Domen Prevc breaks world record with 254.5-meter ski jump
Prevc produced the huge jump – the equivalent length of close to two-and-a-half football fields – in the second round of the Ski Jumping World Cup event, which marked the end of the season.
It was a meter further than Austrian Stefan Kraft's previous record of 253.5 meters, set in March 2017, but wasn't enough for the 25-year-old to take the victory in front of 17,000 fans in Planica. That went to compatriot Anže Lanišek, who claimed his second win of the season with an overall score of 482.1 points to Prevc's 475.
'This is the sweetest story that even Hollywood directors would have difficulty imagining,' Prevc wrote on Instagram. 'Thank you, everyone, for creating this story and for the unforgettable season!'
Earlier this month, Prevc won the large hill world title in Trondheim, Austria, as well as a gold in the team event and silver in the mixed team.
Japan's Ryōyū Kobayashi jumped a distance of 291 meters on a specially-created natural ramp in northern Iceland last year, but the attempt didn't meet the conditions laid out by the International Ski and Snowboard Federation (FIS) so wasn't recognized as a world record.

Oliver Glasner Faces Questions as Liverpool Track Marc Guehi Transfer
Liverpool Eye Marc Guehi as Oliver Glasner Faces Transfer Questions Guehi's Future Sparks Liverpool Interest Liverpool's search for defensive reinforcements has once again placed Marc Guehi firmly in the spotlight. The Crystal Palace captain, who impressed in the Community Shield against Liverpool, continues to attract attention as the transfer window edges towards its close. With fewer than 12 months left on his contract, Palace face a decision that could shape not only their season but also Guehi's career trajectory. Arne Slot is believed to view Guehi as a crucial addition to his squad. Fresh from guiding Liverpool to a Premier League title in his first campaign, Slot wants depth and leadership across his back line. Guehi, composed on the ball and commanding without it, fits that profile. His availability has alerted several top clubs, but Liverpool appear most determined to make their move before the window shuts. Photo: IMAGO Oliver Glasner Balances Commitment and Uncertainty Crystal Palace manager Oliver Glasner has attempted to steady the narrative around his captain, insisting that Guehi remains fully engaged with the team. After the goalless draw with Chelsea, Glasner praised the defender's attitude. 'There's a lot of rumors about Eberechi and Marc Guehi, but I think everyone who watched the game saw they're 100% with this group, with this group and it's what we expect from our players that they give 100%,' he told Sky Sports. 'We rely on each other and they proved it in a brilliant way.' Guehi's presence in the starting eleven at Stamford Bridge seemed to underline that commitment, yet footage captured by Sky Sports painted a more complex picture. The cameras appeared to show the centre-back walking away from Glasner at full time, despite the Austrian repeatedly calling his name. Brief words were exchanged before Guehi disappeared down the tunnel, leaving questions over the harmony between player and coach. Photo IMAGO Liverpool's Defensive Planning Liverpool's interest in Guehi comes at a time when the club are reshaping their squad carefully. The signing of Giovanni Leoni for £26 million has already strengthened the defensive department, but Guehi represents a different level of experience and leadership. Reports from Merseyside suggest that negotiations are active and being treated as a separate matter from Leoni's arrival. Slot has already shown his ability to rejuvenate players and mould a side capable of challenging across competitions. Adding Guehi would offer both immediate impact and long-term stability, particularly with his leadership qualities. Liverpool supporters have grown increasingly vocal about the need for a defender of Guehi's calibre, particularly given the demands of another title defence. Photo by IMAGO Palace's Dilemma and Guehi's Next Step For Crystal Palace, the situation is fraught with risk. Allowing a player of Guehi's standing to run down his contract would represent a financial and strategic setback. Glasner, meanwhile, faces the challenge of keeping his squad united while speculation continues to swirl. The attention surrounding both Guehi and Eberechi Eze illustrates the calibre of talent Palace currently hold, but also the inevitability of interest from bigger clubs. Liverpool's pursuit of Guehi, coupled with Glasner's attempts to maintain stability, has created one of the most intriguing transfer narratives of the summer. Whether Palace cash in or gamble on retaining their captain for another season may depend on how far Liverpool are willing to push.

Peterborough Petes Sign Leon Kolarik; Import Roster Complete
The Peterborough Petes have finalized their import roster for the upcoming 2025-26 season. The club will have three brand new imports who will get their first taste of CHL action in just a few weeks. And interestingly enough, all three are eligible for the 2026 NHL Draft. On Aug. 7, the Petes organization announced the signing of Austrian forward Leon Kolarik to an OHL Standard Player Agreement. Peterborough drafted him in the second round (63rd overall) in the 2025 CHL Import Draft. He joins fellow European skaters Adam Novotny and Yanis Lutz, who both signed with the team back in July. 'We're very happy to be able to add Leon Kolarik to our team. Leon is a player who brings experience playing at the highest professional level in Austria. We believe that his game is a great fit for the OHL, and we look forward to having him join our group,' said Peterborough Petes GM Michael Oke via the team's press release. Kolarik, 17, spent the majority of last season playing in the AlpsHL, a league that is focused on developing young players featuring teams from Austria, Italy, Slovenia, and Croatia. In 36 games for the RB Hockey Juniors, he recorded 23 points (10 goals, 13 assists), finishing second on the team in scoring, while being one of the youngest players on the team. Adam Novotny, Projected Top Prospect In The 2026 NHL Draft, Signs With Peterborough Petes Last season, one of the OHL's top performers came from the 2024 CHL Import Draft. Ilya Protas was selected third overall by the Windsor Spitfires. He formed an unstoppable duo with Liam Greentree, scoring 50 goals and 124 points in the regular season. Like many of these young European players, Kolarik is well-traveled, having played in multiple leagues and several international tournaments. The 5-foot-11 forward led the EC Salzburg U20 organization in goals (8) and points (14) in the Austria U20 league playoffs, en route to a championship victory. Back home in Austria, his play stood out, and he earned seven games playing for EC Salzburg in the ICEHL, which is the top-tier league in Austria. He recorded one goal and two assists in those games and gained valuable experience playing against older competition. 'Having spent extensive time in Europe ahead of the Import Draft with Coach (Rob) Wilson, we had already identified Leon as a highly skilled and competitive player. We feel his skillset and drive will contribute well with our new look team, while we also work to continue his development ahead of the 2026 NHL Draft,' said Petes Director of Player Personnel and Assistant Coach Patrick O'Connor. Peterborough Petes Recruit Swiss Forward Yanis Lutz For The Upcoming Season The Peterborough Petes have signed a second import player this summer, leaving them with one remaining spot to recruit another European player for the 2025-26 season. In international competition last year, Kolarik suited up for Austria's team at the 2025 IIHF U20 Division 1 A World Championship. He recorded four assists in five games, winning a silver medal at the event and coming oh so close to helping his country earn promotion to the top U20 division. Additionally, the Wien, Austria, native was his country's top producer (7 points in 5 games) at the 2025 IIHF U18 Division 1 A World Championship. Unfortunately, that event ended in immense disappointment for him and his nation, as they finished last and were relegated to Division 1 B.
