Nothing will derail a promising MMA career like testing positive for a banned substance. It's worse when that substance is one that is almost never associated with a tainted supplement.

On Thursday, the UFC revealed Voievodkin had been issued and accepted a 24-month suspension from the Combat Sports Anti-Doping commission (CSAD) for violating the promotion's anti-doping policy. According to the UFC's release, Voievodkin tested positive for meldonium.
The drug is common in Eastern Europe, but it has been banned in combat sports and other athletics since 2016. Meldonium is banned because it provides a cardiovascular and endurance boost, offering an unfair advantage in high-intensity sports like MMA.
Voievodkin tested positive for the drug during an out-of-competition sample collection in October 2024 while he was in Lithuania. As a result of the two-year ban, the UFC decided to release Voievodkin.

Voievodkin looked like one of the brightest young heavyweights to come into the UFC in a while following his impressive first-round submission win over Bailey Schoenfelder in September 2024 on the Season 8 of Dana White Contender Series.
The 24-year-old Ukrainian whose pro record is a sparkling 7-0 with all his wins by first-round finish was seemingly set to make a mark in the UFC. If Voievodkin makes a mark in the sport anytime soon, it probably won't be with the UFC, and he'll have to wait at least two years to get back to action.
With his UFC contract terminated and a two-year suspension in effect, Voievodkin faces an uncertain future in professional mixed martial arts. The suspension prohibits him from competing in any CSAD-sanctioned events until November 10, 2026.
Rebuilding his career will require not only maintaining his physical conditioning during this hiatus but also restoring his reputation within the MMA community. Athletes returning from doping suspensions often face skepticism and increased scrutiny.
Voievodkin's path back to prominence will depend on his ability to demonstrate compliance with anti-doping regulations and to perform at a high level upon his return. Voievodkin is the second heavyweight the UFC has released in the past week following Marcos Rogerio de Lima.
The UFC is in London for a high-profile Fight Night card. Former UFC welterweight champion Leon Edwards returns to the Octagon to face Sean Brady. Here is a look at the entire card.

UFC 316 medical suspensions: Julianna Peña out indefinitely thanks to Kayla Harrison's torque

UFC 316 medical suspensions: Julianna Peña out indefinitely thanks to Kayla Harrison's torque UFC 316 is in the past, but numerous fighters remain on suspension until their bumps and bruises heal. The event took place Saturday at Prudential Center in Newark, N.J. and featured 13 fights including two title fights. On Tuesday, the New Jersey State Athletic Control Board (NJSACB) released a full list of fighters' injuries and their coinciding suspension. Fighters can return prior to the conclusion of their suspension if they are cleared by a medical professional. The most prominent suspension is former UFC women's bantamweight champion Julianna Peña who is out indefinitely until her left elbow and shoulder is cleared. The potential injuries were likely sustained during Kayla Harrison's kimura that won the title. Main event combatants Merab Dvalishvili and Sean O'Malley were not handed medical suspensions. Overall, 12 fighters were suspended, including five indefinitely. Check out a full list of UFC 316 medical suspensions below. Full UFC 316 medical suspensions include:

