A seagull was kicked to death after "taking fish off a plate" outside a chippy in Gwynedd. RSPCA Cymru said they were investigating after the gull died on Marine Parade in Barmouth on Monday, August 4.
The charity said at around 1pm the gull was kicked after "he had taken fish off a plate and dropped it on the floor". After being kicked, the gull struck a parked car, before dying. The RSPCA are appealing for information to help identify the man accused of abusing the bird.
RSPCA animal rescue officer Julia Dalgleish said she had been making enquiries in the local area after the incident was reported to the charity.
She said: "This upsetting incident took place in a public place and would have been a very distressing incident to witness.
"We are looking for anyone with first-hand information, which could help our enquiries, to give us a call on our appeals line on 0300 123 8018, and quote 01596699.
"We'd also like to thank those who showed kindness towards this gull as we understand the bird's body was removed away from onlookers.
"Sadly, many people have an unfavourable opinion of gulls - but these are intelligent animals who form strong social bonds with each other, and deserve to be treated with respect.
"We would also like to remind people that gulls and their nests are protected under the Wildlife and Countryside Act 1981.
"It is illegal to do anything that causes suffering to gulls, or that damages or destroys active nests."
The RSPCA is also seeking assistance in locating a man who may be able to provide information that could aid their investigation.
The individual is described as being approximately five foot, 10 inches tall with curly hair, of medium build and was last seen wearing a black jacket.
Anyone with information is encouraged to contact the appeal line on 0300 123 8018.

Cat found in van travelling through Bristol and Cardiff
RSPCA Cymru is now appealing for information to help reunite the black-and-white male cat with its owner. The cat, who is said to be friendly, but has not been microchipped, was found on Friday, August 8, by a van driver who had travelled through the Bristol area and Cardiff that day. He was taken to the RSPCA Newport Animal Centre, but despite enquiries, the charity has been unable to trace his owner. Sian Burton, RSPCA animal rescue officer, said: "This is quite the mystery. "Unfortunately the finder of the cat didn't leave a contact number so we've not been able to contact them further about this, so we really are struggling to find more information about where he came from. "We really would like to reunite him with his owners, who must be very worried that he has not come home." Staff at the Hartridge Road centre have affectionately named the cat Elio. The cat has been affectionately named Elio (Image: RSPCA) He is said to be doing well at the centre, but the RSPCA is keen to free up space for other animals in need, as it continues to prioritise cases of cruelty and neglect. Ms Burton said: "If you are able to help us identify this cat and track down his owners, please call our appeal line number on 0300 123 8018, quoting 01600165. "We would love to reunite him with his owners." The RSPCA is using the case to remind pet owners of the importance of microchipping, which greatly increases the chances of a lost animal being returned home. Pet owners are urged to register their pet's chip with a national database and update their contact details if they move or change phone number. More information on microchipping and animal welfare advice is available on the RSPCA's website. The charity has also launched its Summer Cruelty Appeal, calling on the public to help fund its work rescuing animals, providing treatment, and offering care to those in need. Donations can be made through the RSPCA website.

Death row killer gouges out both his own eyes and eats them in bid to avoid execution
Death row killer gouges out both his own eyes and eats them in bid to avoid execution Andre Thomas, 39, was sentenced to death in 2005 for the murders of his estranged wife and her two children. His execution was postponed after he gouged out his eyes The father removed the hearts of his kids (Image: Harold Democrat) A man sentenced to death for the brutal murder of his wife and children, in a horrific act of self-mutilation, gouged out both of his eyes and ate them in an attempt to avoid execution. Andre Thomas was handed the death sentence in 2005, but his execution was delayed after he removed his own eyeballs. He was discovered in his cell, covered in blood, prior to his court appearance in 2004, according to The San Diego Union-Tribune. In another shocking incident, Thomas gouged out his remaining eye and consumed it, leaving him completely blind. His legal team stated that he believed this act of self-harm would prevent the government from hearing his thoughts. The news comes as police hunt a killer on the run as family of 'horrific' Welsh murder victim say they are 'terrified'. The 39 year old is currently incarcerated in Texas for a triple murder to which he has confessed. He admitted to killing his estranged wife, Laura Christine Boren, their four year old son, and Boren's 13-month-old daughter. Thomas told authorities that he believed God had instructed him to commit the murders, claiming he thought his victims were demons. He also removed the hearts of both children, as reported by the Associated Press, reports the Mirror. Thomas gouged out his remaining eye and consumed it (Image: Texas Execution) Article continues below He was found guilty in 2005 and automatically received the death penalty. His execution is scheduled for 5 April 2023. Jason Clark, an agency spokesperson, confirmed: "Thomas said he pulled out his eye and subsequently ingested it." In March 2023, Judge Jim Fallon granted an order suspending Thomas' execution warrant, following a request from his legal team for extra time to assess his mental condition and determine whether he met the competency requirements for capital punishment. According to the Supreme Court, whilst the death penalty isn't prohibited for individuals with serious mental disorders, it mandates that a person must be deemed competent. Marie Levin, Thomas' solicitor, stated: "We are confident that when we present the evidence of Mr. Thomas's incompetence, the court will agree that executing him would violate the Constitution. Andre Thomas before and after each of his self-inflicted attacks (Image: AP) "Guiding this blind psychotic man to the gurney for execution offends our sense of humanity and serves no legitimate purpose." Levin described Thomas as "one of the most mentally ill prisoners in Texas history ... not competent to be executed, lacking a rational understanding of the state's reason for his execution." After consuming his first eyeball, Thomas received treatment at a medical facility before being moved to a prison psychiatric unit. His trial barrister, Bobbie Peterson-Cate, remarked that he would "finally be able to receive the mental health care that we had wanted and begged for from day 1." In March 2023, over 100 faith leaders and others issued a plea for mercy to halt his execution. However, J. Kerye Ashmore from the Grayson County District Attorney's Office, who prosecuted the case, stated they knew "nothing about the case" and had not read any reports or evaluations concerning his mental state.
