
Red Hat Enterprise Linux 10 brings AI & post-quantum security
Red Hat has launched Red Hat Enterprise Linux 10, aiming to address the needs of enterprises managing hybrid cloud environments and AI-driven workloads.
According to Red Hat, the new release is designed as a strategic foundation for enterprise IT, offering enhanced intelligence, robust security features, and a container-centred operating system environment to help organisations manage increased complexity and future technology shifts.
Red Hat Enterprise Linux 10 introduces Red Hat Enterprise Linux Lightspeed, which integrates generative AI directly within the platform. This feature is intended to provide users with context-aware guidance and actionable recommendations through a natural language interface. Drawing on decades of Red Hat Enterprise Linux expertise, Lightspeed assists IT professionals with troubleshooting and best practices for managing large and complex Linux environments.
To strengthen its security offering, Red Hat says Enterprise Linux 10 is the first enterprise Linux distribution to integrate Federal Information Processing Standards (FIPS) compliance for post-quantum cryptography. In anticipation of the long-term risks posed by quantum computing, Red Hat has incorporated quantum-resistant algorithms and post-quantum signature schemes to help defend against potential decryption of data harvested today and to meet future regulatory requirements.
The platform also introduces image mode, a container-native approach that enables the unified build, deployment, and management of operating systems and applications within a single workflow. Image mode seeks to minimise configuration drift and deliver consistent tools and processes across development and IT operations teams.
Red Hat Enterprise Linux 10 includes new capabilities through Red Hat Insights, such as image builder package recommendations, giving IT departments guidance on package configuration prior to deployment in production. Insights planning also provides a view into the platform's roadmap and lifecycle, designed to improve future planning for IT organisations.
The release further expands support for hybrid environments by offering pre-tuned and supported Red Hat Enterprise Linux images on AWS, Google Cloud, and Microsoft Azure. The new extensions repository facilitates secure access to community-supported software such as Podman Desktop. A developer preview for the RISC-V architecture in collaboration with SiFive is included, targeting early adoption and testing.
Additional security enhancements are provided with the forthcoming Red Hat Enterprise Linux Security Select Add-On, allowing users to request fixes for up to 10 specific Common Vulnerabilities and Exposures (CVEs) annually.

Industrial technology company ABB has collaborated with Red Hat on the new release. Stefan Basenach, Senior Vice President, Process Automation Technology at ABB, commented, "In collaboration with Red Hat, ABB is committed to extending operational consistency for industrial use cases across edge and hybrid cloud environments, transforming process automation and industrial controls for the future. Using image mode for Red Hat Enterprise Linux, ABB is able to simplify the operating system build process to streamline our development lifecycle and implement a standardised installation method. This results in faster product innovations and a more appliance-like workflow for deployments, so customers can spend less time in setup and focus more on putting ABB's technologies to use to generate business outcomes."
Ryan Caskey, Research Manager at IDC, observed the growing complexity for businesses using Linux. He said, "Due to evolving operational requirements, organisations can accumulate diverse Linux distributions, and the consistent maintenance of these heterogeneous environments can become increasingly challenging. Large-scale and intricate infrastructures, as well as teams that are routinely understaffed, underskilled and underfunded, present problems in need of solutions. Red Hat Enterprise Linux aims to establish a robust, foundational layer for both current and future IT strategic initiatives."
Anish Bhatt, Software Architect at Salesforce, discussed the practical benefits of the new image mode. "In today's increasingly complex technology landscape, managing infrastructure at scale can be a challenge. Image mode allows consolidation of our pipelines and build processes, which are increasingly geared towards containerisation. It has also brought stability to our environments, reducing configuration drift and enabling a more consistent deployment experience. We can also upgrade between major and minor releases of Red Hat Enterprise Linux with less operational risk due to the ability to quickly roll back changes. Image mode is a meaningful step towards simplifying cloud-native application development and IT operations in a single pipeline."
Red Hat Enterprise Linux 10 is available to customers via the Red Hat Customer Portal and is also accessible to developers through Red Hat's Developer programmes.