Ex-BMF Champ Threatens To ‘Hang Up My Gloves' Without UFC Title Shot

LAS VEGAS, NEVADA - SEPTEMBER 07: Matt Schnell leaves his gloves in the center of the Octagon after ... More a submission loss against Cody Durden in a bantamweight fight during the UFC Fight Night event at UFC APEX on September 07, 2024 in Las Vegas, Nevada. (Photo by Chris Unger/Zuffa LLC via Getty Images) Former BMF champion Justin Gaethje is waiting for his next booking from the UFC, and the former UFC interim lightweight champion expects his next fight to be his third shot at the undisputed UFC lightweight title. Gaethje (26-5) is coming off a March decision win over Rafael Fiziev on the UFC 313 fight card. After that win, which earned Gaethje his 14th UFC Fight Night Bonus, he said at the post-fight press conference, "I want to fight for the belt, obviously. That's a much different matchup than the one I just had. They tried to give me a doughnut. I took a bite, but I've got to get back to running if I'm going to fight [Islam] Makhachev." Makhachev remains the UFC lightweight champ on paper. However, the UFC has announced that he is moving up to welterweight and will likely meet UFC 170-pound champion Jack Della Maddalena in his first fight in that weight division. With that move in the cards, the UFC lightweight title will be up for grabs when the cage door shuts behind former featherweight champ Ilia Topuria and ex-lightweight champ Charles Oliveira at UFC 317. Gaethje is the No. 3 ranked fighter in the official UFC lightweight rankings. LAS VEGAS, NEVADA - MARCH 08: Justin Gaethje enters the Octagon in a lightweight fight during the ... More UFC 313 event at T-Mobile Arena on March 08, 2025 in Las Vegas, Nevada. (Photo by Jeff Bottari/Zuffa LLC) Gaethje's manager, Ali Abdelaziz, says his client is expecting a fight against the winner of the UFC 317 main event. "Justin Gaethje fights the winner," Abdelaziz told Submission Radio. "He's won three of his last four, he saved the UFC two times. They needed him, and he's there. The guy did so much for the sport. If anyone said he doesn't deserve it—he said, 'If I'm not going to fight for the title, I'm just going to hang up my gloves.'" "He's a very principled guy," Abdelaziz added. "I never—he feels strongly about this. He told me this yesterday. I was at the fight, he said, 'I'm not going to get a title shot. I feel disrespected. I love being a UFC fighter, I love the UFC, but I feel the UFC has to love me back.' And he doesn't feel the love right now. "But listen, at the end of the day, I think, this guy, they love him. I think they will give him what he wanted. But at the end of the day, we have to see what happens first between Charles and Ilia." Abdelaziz's statement echoed the words of UFC commentator Jon Anik, who claimed that Gaethje was unhappy not to get the call to fight for the vacant lightweight belt. "He was pissed," Anik said on The Anik & Florian Podcast. "He feels like certainly he was passed over in favor of Charles Oliveira for this opportunity against Ilia Topuria and I think what Justin Gaethje and his manager Ali Abdelaziz are looking for is just some sort of guarantee that they will be next because it's May 19 and the good news for this Topuria-Oliveira fight is that it's (expletive) June 28, it's less than six weeks away. So I don't think it's a crazy request for Justin, having done what he did against Rafael Fiziev, staying on the fight card, not fighting Dan Hooker, getting a win, distance from the UFC 300 result—and by the way, he fought at UFC 300 to help the UFC when he could have fought for the undisputed championship at that point in time—so I wouldn't be surprised if Gaethje gets some sort of guarantee that he's next for the Topuria-Oliveira winner. "But I can just tell you Justin was not thrilled." UFC 317 takes place at T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas on June 28. We will have more coverage of the event as fight night approaches.

Aljamain Sterling: Sean O'Malley won't get another 'layup' after UFC 316 loss

Aljamain Sterling: Sean O'Malley won't get another 'layup' after UFC 316 loss Aljamain Sterling thinks Sean O'Malley won't be getting any more favorable matchups from the UFC. O'Malley (18-3 MMA, 10-3 UFC) suffered his second straight loss to bantamweight champion Merab Dvalishvili (20-4 MMA, 13-2 UFC) when he was submitted in Saturday's UFC 316 main event. Sterling (24-5 MMA, 16-5 UFC) has been very vocal about O'Malley's road to the top, which saw him jump from a controversial win over Petr Yan at UFC 280, to a title fight against him at UFC 292. O'Malley knocked out Sterling to claim the bantamweight title. But now that O'Malley has lost to the champion two-straight times, Sterling says "The Suga Show" will have to face the top contenders at bantamweight, which may not be favorable stylistic matchups for him. "The UFC is probably not going to do him another layup favor in terms of stylistic matchup," Sterling said on his YouTube channel. "He's going to have to fight the toughest guys at this point. I'm curious to see what is he going to look like in his approach, what is he going to change, and will people look at his style now, and realize what I've been saying from before years ago: He's good, but there's a couple of things. His style is very good and catered to winning against guys who are stationary fighters, and they don't move a whole lot and predominantly not a grappler – and he looks like a world beater. "Now we've seen with some opposition and everyone kind of figuring him out, in the top five we know is a different ball game. Just like the Yan fight when he went from Pedro Munhoz to Yan. So, I'm curious to see how he's going to bounce back. Even if he loses the next one, will it be a good performance? Because if he stays the same, a lot of people realize he's good, but if you do X, Y and Z like Mario Bautista, those are tough fights for you. Kyler Phillips, those are tough fights for you. Merab, Umar (Nurmagomedov), those are tough fights. Even a Petr Yan, who's a little bit more stationary, but once he gets moving and starts putting those hands on you, it's a tougher fight for him." Sterling, who initially threw his own name in the hat, had a few suggestions of who the UFC could match O'Malley up with next. "The only person I can think of stylistically which would be a relatively favorable fight for him would be a guy like Patchy Mix," Sterling continued. "Maybe Aiemann Zahabi because Aiemann's kind of just in the pocket with you. Those would be some good stylistic fights for him. Give him Song Yadong."
