in December but retains his boyish looks and a child-like love of life. His interviews, while on England duty, are great theatre — he is funny, engaging and honest. But despite his charismatic nature, there is also a vulnerability. During one interview, when Grealish's lifestyle had been under the spotlight, the player told the assembled media: 'I just want youse all to like me.' In truth, it is difficult to spend any time in Grealish's company and not like him. Having been assaulted on the pitch by a Birmingham City fan — who was jailed for the incident — during a derby match against Villa, Grealish would have more reason than most to keep his distance from supporters. Yet in an era of roped-off, VIP, multi-millionaire footballers, he is one of the most accessible of big-name players. His down-to-earth qualities were recently displayed when he visited a social club in Wearside in March and stuck £500 behind the bar for fellow drinkers. Whoever does sign Grealish will be recruiting a gem of a player, desperate to express himself after two seasons of torment under Guardiola. Grealish is not a one-dimensional character. He's Jack the Lad and he's Gentleman Jack, too. He is a keen amateur DJ and a Gucci model — which is one of several lucrative commercial deals, ranging from Bose audio equipment to Hellmann's mayonnaise. And he is also an ambassador for Special Olympics GB. His sister Hollie has cerebral palsy and he frequently interacts with disabled people in person and with video messages. His partner Sasha Attwood is a model — like many a Premier League Wag — but the couple are childhood sweethearts who met at school in Solihull. Their first child, Mila, was born in September. Indeed, over the past year or two you would have been more likely to hear about Grealish carrying out a commercial or charitable appearance than playing a game of football. Hopefully that will change this summer. Despite Grealish having two years left on his City contract, Guardiola is happy for him to leave, either on a permanent deal for around £30million to £40million, or on a loan. Everton, who are moving into a swish new stadium next season, are among the leaders in the race to sign him, along with German club Bayer Leverkusen — managed by former Manchester United boss Erik ten Hag. Whoever does sign Grealish will be recruiting a gem of a player, desperate to express himself after two seasons of torment under Guardiola. EXCLUSIVE Britain's Got Talent star who shot to fame years ago after a VERY emotional moment on stage has quit his day job to take on another massive feat
A former Britain's Got Talent star singer has quit his day job to walk to the Alps wearing ski boots. Reuben Gray was catapulted to fame in 2017 aged just 16, after a clip of his emotional audition went viral, racking up more than 38million views. The video shows audience members in tears as Reuben's father, who had told him he couldn't attend due to work abroad, unexpectedly appears in the crowd. Moments later, the teenager performs an original song he wrote about his girlfriend, earning a standing ovation from all four judges. Now, aged 24, Reuben is back in the spotlight for a very different reason. Reuben along with fellow Devon native and Exeter University alumnus Matt Brinkley, 24, have left behind the security of a nine-to-five to take on a grueling 801-mile trek from London to Val Thorens for charity. It's a challenge that would test even elite athletes - and they've raised the bar even higher by committing to do it wearing notoriously uncomfortable footwear. The duo hope to raise £35,000 for two organisations: Macmillan Cancer Support, which helps people living with cancer, and Snow Camp, which supports young people through snow sports. They're also using the journey to promote King of the Hill, their new app designed to make planning adventure trips simple. Rueben, who quit music to focus on the project, told MailOnline he expects to be in 'agony' from day one of the 45-day journey and that medical professionals have warned him he could sustain serious injuries. 'My cousin's a doctor, and he said we have a possibility of breaking our legs or having shin splints, we have a possibility of a hairline fracture, that sort of stuff on our on our legs. We have a possibility of ending up with sort of gangrene', he said. But, the duo have a point to prove and are determined to demonstrate how ordinary people can achieve extraordinary things. 'It's about smiling through the pain and about having a good time. Even though it might suck I'm still doing it with my best friend. I'm doing it for something bigger than just myself only. 'We're only a small part in what these amazing charities do. And we're just trying to help that', Rueben said. He added: 'Loads of people do these crazy challenges. But the difference with them is they are all professional athletes, so they're all at that level where they're so fit, they're it's obvious they're going to be able to complete it. 'And so Matt and I decided to do exactly what our app's about, which is about getting normal people to do loads of fun stuff together.' Rueben also revealed how the pair have done very little training and the training they have doing has left them with 'bleeding, blistered' feet. 'It's been very busy, so it's been difficult to do as much training as we want to do. And we're very scared on that sense. But we've walked around in ski boots and our feet were blistered and bleeding', Rueben said. And, it isn't only injuries the pair have to worry about as just two days before they set off on June 13, a spanner was thrown into the works. Their driver, who was meant to accompany them and carry essential supplies, pulled out of the project. This means the pair will now have to camp in tents rather than sleep in a van like they had initially planned. 'We're going to be staying in tents for 45 days. It's going to be like, as tough as it gets. But I think Matt and myself are the sort of guys that will just really suck up anything. Rueben revealed the pair have done very little training and have been left with bleeding, blistered feet after the preparation they have done 'Because we think that it's worth it and it's gonna be great,' Rueben added. The walk will take the duo from Oxford Circus in Central London through Kent to Dover, across to Dunkirk (by ferry) through Belgium, Luxembourg, France, and Switzerland – ending in Val Thorens, at an altitude of 2,300m. Both Reuben and Matt had day jobs before they began working on their app – with Matt working in medical advertising and Reuben working to support business start-ups. The pair - who have been best friends since meeting on a surf trip seven years ago –formulated a plan for the walk at the pub one evening. But, it was something Reuben had been thinking about for years after being inspired by his late Godfather, Jerry Chilvers' who sadly died from cancer in 2018. 'My Godfather put me on a ski lift when I was very little, and he said, "Hey, man, we're going to do a race." 'And I went, "Okay, cool. What's the race called?," Reuben recounted. 'He said, "The race is called the King of the Hill race." And I thought that sounded like one of the coolest things ever.' 'So from then on, we always did. And I did it with my friends on any sort of thing where there was ever a race involved. We called it the King of the Hill,' Reuben added.
