Currently overseas as part of Team Canada's bench staff at the world championship tournament, Huska was thrilled to learn that his son Luke was selected by the Swift Current Broncos in the 2025 WHL Prospects Draft.

Luke Huska, who turns 15 in July, skated this winter with the U-15 prep squad at Edge School. He notched 14 goals and 41 points in 34 games.

The Broncos believe this left-shot centre has a bright future ahead. They called his name at No. 44 overall in Thursday's second round.

Luke is sometimes spotted around Saddledome, where his dad has been on the Flames coaching staff for the past seven seasons. Perhaps, he'll someday skate onto that same sheet for a WHL clash with the Calgary Hitmen.

'I really like Luke,' Broncos general manager Chad Leslie said. 'I think if you take the name-bar off his jersey and you're just looking at the player … Certainly, his name had no bearing on why we took him.

'I really like Luke's individual sense and his ability to make plays. He sees the ice so well. He's such a high-percentage player. He has great habits. A lot of things happen off his stick. He's reliable defensively. He wants to be a player. His lack of physical strength is really dictating for him right now, which is really exciting for us.

'We feel the upside is huge and it's a great family. All he wants to do is be a player. He just is concerned about getting better, getting stronger, developing. And you can tell he's a coach's kid by how he plays with his habits.'

Luke's dad, before he transitioned to coaching, had a heck of a run as a WHL player, helping the Kamloops Blazers to three Memorial Cup crowns in a four-year span from 1992-95. His teammates during that stellar stretch included Shane Doan, Jarome Iginla, Scott Niedermayer and Darcy Tucker.

Family of Blue Bomber great Milt Stegall mourns death of son, Chase
The family of CFL Hall of Famer Milt Stegall has issued a statement on the sudden death of his 20-year-old son, Chase. Chase Stegall died Monday morning at his residence at DePaul University in Chicago, where he was a sophomore with the school's soccer team. He was the eldest son of Milt and Darlene, and brother to Collin. "It is with profound sadness that we announce the sudden passing of our beloved son and brother, Chase Hamilton Stegall. Chase lived a life filled with love, kindness, and talent, and his memory will be forever etched in our hearts," the statement says. "We are deeply touched by the outpouring of love and appreciation for Chase and the many gifts he shared throughout his life. Your heartfelt condolences and support mean more than words can express. "As a family, we ask for privacy as we grieve this deeply painful loss." No cause of death has been given. Chase was often seen around the Winnipeg Blue Bombers and their old Polo Park-area stadium in the mid-1990s until the mid-2000s. His dad, Milt, who retired from playing in 2009, was one of the most popular Bombers in team history. He played in blue and gold from 1995-98 before suiting up for the New Orleans Saints but tearing his ACL. He came back to the Bombers from 1999-2008 and put his stamp all over the CFL record books. He was named a division all-star eight times, a league all-star six times and the league's most outstanding player in 2002. He holds virtually every Bombers receiving record and is the CFL all-time leader in career touchdowns with 147. "Chase was a bright and talented young man with a promising future, and his loss is felt deeply across our entire Blue Bombers family," said a statement Monday from Blue Bombers president and CEO Wade Miller, whose career with the Bombers was overlapped by Stegall's. Tributes and condolences have also been expressed by the CFL, the league's TV broadcaster, TSN, the NHL's Winnipeg Jets, and dozens upon dozens of fans on social media. Milt Stegall has been a CFL analyst on TSN's studio panel since his retirement. No details about a memorial service for Chase have been announced. "In this time of grief, we take comfort in knowing how many lives he touched and we will continue to honour Chase's memory with the love and light he brought into the world," the Stegall family statement says.

Article content An anonymous bidder has paid $143,030 for the sweater that Darryl Sittler wore when he recorded 10 points in a Leafs victory against the Boston Bruins on Feb. 7, 1976. Article content Article content The sale was made via Los Angeles-based Grey Flannel Auctions. The starting bid in the online auction, which opened on May 12 and closed on June 1, was $10,000. A total of 29 bids were made. Article content Nearly 50 years after the historic performance, Sittler's 10 points remain a National Hockey League record for one game. That night at Maple Leafs Gardens, the Leafs captain had six goals and four assists as the Leafs shelled Bruins goalie Dave Reece in an 11-4 Toronto win. Article content Reece, who faced 40 shots that night, didn't play in an NHL game again. All 14 of his career games came during the 1975-76 season with the Bruins. Article content The previous record for most points in an NHL game was eight, done by Maurice Richard of the Montreal Canadiens during the 1944-45 season.