Elastic & AWS partner to enable secure generative AI apps
Elastic has entered into a five-year strategic collaboration agreement with Amazon Web Services (AWS) to support organisations in building secure, generative AI-powered applications with greater speed and reduced complexity. The agreement is focused on joint product integrations and go-to-market initiatives that aim to enable customers to transition into AI-native enterprises more efficiently. It brings together Elastic's Search AI Platform and AWS services, with a particular emphasis on facilitating work in highly regulated sectors such as the public sector and financial services. Under this agreement, the companies will invest in technical integrations, including support for Amazon Bedrock and Elastic Cloud Serverless, to help customers drive AI innovation. The collaboration is designed to allow customers to leverage generative AI features by making use of high-performing foundation models available through Amazon Bedrock. It also offers support for migrating Elasticsearch workloads from on-premise data centres to Elastic Cloud on AWS, ongoing cost efficiencies for users of Elastic Cloud Serverless, and enhanced agentic AI capabilities through work on Model Context Protocol (MCP) and agent-to-agent interoperability. Commenting on the collaboration, Ash Kulkarni, Chief Executive Officer at Elastic, said: "As the speed of generative AI adoption accelerates, search has become increasingly relevant. Our collaboration with AWS and integration with Amazon Bedrock brings the power of search directly to generative AI for a host of use cases, including cybersecurity and observability. The collaboration is already producing results for organisations such as Generis and BigID. The integration of Elastic's AI-powered solutions with AWS services includes features such as Elastic AI Assistant, Attack Discovery, Automatic Import, Automatic Migration, Automatic Troubleshoot, and AI Playground, all of which interact with Large Language Models through Amazon Bedrock. These integrations help customers to conduct root cause analysis more quickly, synthesise complex data signals, automate data onboarding, and simplify the migration process. Natural language and retrieval-augmented generation (RAG)-powered workflows are designed to enable teams to interact with their data more intuitively and support faster decision-making. Elastic's relationship with AWS has been recognised within the AWS Partner Network. In December 2024, Elastic was named AWS Global Generative AI Infrastructure and Data Partner of the Year, and it was among the first group of AWS software partners acknowledged with the AWS Generative AI Competency. The company has also received AWS competency designations for the government and education sectors earlier this year.

FICO & AWS expand AI decision platform via marketplace
FICO has signed a new strategic collaboration agreement with Amazon Web Services to expand the global reach of its decision management solutions. The agreement will see FICO and AWS increase their joint efforts to provide organisations worldwide with access to AI-driven, automated decision workflows on the FICO Platform, which operates on AWS. FICO plans to broaden its involvement in AWS partner programmes in order to help accelerate the adoption of its solutions among clients. Under the terms of the agreement, FICO solutions will be made available through AWS Marketplace Private Offers, allowing customers to find, test, buy, and deploy software that runs on AWS. AWS Marketplace offers a digital catalogue of software listings from independent vendors. The first FICO solution now available in AWS Marketplace is FICO Decision Modeler, a decision management system designed to enhance flexibility, usability, and decision accuracy. Decision Modeler forms a core component of FICO Platform. Alexandre Graff, Vice President of Global Partners & Alliances at FICO, explained the scope of the collaboration: "Customers and partners worldwide benefit from our solutions powered by AWS. We also work collaboratively on solution development, for example through the AWS Generative AI Innovation Center, where we are developing agentic AI capabilities within FICO Platform. And the collaboration is a two-way street; Amazon has an enterprise license for our FICO Xpress optimization suite, which is used for multiple purposes including within Amazon Connect. This is a multi-faceted collaboration." Several financial institutions are already utilising FICO Platform on AWS. Westpac NZ, one of New Zealand's largest retail banks, has reported a shift in approach with the adoption of these systems. Regan Goble, Risk Analytics Senior Manager at Westpac NZ, said: "With FICO Platform, which supports transformation at scale on AWS, we've been able to shift from focusing on individual decisions we make on a customer's account, to thinking strategically about how we manage customers across all of their accounts and throughout their lifetime with the bank." Portworx has introduced Portworx for KubeVirt, aiming to provide a software-defined storage solution tailored for virtual machine (VM) workloads running on Kubernetes with Red Hat OpenShift Virtualization Engine.
