The members died following a head-on collision between their bus and a truck on their way home coming from the party's Youth Day rally in Umlazi, south of Durban on Monday.
The KwaZulu-Natal Department of Transport and Human Settlements has also revised the death toll from 12 to 10.
As previously reported, KwaZulu-Natal Human Settlements and Transport spokesperson Ndabezinhle Sibiya said that based on the report from the Road Traffic Inspectorate (RTI), after the head-on collision, the truck struck the side of the bus.
Sadly, a total of 10 passengers died and were taken to Vryheid mortuary, while ten passengers were seriously injured and were transported to various local hospitals.
Moreover, 33 passengers were slightly injured while three suffered moderate injuries, and two victims are in a critical condition. Notably, the truck and bus drivers survived and were also taken to hospital.
In a statement, the EFF said the 12 fighters must be remembered as heroes as they lost their lives following a show of support for the revolution they belonged to.
'These were committed fighters who had attended the rally to honour the courage of the youth of 1976 and to continue the struggle for economic freedom. They died in the line of duty, and their lives will never be forgotten.
'The process of identifying the deceased is ongoing and we are working with relevant authorities to ensure families are informed and supported,' the party said.

Duduzile Zuma wears 'terrorist' T-shirt to court over looting tweets
Duduzile Zuma – the daughter of MK Party founder Jacob Zuma – has branded herself a 'modern day terrorist' during her Durban High Court appearance over her July unrest tweets. The MP has been charged with incitement to commit terrorism and public violence. Her trial will begin on 10 November. In a bold move, Duduzile Zuma wore a T-shirt with the slogan 'modern day terrorist' to the Durban High Court over her controversial July 2021 tweets. The daughter of former president Jacob Zuma has been charged with incitement to commit terrorism and two counts of incitement to commit public violence. The trial is scheduled to take place from 10- 21 November. Posting pictures of herself in court on her Instagram account, a beaming Duduzile thanked her supporters. She posted: 'At the end of the day, I'm a good woman, no matter what people say. 'I'm not perfect by any means, but my heart is pure, and I love hard with everything I have.' Her court appearance comes days after she rallied her supporters to take action against anyone who threatened KwaZulu-Natal Police Commissioner Nhlanhla Mkhwanazi. In 2021, Duduzile Zuma-Sambudla was accused of encouraging the July unrest, where properties and stores around the country were looted, vandalised, and torched. During the period, over 70 people are reported to have died in violent confrontations. Duduzile Zuma Sambudla has made headlines over her questionable social media posts. Her July unrest tweets from 2021 have landed her in hot water. Images via TikTok: @duduzumasambudla The daughter of the former president retweeted several videos of the violence, which was a direct reaction to her father's incarceration on contempt-of-court charges shortly before. Four South Africans arrested over Home Affairs fire
Home Affairs Minister Leon Schreiber has confirmed the arrest of four suspects in connection with the fire that destroyed the Germiston Home Affairs office. The incident happened on Tuesday during a protest by Pharoe Park residents against eviction for unpaid rent. Amid the unrest, some protesters allegedly threw a petrol bomb into the first floor of the Home Affairs building, sparking a fire that spread from a neighbouring block of flats. Schreiber said Home Affairs had opened a criminal case and was working with the South African Police Service (SAPS) to ensure convictions. 'Home Affairs is collating evidence and will open criminal charges against the anarchists who set a block of flats on fire in Germiston, which then spread to the neighbouring Home Affairs office. It is nothing less than an attack on our social infrastructure and cannot stand,' he said. Police arrested two people on Tuesday and took two more into custody on Thursday. 'For those who jumped to conclusions designed to fuel another type of fire: all four are South Africans, who will be prosecuted because we are governed by law, not prejudice,' Schreiber added. The department has deployed mobile offices to continue providing services in the area. Let us know by leaving a comment below, or send a WhatsApp to 060 011 021 1. Fisherman swept off rocks in Port Alfred
The search is on for a 25-year-old fisherman who was washed away by waves into the Kowie River Mouth, in Port Alfred yesterday evening (13 August 2025). Various rescue services including the National Sea Rescue Institute (NSRI) and the South African Police Service's divers initiated a rescue mission after 8pm when alerted of the local fisherman losing his battle against the choppy waves. The local was seen fishing along the shoreline of the West Pier when he was swept of the rocks. He reportedly struggled to cling onto the rocks after falling into the water but the waves proved overwhelming. Craig Lambinon, NSRI spokesperson, said: 'The fisherman had been clinging onto the rocks in the water after being swept off rocks….then, reportedly appearing to lose his grip on the rocks, he was swept out to sea and disappeared.' According to Lambinon, an NSRI duty crew conducting a routine training session in the vicinity together with other rescue services, launched a rescue mission aboard the NSRI craft, Lotto Challenger and Rescue 11 Alpha. 'Despite an extensive sea and shoreline search, in and beyond the Kowie River Mouth, that included the setting off of illuminating parachute flares and deploying search lights, there remains no signs of the 25-year-old local man,' said Lambinon. Local police are investigating the matter. Meanwhile, police divers and other rescue crews are still searching for the missing fisherman. The NSRI expressed their compassion for the family of the young man during this nerve-wracking time. Let us know by leaving a comment below, or send a WhatsApp to 060 011 021 11.
